Chapter 1
I don't usually come to school early, but mom had to go the the hospital early this morning, and probably wouldn't be back until the early hours of tomorrow morning. I don't mind though, in fact, today I have english as my first class, and I am almost positive that Mrs. Trell would let me escape into the cozy confines of her classroom, which I would gladly take over standing awkwardly in the middle of the school courtyard, unsure of where to sit. Unlike the majority of highschools I read about in my books, my school didn't section itself into never changing cliques. Sure, friends have their groups, but almost everybody knows everyone here, and no one, or group was bullied by another person or group. It's quite nice, actually, except for the fact that I somehow still have no friends in my senior year while everyone else knows everyone else. I blame the fact that I am too socially awkward/scared to actually go up and introduce myself to people. I guess if I wanted to look on the bright side of things I could label myself as the "anime protagonist". I mean, I fit the profile don't I? I stay home unless I have to go to school, I don't have friends but people are nice to me and sometimes I'll exchange quick "Hello"'s to people in the halls, and my life is fairly normal. In fact, my life is probably the most boring thing anyone could hear about. I go home after school only to do homework, eat dinner, then spend the rest of my life watching "Creepy unsolved mysteries" on youtube while eating rice cakes until I scare myself into sleeping into the living room with the kitchen light on. My weekends are even more mundane if possible. Somehow, I managed to get myself infront of Mrs. Trells classroom; as soon as I open the door Mrs. Trell greets me with a smile and small hug, motioning for me to set my bag next to my desk. "Edanne, it's good to see you here so early!" Mrs. Trell speaks as she pulls out a seating chart, "Actually, I have something to ask you," Without giving me time to respond she continues, "We have a new student coming in today, and I was hoping to sit her next to you, maybe you could help her adjust to our school?" "I'd be glad to." I nodded with a polite smile, sitting in my desk and pulling out my sketchbook, absentmindedly doodling over the blank page infront of me. Before I knew it I was immersed into drawing a new character, unaware of the growing amount of students finding their way into the room. I only noticed when the bell rung, and I had to put away my sketchbook. "Class, settle down!" Mrs. Trell shouted after repeating herself several times, "Today we have a new student coming in. I know I don't have to worry about you teens, but I would like to remind you to set a good example, and introduce them to the school kindly." "What's their name?" A student spoke up, Mrs. Trell lectured them on raising their hand before answering. "We'll find out soon enough, in the meantime, I'll take the essays you were assigned on monday." A symphony of groans ringing throughout the room followed by the echoed rustle of paper followed. Class continued as it usually did until a knock was heard on the door, before one of our schools guidence councelors walked in with a sickening smile. "Can I introduce you to our new student here at Callen High School?" Following the guidence councelor came a girl, about 5'8, with long, curly black hair, which was frizzed from the outside air, her skin was a beautiful tan, and she walked with confidence I wish I had. "My name's Evren, though I like to go by Ren." Quiet whispers started as soon as the councelor and Mrs. Trell started talking to Ren, seemingly going over her schedule once more before Mrs. Trell pointed at me and the room silenced, followed by a series of groans accompanied by "Why can't she sit by me?" Her being new wasn't the only reason everyone wanted the chance to sit near her, it was because of her demeanor and look. She oozed a strong sent of confidence, and she had reason to be confident, she was so obviously blessed by the gene goddess. It almost seemed like she walked out of a fantasy book, playing the "demon girl that somehow pulled off the frizzed curly hair look everyone tries to avoid". Ren made her way towards me and I swear my heart began to rollercoaster. I almost felt fustrated because of it, why was I feeling like this? It was normal right? I mean, she could possibly be my first "real" friend here. As soon as Ren sat down, she turned to face me, "I would introduce myself, but I don't see the need to." Oh my god she speaks like the "demon girl that somehow pulled off the frizzed curly hair look" With a chuckle I tried to cover with my hand, I responded with "Can't see why, my name's Edanne, though I like to go by Anne." "Alright Edanne that likes to go by Anne, it seems like you are stuck with me for the majority of the day. I hope I make it atleast semi-interesting for you." Her words somehow dripped with a comforting amount of honey, her voice sweet yet brave and holy guac I could listen to her all day. "Trust me, you won't have any problem with that," I shakily spoke, nearly cringing at my words, "Wait- I didn't mean it like-" Ren burst out into a fit of chuckles, trying not to disrupt the class. "I know I'm attractive but save the flirting until after class," Ren teased with a wink as I quickly turned my head This is why I don't socialize. Did I really just- "I- Class is starting- Focus on class!" I stuttered out, moving myself to face the front of the room. Resisting the urge to rest a hand on my chest as a desperate attempt to calm my heart.
