Becca held her phone in her right hand, squeezing it tightly. She was contemplating calling Jude back. He had left her several missed calls, but she had not been in the right frame of mind to talk to him, so she didn't take his calls. Now, she felt she was ready to do so.
Jude had just gotten dressed to take Agnes to the registry, and was giving himself a last look in the mirror when his phone rang. Startled, he hurried to answer it.
On getting to where the phone was, he saw the dreaded name of Becca glaring at him on the screen.
Jude paused.
He was sure that he had been trying to call her over the past few hours, but the fact that she called him back hit him differently. And at such a time! Did she know that he was headed to register for marriage with Agnes? How timely.
