The Alpha had a busy day,Today.
rogues had been slipping through the borders and attacking his pack members.
It was concerning, to say the least.
Gather the pack warriors.
Alpha Desmond said to his Beta.
We do not know how many they are, so let's be cautious about the attack.
Oh, and kill on sight.
Alpha Desmond commanded.
Beta George already knew what to do.
So he bowed in reply to his Alpha and called on 20 of their best warriors, including Alaric.
The lad was fishy, but he was young, strong and well trained by his father.
He was an asset.
So they walked on foot, taking a shortcut through the back of the Pack House to avoid being seen by the pack members.
The reason for this was to avoid raising any false alarms.
Alpha Desmond didn't want his pack members to be frightened.
He would quietly kill those rogues that dared to enter his territory.
And his pack would be peaceful again.
As they approached the border, the Beta assigned five men to be above ground as lookouts.
Wolves couldn't speak in their wolf form.
So they used what they call a pack link.
It's like a connection you have with the Alpha that binds the other pack members under him.
It allows you to communicate telepathically.
George, Alaric in front of me, Max and Sawyer.
Take the rear.
The rest of you be alert and do not speak.
We do not want them to know we are here.
The Alpha's voice boomed in their minds, so they waited patiently for any sign of the rogues.
But it was like they had suddenly decided not to show themselves.
Just as Alaric was about to tell the Alpha this was a waste of time—
One of the scouts in the trees spoke through the link.
Alpha, I have scouted about five rogues coming your way, and they are fast, sir.
It's like they are blending with the wind.
Best—
But the Alpha couldn't seem to fathom how that was possible.
As he sighed, he eyed his Beta, who looked just as shocked as him.
You see, rogues were outcasts who have been banished from their pack or never had a pack at all.
Cutting a link from a pack makes a werewolf less strong and clumsy.
So how are they able to be so stealthy that even the Alpha's heightened senses couldn't pick up a sound?
Everyone was as quiet as possible.
Desmond and his warriors stood in a fighting position, waiting for the rogues to approach them so they could taste his wrath.
He could already feel the bloodlust boiling at the surface.
He would unleash it on those dirty mutts who dared infiltrate his territory.
This is getting ridiculous.
Where are they?
Alaric muttered through the mind link.
He was getting agitated already.
Rogues weren't smart at all.
So why did it feel like they were playing with them?
Relax, Alaric.
The Alpha said.
We wait, and we will wait.
George spoke calmly, always the reasonable one.
I just feel like they are messing with us.
Don't you think so?
To Alpha Desmond.
The Alpha was thinking about it.
He wondered why they hadn't shown themselves after his warriors had scouted them from the top of the trees.
What could they possibly be trying to do?
Think, Desmond, think.
It's an ambush.
Des suddenly deadpanned.
Desmond's eyes suddenly widened in realization.
They had tricked them and shown only five of the rogues to his scouts to make them let their guard down.
They already knew they were here and were waiting for them.
Goddess, why didn't he think of this possibility?
There could be hundreds of these rogues right now.
And he might have as well dragged his warriors into a trap.
Everyone slowly backed up and retreated.
It's a trap.
The Alpha calmly commanded in the mind link.
But Alaric, being the bonehead that he is, snapped out loud.
Why should we retreat, Alpha?
We are all re—
Before he could finish his sentence, he was sent flying through the air by a force that couldn't be seen.
Alaric landed on a nearby tree with a loud c***k, his body falling to the ground and going still.
No.
Alpha Desmond roared in absolute rage as he looked around him to find what force that was.
But all he could see was his men being thrown in different directions by the unknown force.
His fangs and claws had extended in the presence of a threat.
He was ready to dig them into any rogue that came near him.
But they never did.
They kept on attacking his men, even the scouts in the trees, until he had had enough of their games.
Show yourselves.
He thundered using his Alpha voice, but they weren't part of his pack, so they weren't obliged to obey.
Enough of this crap.
Desmond, find them and show them who the real Alpha is here.
His wolf growled, threatening to make him transform.
But he knew he couldn't.
Not yet.
Not after what happened the last time he did.
So he cleared his mind and focused.
He was a hybrid.
He was faster.
Rogues couldn't trick him.
He was their superior.
Just as he thought, the unknown forces were the rogues barreling at high speed towards his warriors.
Even his Beta took a hit to the head and was lying unconscious on the ground.
The wound was healing, but it was slow.
He watched with his heightened vision, as if in slow motion, as another rogue tore through the air, avoiding him and heading for his pack warrior.
Ah.
So they were told to avoid him.
Then how very smart.
He caught the scrawny, dirty thing by the neck, and before it could process anything, he ripped its throat out.
The foul smell of blood permeated the air.
But to Desmond, thanks to his heightened senses, it was as if it didn't exist.
And that's how he tore through and ripped the remaining rogues to shreds.
Eyes bright as rubies, claws and fangs dripping with the blood of his enemies.
The rest of the rogues, on seeing this, fled the scene, not wanting to face the wrath of the demon Alpha.
Desmond wasn't sure what happened and why rogues were suddenly attacking his people, but he was going to find out.
