HARD DECISIONS AND POOR CHOICES

Xander’s pov

That was a long night. I was unconscious due to blood loss but my body was healing slowly. At midnight, the bleeding stopped and I passed out totally. I was awake by morning and on high alert. It seemed the owners of the house didn’t return. So this was a trap well planned, but how did they notice me? I am totally sure they are not wolves. All those investigations proved that they are just humans with a vexing hobby of creating poisons and weapons.

I heard footsteps coming my way and I assumed it was the owners, but there were three more males and they were all wolves, including the girls, which shocked me. That means that all the information I gathered was lies? How can that be? I’ve always been so careful with my investigations. I was brought out of my thoughts by the scent that just hit me like a train.

I almost choked on it and my wolf stirred, the coffee scent was driving me crazy. It can’t be my mate, could it? Whatever they said next almost made me cry. Lia, the woman I thought was a human, is actually a wolf and worse is that she is a white wolf and my mate. Hahaha, who made these bonds, the truth is so much more painful than the poisons induced in my body.

How am I supposed to face her when she knows everything about me? Will she reject me or kill me first before I do? No, I can’t kill my mate, I am not my father. She is everything I loath and she is everything I want and love. I can’t loose her and I won’t loose her. The emotions going through my mind almost made me pass out again, but her sweet voice took me out of my hell.

She was leaving to go cook. I guess I am not the only person unable to think on an empty stomach. The words that were said stumped me fully; three mates? Well, this is new even for me, but weirdly, I don’t mind it at all. I am not even jealous of others. I just envy Dustin for being with her. He has no flaws and she doesn’t hate him as she does me, that lucky dog!

As I kept listening to their conversation, I got a rough idea of who my mate was and Dustin too. Apparently, he is a loving man who respects mates and mate bonds to the core and a firm believer in mates. That is actually true because the man is currently lifting me from the ground and I am sure he wants to take me into the house. He doesn’t struggle much and I’m carried princess style all the way to the house.

What shook me to the core was that after he placed me on a couch, him and his wolf started healing my wolf. I was so shocked to even think, my mind went blank and that’s how I passed out. I don’t know how long I was out for but my Wolf Dominion woke me up. I woke with a stat, trying to remember what happened. I checked on my wounds, which were fully healed and I sighed in relief.

Then I remembered where I was and turned to find six pairs of eyes staring at me with curiosity. I really felt uncomfortable because their wolves were all on high alert. I was worried that they would jump on me and kill me even before I saw my mate and maybe say hi, but my worries were for naught.

Lia just turned around and continued eating as if I did not exist, and the rest followed. “ Come over and eat something first, then we shall talk.” Dustin said as he showed me the empty chair on the left side of Lia. I was dumbfounded because he actually let me sit at the same table as them and even next to my mate. This guy is really a weirdo. Sigh, let me eat first, then I will get answers later.

As I sat down, Dominion was on high alert. He was afraid of doing something to upset our mate who was seated beside me and smelling so nice just like coffee. A plate was passed to me with a mountain of food on it and it was all meat. I just ate to help my wolf gain some strength. I am a vegetarian and I’m proud of it, but I couldn’t say that in front of all these people.

After the meal, everybody sat in the living room, all looking at me with cautious eyes. Then the silence was broken but the words made me and my wolf sad. “ You have to leave and go somewhere far where the council won’t find you. I will tell the elite warriors that you are here so they will start their search for this place.” Lia said, looking me in the eyes. No emotion could be seen and her words were so cold that they froze me where I was seated.

“ Why?” I asked, holding in the tears that were about to spill because this was my mate rejecting me indirectly and it hurt so much not even my mother’s death could top it. “ Because I can’t trust you, you kill white wolves for pleasure and I am a white wolf. Obviously, this won’t work. I can’t live my life knowing that you are always around and your demons will definitely wake up one day. That will be the end of me,” Lia said in a worried tone.

“ Lia, please let’s listen to his side of the story, give him a chance. Maybe just maybe we can work something out where it doesn’t involve losing your mate,” Dustin said, trying to convince Lia or himself. “ If it’s possible please involve Austin Marcus, for your escape plan. It’s better for the both of you to stay as far away as possible from me.” She said with venom dripping from her pretty little mouth. I just wanted to rush to her and kiss her so deeply so that she could swallow those venomous words that were tearing my heart apart.

“ My love but…..” Dustin started saying but was cut halfway. “ No buts, I love you Dustin so much that even Zaya can testify to it, but I can’t bring myself to forget that they both hurt me directly or indirectly.” Lia said in despair and tears were falling from her eyes uncontrollably. Everything she said struck me so deep that even my wolf was whimpering in pain. I just felt like running away because the pain was too much.

Why do I feel like a total loser, like all the white wolves I killed were laughing at me for being mated and rejected by their kind. This must be my punishment. Even the council looking for me isn’t worth it anymore, should I just hand myself in or run away like my mate suggested.

No, I want to experience love no matter what form it comes and Lia is giving me a way out, by running, but why?

“ What if I turn myself in?” I asked cautiously, trying to gauge Lia’s reaction. “ Then you are dead meat, because you will be sentenced to death.” She said with some sarcasm. “ Why would that be a bad thing?” I asked, looking at everybody in the room. A guy scoffed, then said something that shook me to the core. “ You want to die that badly, I don’t want to loose my little sister and I don’t think the werewolf kingdom of America is ready to loose their alpha king.” Rain said, really angered by my answer.

“ What do you mean?” I asked, perplexed by his words. “ Because, dumbass, your bond is not a normal one like other wolves. If one of you dies, the rest will follow, it has something to do with your weird bond.” He said as if thinking of something. “ How do you know so much?” Lia asked and we all nodded, wanting to know more. “ After grandpa told us about multiple mates I found a book at his place about it and I have been reading it for some time.” He said as he looked at Lia, Dustin and I.

Everybody gasped at this revelation, which was scary and out of this world. So, the other option is to run and stay away from my mate. This will kill us much slower but we will still end up dead due to the distance. I just have to run for now, but I will not take that dimwit with me. He has to suffer some harsh words too from our sweet mate and he has to pay for all the pain he caused her.

Lia cleared her throat and took all of us out of our thoughts. “ Since you can’t stay and can’t be found, then you better run and hide well, I won’t mind the distance, the further the better.” I almost choked on the blood that was coming out of my mouth due to pain, her words were literally tearing my heart apart. I know I deserve all the pain that she can cause me, but I didn’t know it would be this painful.

Dominion was whimpering, the pain of rejection was too much for him and he had already passed out twice since Lia began talking.

Dustin was also bleeding but through his nose, which alarmed everybody, even Lia. “ What’s wrong with Dustin? Why is your nose bleeding so much?” Lia asked, shocked and worried. “ I don’t know, but the more you talk the more pain I feel and it’s tearing my heart apart. Pio even just passed out. I think you are not supposed to reject him.” Dustin said in between his heavy breathing while holding his chest.

I freaked out and everybody freaked out. Lia was taking this rather well because it seems she reached a decision and I am worried she is about to hurt us even more. What she said next was like a bucket of ice-cold water was poured on us, the mates. “ If I can’t choose to be with one of you only, then I don’t want to be with any of you.” Lia said with a stone-cold face. “ No love please don’t do it. You promised to never let go.” Dustin begged, kneeling down.

“ I am hurting you just because I can’t accept my other mates, I can’t take it. I have to loose all of you to protect you.” Lia said as she looked at Dustin who was trying so much to hold on and the bleeding got worse for the both of us. I just hope that Austin is passing through the same, the pain, the bleeding, our wolves passed out and feeling the pain of rejection.

“ I, Ophellia Trust, reject you all as my mates.” She finally said it, sealing our fates and then she ran away, shifting into her beautiful white wolf. She never even turned around to look at us, she was so fast that when the rest got out of their stupor she was nowhere on site. Everybody tried to follow her but she hid her scent well, so we just stood in the backyard looking at the large forest.

Dustin was pacing around irritated and annoyed, he was not bleeding anymore and that goes for me too, but our wolves were out cold because of the rejection. “ We have to find her, she just made everything worse by rejecting all of you. You will all loose your wolves and become human, but even after that you might all end up being crazy because of losing your wolves.” Rain said worriedly as he looked at me and Dustin. Sigh, who thought that getting a mate would be this tough and painful. I know what I have to do, but Dustin is our only hope of finding her.
