The lengthy and hazardous trip northward passed like a montage of different languages, cultures, and faceless people. A paid car ride to Jakarta. A boat to Singapore. Lots of walking in silence. Taxis. Another boat, this time a commuter ferry, to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. From there, they made their way through Thailand. There proved to be little need to stop and rest. Ken hardly required sleep now, thanks to the Healer. And Odessa didn’t need anything.
But eventually, they stopped in Bangkok in order to get a visa into Laos. The hotel rooms they booked for a few nights were small and separate.
