After Jase's statement, I politely excused myself. I was drunk and I needed to find Kate so we could get the hell out of here, I was over this party and being in Grey's presence...I couldn't breathe.
"Kate!" I called over the dancing bodies by the pool, standing on my tip toes to try and see her over the mass crowd that had now formed.
"Emily!" I was pulled back sharply with a hand on my arm, which almost cost me my balance in these bloody heels.
My feet were currently on fire, breaking new heels in at a party maybe wasn't the best idea.
"What...Grey?" I turned surprised taking in his appearance, he gave nothing away.
"You have a boyfriend?" He demanded and I shook my head with a scoff, pulling my arm out of his hand forcefully.
"Why is that so surprising, yes I have a boyfriend!" I confirmed, "Kate!" I yelled over the music again, where the hell was that girl.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked me looking completely and utterly pissed off, his anger made me infuriated.
"Why would I? At what point should I have told you I had a boyfriend?" I asked him miraculously, my hands in the air to exaggerate my point.
"Maybe before you decided to grind on me?" I winced, fair play.
"We were just dancing Grey, don't let your head blow off your shoulders." I brushed him off as he scoffed.
"Do you dance with all men like that?" He asked me taking a step closer to me, lowering his face closer to mine. "Do you look at all men like this Ems? Tell me." He asked placing a hand on my waist, his minty breath hitting my senses like a fire straight to my core.
"I don't know what your talking about Grey." I told him holding my composure, "like I said before don't get ahead of yourself." He looked at me heated, his grey orbs swirling with unsaid promises, promises that I wanted him to tell me so I can keep them forever.
"Your doing it now Ems." He replied huskily, "your biting your lip again, your eyes are filled with want...you want me." I recoiled at that statement, heat flushing to my cheeks quicker than a volcano erupting.
"Keep dreaming Grey, I was looking behind you." I waved with a sweet smile upto Maddox, he caught it at the right time and sent me a wink back. Perfect timing for Grey to see.
"Playing games your thing now huh?" He asked amused before leaning close to my ear, "I'll win if that's the game you want to play Ems." I groaned pushing him away.
"What do you want?" I asked him, I needed him away from me now before my resolve goes and I end up in one of lavish bedrooms with him.
I didn't trust myself around Grey. I had it all planned. Tonight I would come here and be confident, I wouldn't be that 11 year old girl heartbroken over her crush leaving. I wasn't her anymore. I was mature, responsible and intelligent. I felt like I could hold my ground tonight and prepare myself not to see him for another 15 years.
That plan went to s**t.
The moment I laid my eyes on his ridiculously sexy self, my resolved craved. My body craved him. Thinking about not seeing him again for a while...hurt me more than I would like to admit. When he looks at me, I know I should run. The hot shot rockstar and the girl who put her dreams on hold, it's laughable.
"I want you to admit it...admit that you want me." He asked me, his hands applying more delightful pressure to my hips.
"Every girl at this party probably wants you Grey, including Allison who..."
"Here we go again with Allison." His eyes rolled, "Jealous Ems?" He smirked, eyebrows raised and it was at this moment I wanted nothing more than to punch him.
"Let's get one thing straight Grey," I told him, pointing my finger into his chest, "I'll never be one of those little one night stands or a wild red head from your groupie parties on tour." I fumed pushing against his chest, "I'll never be jealous of Allison, I'm angry and I have every right to be!" I screamed the whole crowd turning to us.
"Emily." He warned looking to the group that formed around us sending each and every last one a glare.
"You left!" I continued, feeling my eyes begin to burn with the threat of tears, "You were supposed to be my friend and you left! No phone calls, no texts...absolutely nothing! Then you hook up with this...this w***e!" I screamed pointing towards Allison, "broadcasted around the world about your text messages, because you wanted something...you wanted to get your d**k wet!" I continued to scream, trying to catch my breath and control my heartbeat.
"Emily." Grey warned, "we can talk in private, remember what I said about stories earlier?" He gestures to the crowd that surrounded us, every single last one had their phone out.
They print lies. I should know that.
I immediately froze. My senses coming back to me, god what had I done. Every bloody news station will have this screaming argument on their screens come tomorrow morning. I looked to Grey, a tear escaping my eye.
"I'm sorry." I whispered, "I didn't...I'm sorry." He grabbed my arm, pulling me to his chest and turning his back to the crowd. He made a nod towards his security and I kept my eyes closed as the party was shut down.
He was tense, pissed off rightfully so.
"Grey I'm.."
"Emily don't." I winced, my nickname gone and venom lining his voice.
I couldn't even bring myself to look up to him or to the crowd that was now retreating through the house. This wasn't me. I was never the girl to cause a scene and although I had anger towards Grey, I should never had exposed him like that. He trusted my family, he wanted a few days of privacy and I've ruined it for him.
I grabbed onto his top underneath his jacket, I felt his warmth spread through me. His hands never once moved themselves away from my waist as he kept me shielded from the photographs and recordings people were taking on their phones.
"They're gone." He confirmed, pulling away from me and running his hands through his messy hair. "Go find Jase, I need to make a few calls." He told me, I couldn't look at him so I nodded, hanging my head in shame heading towards Jase.
I wiped the tears from my eyes as I retreated away from him, heading back up the grass to the place I was twenty minutes prior. I looked to Jase, he shook his head at me.
"I'm sorry." I said as a statement to them all.
"Don't be sorry sweetie." Benny laughed, "I have never seen anyone put Grey in his place like that." He told me grinning from ear to ear but it didn't lighten my mood, I felt like the most shittiest person to grace this earth.
"If your that fiery...my offer still stands?" Maddox winked breaking a smile in me.
"Ahh there it is." Johnathon smirked, "He's a big boy, he can handle his ground Emily. Don't beat yourself up over it." He brushed off taking a sip of the dark liquor in his glass, scotch maybe.
"Johnny's right." Maddox added, "Reporters don't care about the s**t they write, someone could have taken a picture of you having a general conversation and they would have turned it sour." He hated reporters, that I could tell.
"That's not very fair." I told him and feeling sorry that work like mines adds to their problems.
"It's a package deal with fame babe." Maddox replied with a smirk, "Your fine. Come and have a drink with us?" He asked holding up a glass of the same golden liquid that graced Johnny's lips moments prior.
"I think I've maybe over stepped my limit with alcohol tonight." I told him truthfully, "Thank you for the offer though." I smiled.
"Anytime princess." He replied with a wink.
"So I'm going to head home." Jase spoke up, emptying his glass of alcohol before turning to me. "Your fine kid." He assured kissing my cheek, "Amelia is picking me up, will you get home ok?" He asked pulling away.
"Yeah I'll be fine." I told him with a sweet smile.
I just need to find Kate first, heaven knows where the hell she is. I should know by this point what Kates like and her curling around a toilet didn't seem appealing to me in the slightest.
"See yah later Jase." The guys called out to him as he retreated down the grass and into the house.
"Amelia?" Johnny asked now with a cigarette lit in his hand.
"It's his on and off again girlfriend." I confirmed with a giggle causing Maddox to groan.
"f*****g hell, even Jase is getting laid tonight!" At that statement, we all laughed and watched as he adjusted his jeans. "My balls are f*****g blue bro." He confirmed turning to Benny.
"Don't look at me, I may be gay but you couldn't pay me to go near that filthy dick." Benny recoiled in disgust causing me to erupt with laughter, Maddox looked like he had just been wounded deeply.
"Filthy d**k? I've had models worth more than your house on my dick." Maddox snapped back.
"Technically he doesn't have a house." Johnny added in amused.
"Johnny's right, it's called a penthouse darling." Benny told Maddox smugly.
"Same shit." Maddox grumbled.
It was shortly after that I retreated from the boys, I needed to find Grey and apologise for my shitty and childish behaviour. I couldn't find Kate but I called her and she was at home curled around her toilet, I hung up the moment I heard projectile vomit coming from her mouth.
Straight down the hallway and on the left. That's where Benny told me I would find him. I knocked gently against the door, I could hear Grey talking away before he stopped and I heard him say "Come in."
I opened the door to a large seating area. It looked warm and cosy, a fire crackling away and the room dimly lighted with nothing but a lamp in the corner. It was spacious, warm and elegant. The mink coloured sofas made a yawn escape my lips, they looked way to comfortable. White throws draped over the sides of them and large pillows scattered.
It was then I locked eyes with Grey. He was leaning back against the sofa, one hand to his ear and the other in his jeans pocket. My inner goddess came to life at the sight of him without a shirt on, displaying rippling abs and an explosion of tattoos. I could see them clearer but still couldn't make them out.
His long legs stretched out to the fluffy rug in front of the crackling fire, barefoot and by god beautiful.
"Brilliant." He spoke into the phone, never once taking his eyes off me. "Thanks Laura, enjoy the weekend."
Laura?
"Bye." He sighed throwing his phone down beside him on the sofa.
I watched as he leaned his head back and closed his eyes, he looked stressed and I couldn't help but feel guilt that I may have caused it. Most girls would run looking at the man in front of me, dangerous and rough...tattooed and troubled but all I wanted to do was run to him.
I guess Grey has always had that hold over me, when I'm near him I forget about everything and I don't think. He challenges me and although I would never admit it, it excites me. He brings out a side of me that I buried long ago to be the perfect daughter to my parents, deep down he knew my truth.
"I come in peace." I told him holding my hands up in submission, he opened his eyes and tilted his head to the side.
"You can sit Ems, I don't bite." I walked over to were he was sitting and plopped myself down beside him, turning myself to look at him. "Well not all the time." He looked at me with a smirk, which soon turned into a panty dropping smile when he seen my cheeks turn pink.
"Grey...I really am sorry, I didn't think and I was.."
"Stop apologising." He groaned, "It's not your fault. That's just my life, people prying for anything to pocket money from a story." He turned in his position so he was now facing me too.
"It shouldn't be that way." I shook my head, "It's not fair." I told him with a frown.
"The bittersweet deal with fame." He smiled softly, "Seriously though, publishing?" He asked with small chuckle trying to shift the mood.
"Yep." I replied with a small smile.
"Let me guess was that Daddy's idea?" He asked with a smirk.
"He wanted to expand and Jase never showed any interest, I had a degree and the rest is history." I told him with a frown.
"You never wanted to do that Ems." I snapped my eyes up and locked them with his. "Don't look surprised, I remember." He smiled. "I will always remember." He promised and just like that my resolve was gone and my insides pooled.
I wanted him. I've always wanted him.
"Why didn't you call me Grey?" I sighed annoyed, "15 years and nothing. You can't be so simple minded and stupid to think that I didn't want you to call or even to send a text. You kept in contact with all of my family...you singled me out. You left without a goodbye and then.."
"Do you remember that summer just before I left?" He asked stopping me in my tracks.
The summer we had spent everyday together while Jase was at summer camp. I remembered it like it was yesterday.
"Yes." I replied defeated with a small smile.
"Do you remember what we were talking about at the waterfall?" He asked leaning closer to me, "Remember what I said to you Emily, we had just came out of the water and sat on the rocks." He told me and I knew.
We spent that day at the waterfall. Swimming, laughing and having fun. As the sun settled, we climbed out of the water and sat on the rocks. Grey offering his chocolate bar to me which I greedily scoffed. We joked about him becoming famous one day, he was so good with his music and I told him everyday that he was going to break the world one day.
He smiled shaking it off before locking his eyes with mines.
"You said that if there is a day when I become famous and have to leave. That you'll come back." I breathed, " days, months and years will never add up to the friendship I have with you. You're.."
"My angel." Grey whispered finishing my sentence. His minty breath now fanning across my face.
Fuck.
