Chapter 13Nick walked through the entrance of the hospital and approached the front desk. When he asked for Hilda, he got a blank look in response.
“Look, Hilda Raven, came in with an ambulance last night with a gunshot wound. You took her to surgery.”
The woman behind the desk tapped on her computer. “Are you a relative?”
“Boyfriend.”
“Okay.” She narrowed her eyes at him, and not for the first time did he wish he looked older. “She’s on the fourth floor.”
“Thank you.” He nodded and hurried toward the elevator, but when he saw a hulking form leaning against the wall opposite it, he turned to the right and hoped to find stairs somewhere. He couldn’t say for sure, but he believed the man was a shifter.
