Chapter 5

I quickly pulled my panties up, not glancing at where the man went and ran inside. I rushed past all the staff running straight for my room. As I hurried through the halls for the maid’s quarters, I turned the corner running right into Prince Dax, who scared me so bad that I screamed. “Oh my god,” I breathed as my hands trembled. Dax grabbed them in his to stop them. “What happened to you?” He asked, looking me over, noticing my mascara was smudged from all the crying. I wiped it away quickly. “Nothing, I must go,” I insisted, trying to move past. “Wait,” Dax gently grabbed my arm and turned me to face him once more. “Are you sure you are okay?” “I am fine, your highness,” I declared, and he gave me a stern expression at those words. He hated being called by royal names. As I walked away, Dax spoke again. “He won’t bother you again. I promise you that Miss.” I stopped in my tracks. Afraid to turn around. “How did you know?” I asked, but there was no answer. When I turned, Dax was gone. I searched the hall. That was strange. How did he disappear so fast? I shook the thoughts away and hurried to my room. Relieved that Stacey was not going to be back tonight because I was not in the mood to hear her b***h about anything. I went straight to the tub filling the bath with extra hot water to remove this awful feeling from my body. I sunk into the scolding hot water wincing as it burned my soft skin and wholly submerged myself. I wanted my skin to burn the outer layer off, but I could still feel the man’s hands on me—the crazy look in his eyes. The way he forced himself on me. I closed my eyes, sinking under the water. Not sure how long I was underwater, but I heard knocking on my door, so I came up for air. Once I broke the surface, the knock was louder. I grabbed a towel from nearby and wrapped myself, then hurried for the door. I was creaking the door open, slightly terrified of who might be behind it, but when I opened the door, there stood Aviana. “Hey,” was all I could say. Aviana gave me a deadpanned look. “Really?” She pushed me into the room and shut the door quickly. “You’re not going to tell me how your date was with my brother?” She asked, wiggling her brows. I sighed in relief, thanking God that she didn’t know what happened. “I think he only did it to save me from the creepy guy,” I declared, taking a seat on my bed. “I know my brother, and he doesn’t just spend a million on some random girl because he wanted to save her,” She laughed. “Aviana, I am the maid,” “And?” She stated. I gave her a look of annoyance. “I am exhausted. Tomorrow is going to be a long day of cleaning the palace.” I said, walking to my dresser and pulling out a pair of shorts and shirt to pull on. Aviana threw her hands up. “Okay, but I’m telling you he doesn’t give up easily,” She smiled, walking to the door and turning around to blow me a kiss. “Night,” She said, leaving. I sat on the bed, pulling my hair into a bun. The situation replayed in my head over and over. What the hell attacked the man? It wasn’t a human, that is for sure. Its reflexes were way too fast to be a human. But the real question is, how did Dax know? I thought as I laid my head on my pillow. Hours passed, all I could do is toss and turn. All the thoughts were racing in my head. I got up, heading for the bathroom to grab some sleeping pills. After downing them, I walked back to my bed, laying down once more. After about thirty minutes, they started to work, and the room began to slowly get blurry when out I saw something move of the corner of my eye, but the pills took full effect before I could get the chance to see what it was, and I was out like a light. Next day... Per my usual, I got dressed like any other day. It’s my job, and I can’t be getting fired because I’m distracted by what happened, so I pushed it all to the back of my head and hurried to the laundry for Nigel’s daily meeting. As I walked in, Stacey, of course, was already here gossiping about her one-night stand with the rich man while Abigail looked horrified. Who knows what that man forced her to do. Nigel came out of his office and took his place in front of all of the staff. “Okay, can I have everyone’s attention, please?” He shouted and clapped his hands. Everyone got quiet, and he continued. “So today is a big day. There is an engagement announcement party in the garden, and we have a few already selected to work it, so if I call your name, please stand at the front.” Nigel pulled out a paper and started to read from it. “Stacey, Glen, Gabe, Ryan, Abigail, Maribel, and Farrah,” He announced. “Please come to the front, and the rest of you may go about your normal duties.” We all stepped forward, Stacey elbowing me in the side as I approached. She glared at me. “Oops,” she rolled her eyes. I only ignored her and listened to Nigel’s instructions. Once everyone had their duties for the party, they left for the garden. My duty was to help serve the food and replenish drinks, so I rushed to the kitchen to grab some trays and head for the garden. Of course, as I walked out, Danica stood there with a beautiful gown fit for a queen, but when my eyes fell on Prince Dax, His black tie suit made him stand out of the crowd. His hair to one side not sleek but touseled. He took a sip of his champagne, clearly wanting a beer. But he looked miserable at this event. He glanced in my direction, and I quickly removed my eyes, heading for a new tray full of champagne. I walked around, letting guests grab a drink, and when the tray was empty, I grabbed a new one but this time, I added a special drink, taking it straight over to Prince Dax. Once in his presence, I bowed, then held out the tray holding a cold beer bottle. Dax smiled, taking the beer giving me a nod as a thank you. But as soon as I turned around to serve more guests, someone bumped into me. when I turned around, it was like last night all over again. “Geez, watch it, maid,” Danica hissed. I bowed my head. “So sorry, your highness,” I apologized. “You should be,” She spat back. I clenched my teeth, biting back my words. “Excuse me,” I said, starting to walk past Danica. “Hey, maid! How dare you walk away from me. You should respect me as your soon-to-be Queen,” She glared at me as all the guests began to look our way. I bowed again. “Yes, your highness.” I felt a hand on my arm. When I looked up, Dax was staring Danica down. “If you expect to be Queen, I suggest you show our help respect as well,” He growled, and she swallowed hard. “Yes, Prince,” She answered as she bowed her head. He turned to me with a wink. “Carry on, Miss.” I gave him a grateful smile and hurried back to the kitchen. When I stepped into the kitchen, I took a seat at the table, placing my elbows on the table and putting my head in my hands. “Farrah?” Nigel’s voice echoed. I took a deep breath and stood. “Yes, Nigel?” “My office now,” He ordered. I rubbed my hand over my face before standing and followed behind Nigel. Once in his office, he closed the door and gestured for me to take a seat. I accepted, and he sat as well. “Farrah, Danica has come to me about some concerning allegations,” He said, giving me a stern look. My eyes narrowed, perplexed. “Excuse me?” I asked, not sure what I could have done wrong besides the fact that her fiance bought me. “Miss Danica has stated that she asked for a drink, and you told her to ‘get it yourself bi…’” Nigel couldn’t finish the sentence. I gasped in shock. “Sir, I assure you I would never say that to a guest,” I declared. “Farrah, I know you very well, and I know that is true, but she is insisting that I suspend you.” “What?!”
