Dakota The long winter began to thaw by the time the workers finished the big house and the wall. Though the group of settlers made makeshift shelter out of tarps, brush, and loose stone—in addition to mended tents—it was a giant relief to finally move in. To sleep in a real bed instead of a mass of dirty pillows and blankets was Dakota’s favorite change. All in all, though, the achievement improved the lives of everyone among them.
