Chapter 26

Odessa feared she would be crushed to death. By the way, Desmond was hugging her so tightly, she felt the fear and anger radiating off of him in waves. And she wondered if she was the reason why he acted this way. Why did you leave Odessa? I woke up and couldn't find you anywhere. I was so worried something bad happened to you. He had stopped hugging her, and confidence was important to nicely. Two moments. Strong teeth can help, even if they get out into trouble. Sometimes held on to her forearms lightly. I'm sorry. I didn't wake you. I was bored, and I couldn't sleep, so I decided to go to the library to while away time. You were sleeping so peacefully, I didn't want to wake you up. Odessa whispered to the infuriated alpha who reached for her again as if she could disappear at any moment. He held her close and breathed in her scent to calm the rage and bloodlust he had been trying so hard to suppress. Odessa felt a pang of pain for making Des worry so much about her. But she needed to do whatever she was doing. She needed to find answers. Speaking of answers, Odessa turned a little to the left and noticed Alaric leaning against the wall with blood running down his temple. Her eyes widened in shock, and she immediately reached out to him. Oh, heavens. What happened to you, Alaric? He was about to respond when a resounding growl echoed through the halls of the Pack House, rendering everyone in that vicinity rigid. Leave us. His commanding voice ordered, and everyone scattered like ants. He turned to face a frightened-looking Odessa, who had no idea what she had just done. Des, she called out softly in order not to poke the beast. What's wrong? Why are you— Why am I what? He thundered, interrupting her mid-sentence. I woke up and couldn't find my wife in bed, and was worried sick. And here she is caring for another male's well-being, right in front of me. Odessa, he's right. You shouldn't have done that in such a delicate situation. We can't feel the mate bond, but he can, and I'm sure his wolf was not happy seeing you trying to cater to another male, Aria reasoned. Odessa sighed as she understood her mistake. She reached out and touched the angry alpha on his chest, knowing fully well he could rip her arm off if he wanted. But Desmond wasn't like that. I'm so sorry, Des. I promise it won't happen again. I just acted on instinct. The moment I saw blood, I thought something bad happened. I realize now that I shouldn't have done that. He breathed in deeply, his eyes closed. When he opened his eyes, they were less dark, but still a storm of emotions. It's okay. Let's go to our room. She followed behind him and got inside their bedroom, heading straight for the dressing room, while Desmond sat at the edge of the bed. What did you go to read at the library? Odessa paused what she was doing on hearing his question, her heart skipping a beat. She hoped within her that he couldn't hear her heart beating so fast, or else she was doomed. I... I was just reading for leisure. Being alone in the packhouse almost every day with nothing to do can be boring sometimes. Desmond looked deep in thought. His face scrunched up and plump lips pouted. She found herself dreaming of kissing him. Her cheeks flushed in embarrassment as Aria chuckled in her mind. Stop it. She yelled at her mischievous wolf, quieting her. Desmond didn't look like he believed her, but didn't press on the matter. Instead, he sighed and leaned back on the bed. Odessa noticed how tired he looked and wished for nothing but to ease his stress or whatever was plaguing him. Letting her intrusive thoughts win, she approached him and settled herself in between his legs. Her hands ran through his hair and massaged his scalp with her fingers. Desmond sighed in approval. As her fingers worked their magic, he felt his tense shoulders relax. And for the first time since he was back from the other mansion with his former Delta and Beta, his bloodlust and rage, which he had been struggling to suppress, were quiet. If you have anything in mind you want to be doing while I am away, just ask, Odessa. She thought about what she would love to do, but nothing came to mind at that particular moment. If there's anything in mind, I will let you know. She smiled and looked down at him, and he smiled back at her. His cheeks were a flushed red colour. He was gorgeous, she thought to herself. He was kind, compassionate and caring, especially towards her. She knew she couldn't feel the mate bond like he did, but it didn't matter. She was his true mate. It made her wonder if what Alaric said about him was true. She wanted to ask who Ella D was so badly. As she was about to bring it up, there was a knock on the door. It was Beta George. He came to call the Alpha because they had work to do. Duty calls, love. Odessa pouted, making Desmond laugh, pinching her cheeks and kissing her forehead. He found his mate absolutely beautiful. He didn't know what he did for the goddess to bestow such a blessing upon him. But he was glad nonetheless. I'll be back late in the evening, so you'll have to eat dinner without me. She sighed and plopped on the bed, her back facing him. This was going to be a long day. After the Alpha had left, Odessa freshened up and decided to take a stroll on the pack grounds. She had a lot of exploring to do with enough time on her hands. She decided to while away time. She would go back later in the afternoon to the library, where Simeon was waiting for her with more books. Last night, he had shown her the book, which had contents about wolves with special abilities. But she couldn't find anything similar to what she had seen in the other book with the wolf identical to hers. The only information she found was on hybrids, and that was what she spent her whole night reading. She had found a truckload of information that her brain wasn't able to comprehend all at once. There was one thing that frightened her though. It was the bloodlust. It said: When a hybrid lost control, they instantly blacked out, and the beast took over. It's like being blinded by rage with only one thought in mind. Blood must flow. She felt shivers run down her spine at the thought of seeing Desmond in an episode where his bloodlust took over. She wondered if she would still feel the same way about him. What should I do, Aria? Do you think I should still ask him about Ellady? I don't know about you, but I think we shouldn't bring up his ex-wife, whom he killed during one of his episodes. We don't know what it could trigger. She huffed in frustration. Aria was right. She couldn't just bring it up expecting zero consequences. She had to wait for the right time. But when was the right time to bring up such a delicate topic? Odessa was so deep in thought, she didn't notice someone was in her way until she bumped into a hard, muscular chest. Her nose stung from the impact as she raised her head to give the person a piece of her mind, but caught her mouth hanging when she looked up and saw Alaric's infuriating grin.
