The resemblance of the wolf to Odessa was uncanny and frightening.
“I'm as clueless as you,” Aria replied through their link.
“Let's find out what it says,” she continued curiously.
Odessa nodded, her curiosity piqued.
She read the words under the picture aloud.
“The Silver Wolves. An ancient race of werewolves blessed by the Moon Goddess, born with the ancient power of rebirth. They are everlasting.”
Odessa paused at this part, remembering when she was killed by Emma and Lucas.
The liquid was injected into her neck.
Odessa touched her neck.
She felt like she could still feel it as the needle pierced her skin and the foreign liquid flowed through her veins.
“Don't think about it. We could say it never happened since we traveled back to the past,” Aria said, her tone calming.
“I know, but I still cannot get the betrayal out of my mind. What was injected into my neck, though? Poison?” Odessa asked, confused.
The silence from Aria proved she was also clueless.
Anytime she thought about that injection, her neck began to itch.
Odessa shook her head, escaping her imagination and returning to reality.
She stared at the dusty book and continued reading, but paused.
From the middle down to the end of the page, it was torn, depriving her of any knowledge.
“What?”
Odessa almost screamed.
She couldn't believe it.
Just when she was close to finding things about herself.
Odessa stood up, searching around to see if there was a similar book to the one she was holding.
With frustration, Odessa opened the book again and saw where the page was torn.
She was only able to see a few words.
“A key to breaking...”
That's all she saw.
As Odessa continued searching around the library, she shouted in frustration.
“Is there anything I can help you with, ma'am?”
A voice spoke behind Odessa, making her jump in fright and fear.
“Ah!”
She screamed in fright, turning around immediately and finding only a man staring at her, a smile dancing on his lips.
“Is there anything I can help you find? I'm the librarian,” he told Odessa like she was a kid.
Odessa stood straight, coughing immediately from embarrassment.
“I may need your help.”
Her character turned poised and proud.
“Nice way to change your character from grass to grace,” Aria joked.
“Shut up, Aria,” she internally lamented.
“And what book may you like to find?”
He walked closer, dragging a ladder along with him.
“This book.”
She showed him the book, its old texture threatening to break apart.
The librarian looked at the book with interest.
“We do have old books in this library, but never one so old.”
Odessa was getting desperate.
She needed to know what was happening to her.
“At least check around. You may see a newer version of this book,” she pleaded.
The librarian shook his head.
His eyes absolute.
“I know every book in this library. As large as it looks,” he widened his arms for a more dramatic effect to his words, “but I've never seen any book this old.”
“May I see the contents of the book?”
Odessa nodded, walking closer to him and handing it to him.
The librarian collected the book and opened it.
About fifty pages in, his eyes turned from certainty to shock.
Odessa smiled at his expression.
She had just proved him wrong.
He must have mistaken this book while searching.
“Are you joking with me or what?”
The voice of the librarian penetrated Odessa's ears, making her pause.
That was not the reaction she had been expecting.
“The pages are empty,” he stated, making Odessa look at him, perplexed.
What did he say?
Even Aria was shocked by his words.
“That cannot be possible.”
Odessa walked closer to the man to show him the pages she saw.
“I read a lot of information from that book. It even said—”
She trailed off.
As her eyes opened in complete and utter shock.
She stared at the book incredulously.
“This can't be possible.”
She dragged the book away from the librarian's hands with sudden force, shaking her head and rubbing her eyes in wonder to make sure she was not hallucinating.
“But... but there was...”
She stammered, unable to utter a single word.
The librarian pushed his ladder aside, cleaning his clothes.
“Look, lady, you look like a respectable young woman with your expensive clothes. I bet you're a noble, but that doesn't justify acting real crazy. I have things to do.”
The librarian walked away, leaving Odessa in shock.
The man was a member of the pack that didn't recognize her as their Luna.
“Crazy?”
Odessa looked through the pages of the book and saw that it remained empty.
“Maybe we need to take some rest. Things keep getting weird.”
Odessa nodded to Aria's words, dropping the book on the ladder and walking away.
As Odessa walked away from the library, she couldn't shake the feeling of unease.
She thought she was close to something.
The book that held so many secrets moments before was now empty and useless.
“Don't worry, Odessa. We will find out soon.”
Aria eased her mind, making Odessa nod.
The voice of the librarian echoed in her mind.
“You look like a noble, but that doesn't justify that you're acting crazy.”
She couldn't believe such disrespect.
But was he right?
Was she losing her mind?
Was her rebirth, Emma and Lucas's betrayal, all but a dream?
A figment of her imagination?
She walked through the streets, her mind conflicted.
The more she walked, the more lost she felt.
Though the street was filled with people, it was less crowded than what she had seen before.
“Luna!”
A voice called behind her.
As she turned around to face the source of the voice.
“Yes?”
She didn't recognize the man before her.
He must be one of the pack members who recognized her title.
“Greetings, Luna.”
He bowed.
Odessa smiled in appreciation at him.
He continued.
“You are being summoned. The Alpha is back, and he wants to see you immediately.”
Odessa nodded in appreciation at the pack member.
He looked more like a higher-ranking member than an average pack member.
She smiled at him.
“Thank you. I'll head to the office chambers immediately.”
Odessa slowly walked back to the Pack House, wanting to run back to her husband.
She smiled at the thought of their last experience.
Suddenly, the air felt weird.
The tension increased as Odessa looked around.
Odessa's heart skipped a beat.
“What's happening?”
Odessa's instincts kicked in as she sensed a presence watching her from the shadows.
A presence she couldn't quite decipher.
She turned to face the shadows as she squinted her eyes to adjust to the darkness, only to see a bright yellow eye staring back at her.
A growl erupted from behind her.
As she froze in place, she slowly turned around and came face to face with a rogue wolf.
It pounced on her as Odessa screamed.
