10. Connection

Freya pov

Samuel ordered for us to be put in cages. Silver cages.

"If you still refuse to fight, I'll kill you both! And I'll make sure you'll have a prolonged death! So what is going to be? Kill or be killed?"

I look at Levi. His eyes were already set on me. He smiles at me, and I smile back at him, knowing he will not hurt me.

"I take your silence like a no! You won't kill the other, don't you? I was counting on this. Let's get the show started!"

Few guards, with Thomas in the lead, were coming our way. They all held silver spears in their hands. I knew exactly what would be going to happen.

"F**k you! You coward! Come here and fight!" I yelled after being stung several times with the silver spears. I was still on my feet but bleeding in abundance. Levi was already on his knees, his teeth clenched.

"Do you still speak, uh? More! Make her bleed till she doesn't know her name!"

It was already 5 am. We've been tortured all night long. I couldn't move a finger! Levi was unconscious for an hour now. After they hurt us enough so we couldn't fight back, they took us out of the cages and beat us again and again. My eyes were swallowed, my ribs were broken, and what was doing all even worse was that I couldn't feel my wolf.

"Enough! Let them rest for a while! Make sure they'll heal enough so we can start again! This will be a lesson for everyone! No one should refuse me!"

I sigh in relief.

After Samuel and his guards left, two females came to bring us food and water.

"Here, drink this! It will help you take the silver out of your system quicker!" The younger one said to me while the other was trying to wake Levi up.

I drink the cold liquid thinking about a way to escape here. But I found none. This son of a b***h will torture us to death.

Levi finally wakes up with a grunt. He holds his head and swears. Then his eyes locked with mine.

"Little Freya! Are you ok? I'm sorry I couldn't protect you." He said, looking down.

"Levi, It's fine, don't worry! I'm not that bad after all. I've been worse, trust me!"

"Worse? What do you mean worse?!"

"I never lost a fight! Not even the first one! Let's say that Samuel wanted to see how much I could take! So he decided to torture me for a few weeks every day!"

His eyebrows furrowed in anger.

"I'll kill that motherf****r! I promise I'll make him pay for this!" He said, making me more confused by his reactions.

"I'm afraid I can't let you do this! When he dies, I'll be the one to kill him!" I said, and we both started laughing. My ribs still hurting, but I couldn't stop.

"You know, you're exactly how I imagined my Mate!" He said, and his smile disappeared.

I stopped laughing and looked at him.

"You do not have a Mate?"

"No! I wasn't lucky enough to find her before being captured by this psychopath. I'm glad I didn't tho. As the pain of not being next to her would have killed me by now."

I nod at him without a word. I could feel his pain in the way he spoke.

The sun started rising, but there was something unusual about it. Something so familiar.

Lia was so agitated. It made me feel uneasy.

'What's wrong, Lia?'

'It's coming! And there's nothing I can do to stop it, Freya! Please forgive me!'

'What's coming? What is going on?'

She didn't answer me. Something is wrong.

"What's wrong, Freya?"

"I don't know, Levi! Lia is acting strange! I think something bad ia about to happen! She said that something is coming!"

"Don't worry; I'm sure everything is going to be ok. Your wolf is so strong! She will help you!"

"She is...but...she's gone now! Levi! I can't feel her anymore!"

'Lia?! Lia, talk to me! Please!'

Silence. She's gone. But how? Why?

"Levi! Can Shade feel something different?"

"Mmm...no...I mean yeah! I don't know!" He said, scratching the back of his.

"He can't feel Lia, so he is worried, but then again, he can feel her for a moment. But there is something about her. She's changing!"

"Changing? What do you mean?!"

"I don't know, little Freya! But her aura...she seems stronger!"

As I thought about Levi's words, a terrible pain goes through my body but vanishes like it never happened.

I hear footsteps, and when I look around, I see Samuel and his guards coming our way.

"The break is over! Get up! Do you accept to fight now?"

He came closer and stopped suddenly, looking at me without blinking. Curiosity and fear could be seen in his eyes.

"What happened to you?! Why I can feel your wolf?" He turned around to his guards. "Why didn't you inject her with wolfsbane yet?"

'How can he sense my wolf if not even I can?' I thought. Something is off.

"But...but we did! We added to her food as well! To be sure...!" One of the guards said.

"You are good for nothing! Go and bring me the wolfsbane! From how strong her aura is, I will think she has never been injected if I hadn't known better!"

The same guard ran off, probably to bring the substance.

Samuel was looking at me when a whimper made us both turn to Levi.

He was crunching to the ground, trying to... control his wolf?

'What the f**k is happening?'

"Freya! I can feel her! I can feel Lia! She is in so much pain, and I can't help her! She asked me to remind you who you are! She said to never give up on what you want! And don't let the ones around you change you!"

"Pain? Why? What's going on? Why didn't she say anything to me? She is my wolf! She was supposed to talk to me!"

"Maybe because not even she likes you back! Can't you see? Everyone runs away from you sooner or later! You will always be alone!" Samuel said, smirking.

Anger. Anger was everything that I could feel.

"Little Freya, don't listen to him! I'm here! I'll always be with you! I will never abandon you, Freya! Focus on our connection! Can you feel it? Can you feel that I don't lie?"

I look at Levi to search for any sign of lies in his eyes. But I couldn't find any. Then I did what he said. I could feel the connection. It was confusing as he wasn't my Mate.

My anger diminished, but not the pain in my chest, as I remember how lonely I was all my life.

Sun started glowing. But the next moment, it was getting dark.

A solar eclipse!

Maybe that's why Lia was acting strange, and then she disappeared. Now I know she will be back.
