I felt like a stranger in the mating ceremony. People came up to Mason and I, greeting us. They acted like they'd known us for years. I, felt estranged. Before I knew it, Mason was doing most of the talking. And I was left staring out at the moon, exhausted. I'd been standing in heels for the eternity of the day. My feet needed a break.
When I slipped away from my husband, safe to say he didn't even notice. He had a lot of friends, childhood and otherwise, who attended the ceremony. The guest list had been cut short, compared to th wedding. However, there were still more than five thousand people in attendance. I was beginning to see what it truly means to marry a prince.
I caught a familiar scent in the vicinity, and before I knew it, someone touched my back, giving me goosebumps. "I've missed you, Jasmine.'' My father's voice rings over me as he comes before me. The glass of Champagne I was holding almost trips.
"Drinking while you're pregnant? Already started on being an irresponsible mother haven't you?'' He laughed, and raised a brow.
I smiled uncomfortably. "I'm not drinking it, Mason adviced walking around with a glass of wine wards off anyone who wants to approach because they think my mind is far off.''
"I see,'' he sighed, stepping closer. "I've always known you were born for greatness, but this..'' He looks around. The balcony we were standing on was one of the three overlooking the main compound, where most of the guest part was. This seemed to impress my father. "This is overdoing it, even for you.''
I looeked at him, wondering how he'd casually say those words.
"Uhm, excuse me, I think my husband is calling me.''
"OOhhh your husband,'' He mocked. "Now you have to brag to the rest of us commoners that you're marrying a king.''
"I'm sorry dad, I wasn't bragging. And Mason isn't the king yet.'' I corrected him, and he didn't seem to like that.
"You think that just because you married into royalty you become it? You're still trash I picked up at foster care because no one wanted you.'' His words slice my heart, I try my best to control what I feel. It's not as easy handling my father. He is a handful.
"Mom dropped me there because you left her no choice.'' I spoke in a low tone, fighting the tears. "What do you want dad, really?''
"I just feel sad, I mean, I had to give off my daughter in marriage, and now you two. I'm losing both of you girls.'' He looked like he wanted to cry. The mention of giving each of us away irked me. Jessy got married at my own wedding, to my own mate and got pregnant just to spite me. Yet, as usual, my father sees no fault in her.
"What, you're not going to say anything? After how much I've done for you?''
"Sorry dad,''
"Sorry? That's all you're ever doing, apologizing.'' He spat, pushing himself over me, almost making me fall.
"Dad, you're clearly drunk, please go home.''
"Now you're chasing me? Your fancy castle and your grand wedding have suddenly changed you? You think we're beneath you now?''
"Is everything all right here?'' Someone states, and my father falls flat on the floor, head first, in an attempt to bow at the queen.
"Your majesty, Luna Lona.'' The queen raised a brow as she looked at my father.
"I am her father.'' My dad gets up, flashing his teeth in his smile. He was drunk, the same kind of drunk that would lead him to beat me when I was a child. I felt exposed and uncomfortable being next to him, but I kept my cool. A lot of eyes were already peeping at us.
"Well I suppose it's pleasant to meet you, Mr...''
"Mr Gerald Jamingson.'' I fill in, smiling as I hold my father by his hand, trying to support him before he trips over.
"Jamingson? You don't share your father's surname Jasmine?'' She raised a brow, and I felt perplexed. How was I even going to explain this.
"My father changed his name to his wife's recently, I choose to keep my mother's maiden name.'' I said, and my father looked at me flatly, "Too many documents.'' I smiled, trying to balance the tension.
"My daughter's a bit forgetful, I told her to get the paper work handled, and get my surname before the wedding, so I can feel honoured before she has to carry her mate's name. But the forgetful fool forgot.'' My father laughed, but the queen didn't. I laughed with him, and immediately clashed eyes with Mason. The mention of the wedding made me realize that my father might ruin everything.
Mason, as if reading face, rushed over in a fashionable way.
"You seem flashed, my darling, tired? Want to sit down?'' He came to stand by my side.
"Mason, what a wonderful surprise. I was just talking to Jasmine's father.'' The queen smiled, I frowned, already knowing this was heading south.
"Really? What about?''
"About his daughter, your wife, the future queen of all werewolves, being a fool.'' The air got thick, the queen's eyes flashed a shade of red, signaling the emergence of her Alpha wolf. She was angry. Red angry.
"Mother, please..'' Mason tried to interfere, but the king was already headed to us.
"My father says foolish things when he is drunk. He never means any of it.''
"Quiet you stupid child, I won't let you berate me in the presence of such beauty.'' Beauty? What the hell was he talking about? "You, my queen, possess esthetic beauty. If you let me, I mean, if I got the chance to own your heart, I would show you what..''
"How dare you!'' The king's voice rang in the balcony, catching everyone's attention. "You dare try to court my wife, my mate, the queen?'' His eyes were red too, I felt Mason instinctively push me behind him.
"What?'' My father hiccuped, his vision dragged as he barely stood on his feet. "If my daughter can seduce a whole prince into marrying her, then I can get the queen.''
The king's fist came clashing down my father's face before anyone had a chance to react. He was knocked out cold in that second, and then, all eyes fell on me.
