Odessa sat on her bed as she stared at the wall in front of her. She was just noticing the beautiful, intricate art on the wall, as if telling a story.
Odessa stared hard at the intricate design, noticing a pattern. All the designs led to a drawing of a large wolf's head. Her eyes widened at her sudden discovery.
She had been alone since the morning. She woke up, finding herself alone on the bed. Desmond's part was cold. When she asked the Beta, he told her Desmond went to an important meeting and wouldn't be back till the following day.
She continued looking at the diagram of the wolf's head, feeling drawn towards its large eyes. It was as if she was in a trance. As her eyes turned unfocused, the more she stared.
A sharp pain in her neck made her wince. Falling to the floor, she quickly touched her neck, the part where Emma and Lucas inserted that needle with unknown liquid into her neck.
“Thank Goddess. It was just a memory,” she whispered as she touched the smooth part of her neck.
“But aren't you curious how we were able to survive even after being injected?” Aria asked.
“Um, I think the Moon Goddess gave us another chance,” Odessa whispered, unsure.
If looks could kill, Aria would have buried her six feet under the ground.
“I know that. But why?” Aria questioned, making Odessa more curious.
“I don't know,” she stated, confused.
Now that she thought of it, why was she given a second chance at life? She had never heard of a werewolf being reborn.
“Maybe we have to check the library,” Odessa said, resolve in her tone.
She walked out of the bedroom, descending to Beta George's suite.
Knock.
Odessa knocked gently on his door, awaiting a reply.
A few minutes later, the door opened and revealed the Beta's wife.
“My Luna, what a pleasure. You came to visit my home.”
Claudia bowed, inviting her in.
Odessa smiled respectfully while entering the suite.
“How have you been lately?” Claudia asked kindly as she stepped inside her house.
“I've been good. Thank you for asking,” Odessa replied.
“Would you like something to drink or anything?” she asked, already walking up to the bar that sat beside the kitchen.
Odessa quickly shook her head.
“Oh no, no, that's all right. I was only passing by, and I thought I'd drop in.”
“Okay then,” Claudia hummed as she looked around awkwardly.
This wasn't just a visit, Claudia noticed.
It's not every day the beloved Luna of the Blood Moon Pack just happens to drop by while she is on a walk.
“Is your husband around? I'd like to speak to him,” Odessa asked, piquing Claudia's curiosity.
“Oh yes, he is. He's just—”
As if on cue, Beta George walked in, adjusting his trousers and looking sweaty.
“Well, that was a blast. My beautiful wife, you know how to make me happy.”
He trailed off after seeing the visitor in his house.
“Luna, what are you doing here?” he asked, cleaning the sweat that suddenly appeared on his brow.
Odessa looked towards Claudia and saw the blush creeping up her cheeks.
Odessa looked at Claudia's disheveled appearance, just noticing how rough her brown hair looked.
She came to a realization.
“Oh.”
“Oh, I think somebody had too much fun.”
Her wolf joked, making Odessa's face red in embarrassment.
“I just stopped by wanting to visit you,” Odessa quickly spoke, her voice rushed.
“And I wanted to ask if there's a library where books about wolves are found.”
“Cough.”
Beta George coughed, adjusting his trousers.
“Yes, there is. It's at the Moonlit Glade, but the books there are old and haven't been updated for years.”
Odessa shook her head.
“I don't care if they're old. I just need to read something to pass the time.”
She smiled gently at him.
“All right. I'll get cleaned up and escort you now. Or I could get the books you want and bring them to you,” he continued.
Odessa's eyes opened wide at his suggestion.
“Um, no. I can do it myself. The thrill of finding a good book is in searching.”
And with that, Odessa zoomed out of the room a nervous wreck.
“Stop acting like a kid. They did what married couples do. You are supposed to do exactly that with Desmond.”
Odessa immediately shut her wolf out to prevent hearing such embarrassing thoughts.
Odessa walked towards the library where Beta George directed her.
“Good day to you, Luna.”
A maid kindly bowed, followed by another maid.
Odessa smiled at them, continuing her journey.
She stared at the huge library in front of her.
Her mouth gaped in wonder.
“Look at this. Wow,” she whispered.
As she turned around, looking at the towering shelves of books that seemed to stretch into the heavens.
“Freaking heavens. This place is wonderful,” Aria said, finally free after Odessa had shut her out.
The place was filled with the smell of old parchment and knowledge.
“It's time to find out what happened that day after Emma tried to kill me. To find out if there's any wolf that could be reborn.”
Odessa strolled down the aisle, running her hands through the rows of books as she felt a wave of energy from the ancient books.
“Where do I even start from?”
Odessa questioned no one.
Her voice was barely above a whisper over the creaking of numerous old shelves.
After searching endlessly for the right book, to no avail, apparently.
Odessa ended up at the last section of this huge library.
Cobwebs and roaches were everywhere, signifying no one had been to this section for quite a while.
Unbothered, she continued her search for a compatible book, searching through old books not related to what she wanted to find.
Suddenly.
A book fell from the shelf and hit her hard on the head.
“Ow.”
Odessa winced, looking down at the culprit.
A large, dusty book, its cover flung open, revealing pages filled with ancient script.
“What's this?” she asked curiously as she bent down to pick it up.
“This book must be a thousand years old because it looks like the smallest amount of breeze could destroy it at any moment.”
Odessa looked at its front cover, but it bore no title.
So she looked at the content of the book, her eyes widening.
“Aria, this is it. This is the book we're looking for.”
Odessa was elated as she scanned the contents of the book, the ancient diagrams and foreign language.
She sat down cross-legged on the dusty floor and began reading.
The more she read, it felt like the words were coming to life, transporting her mind into ancient times.
She felt compelled to read, to continue flipping through the pages.
Odessa's eyes widened as shock registered on her face.
The back cover of the book depicted a striking image of a wolf, its fur glowing with an otherworldly light.
In the background, a starry sky shimmered with a full moon.
As she turned the page, Odessa felt a chill run down her spine, and a sense of wonder filled her.
It was a wolf that looked like Aria, her wolf.
“Why is there a resemblance of you in this book?” Odessa asked her wolf.
“I'm as clueless as you,” Aria replied through their link.
“Let's find out what it says,” she continued curiously.
