Chapter 20
Yuuki remained in various states of unconsciousness for the three hours or so that they rode without making camp. The group stopped to eat, whereupon Dakota artfully changed the woman’s outer shirt—careful not to expose any aspect of her, except perhaps a little skin on her stomach. He quickly covered the weakened form in a large flannel shirt and then applied a blanket on top of that. As she began to wake in confusion, he made her drink some water.
After an hour of keeping the water down, Yuuki then received some fried bread and cured deer meat. It didn’t seem like she enjoyed the offerings, but she consumed them nonetheless. “It’s important that you keep up your strength,” he whispered to her. “Don’t worry. You’re safe.”
