James' POV
Waking up, I felt different. Stronger somehow. Looking around, I was in the same room I had been in for years. Nothing had changed, but I felt different. I looked down and noticed that instead of hands I had paws. Large grey paws. I tried to stand up but the sedation was still wearing off. Quicker than it usually did but I would still be down for a few more minutes.
I am Gray. A voice called into my mind. Your wolf.
Wolf?! I was only 16. I shouldn’t have my wolf for 2 more years. How could I trust that this wasn’t yet another of the Doctor’s experiments? It wouldn’t be the first time he had played tricks on my mind. I tried to shake the voice away, but I could feel him there. It was like he was a part of me.
We are one. I am your wolf. He said. I could see him standing taller as he spoke.
Why are you here? I’m not eighteen. I’m not supposed to be able to shift yet.
I was called by our Alpha. You must protect the Alpha. He pushed himself forward and started beating on the door like a mad man. I could hear the others howling in the distance.
It was usually quiet in the lab, and even with Axel in the room next to me, I could feel something strange about him too. What was this?
We are the True Beta.
