CHAPTER TWO
Emily's eyes welled up with tears as she stared at the photo. She remembered the day it was taken, the way her heart skipped a beat when he smiled at her, the way his eyes crinkled at the corners. It was a moment of pure joy, one that she had treasured for so long.
But now, as she looked at the photo, Emily felt a pang of realization. She saw the way he was looking at her, the way he was smiling. It wasn't the smile of someone who was genuinely in love. It was the smile of someone who was pretending, who was hiding behind a mask of deceit.
Emily's heart sank as she realized that she had been blind to the truth. She had been so caught up in her own emotions, her own desires, that she had ignored the warning signs. She had ignored the way he would sometimes look at her with a flicker of disdain, the way he would sometimes say things that were just a little too cruel.
As she sat there, staring at the photo, Emily felt a wave of anger wash over her. She was angry at herself for being so blind, for trusting someone who didn't deserve her trust. She was angry at him for deceiving her, for pretending to be something he wasn't.
But most of all, Emily was angry at herself for staying in a relationship that had been toxic from the start. She was angry at herself for not valuing her own worth, for not recognizing that she deserved so much better.
