Jade’s life is a train wreck. Her best friend betrayed her, her boyfriend turned out to be a cheat, and she’s drowning in debt. Just when she thinks things can’t get worse, she meets Julian Middleton; New York’s most eligible billionaire bachelor. Arrogant, elusive, and completely uninterested in love, Julian is the last person Jade expects to come to her rescue. But when an impulsive lie snowballs into an outrageous proposal, Jade finds herself agreeing to a fake marriage that promises to solve both their problems. For Julian, it’s a way to silence his meddling family. For Jade, it’s a chance to rebuild her life. The rules are simple: keep it strictly business, avoid getting attached, and whatever happens, don’t fall in love. But rules were made to be broken, and as sparks fly, the line between fake and real begins to blur. Will their staged romance survive the secrets, scandals, and an unexpected twist from Julian’s past? Or will their deal of convenience leave them both heartbroken?

Jade POV The house was pitch black when I got back from work, but I could hear some shuffling sound from down the hall in my best friend’s room, so that told me she was home. She was probably studying , again. I sighed, turning on the light. That girl was just the opposite of me, not that I don’t like to study, I do, but only when it was necessary, like for a test or an exam. But we fit perfectly as best friends. She was a real gem. Jenna and I moved in together the first year of college, and now we are still living together at our final year. “Jenna?” I called out, but my voice was drowned out by the sound of honking from the cars outside. Our apartment was on a busy street and the only reason I like it here was because of how cheap it was. I couldn’t even complain, I wasn’t born with a silver spoon stuck in my mouth like Jenna was, or I would have been out of here. She had offered several times to move us though, according to her, to a more classy place that could accommodate the sound from her violin lessons she loved to do during the evening hours. What was stopping me from taking that extended olive branch? My pride. I mean, she bought most of the groceries around the house, and she paid higher rent every month, so I wasn’t taking any more from her. If I had to take that from her too, I would wonder what to give in return for week, and I have to be focused right now. I didn’t like owing people, when I might not be able to pay them back, but it was fine that we were best friends anyway. I heard a crash from somewhere and I shook my head, thinking it was probably one of the people around the other apartment being loud again. Ever since my best friend and I moved into this apartment, we had complained to the landlord over and over again about the apartment upstairs, but there was nothing we could do about it. She had turned out to be the landlord’s cousin or something. She was either moving things around in the middle of the night, or shouting at someone about some random man looking at her from a microscope or something. Weird, I know! I had just came home from my evening shift at the coffee shop down 159th street, so my weird neighbor upstairs was the last thing I should be thinking about. I should just check on Jenna and ask her how her day went, then I would have a quick warm bath, if there was any remaining, then I would have a long relationship with my bed. I was lucky to be home by this time though, because I hadn’t anticipated getting off work early today, but one of my coworkers had needed the extra shift. It was just something I should do to be generous every once in a while. As I approached my best friend’s door with my right hand raised up and ready to knock, a sound stopped me. It was a soft moan that came through the crack in her doorway. When I realized what was happening, my mouth dropped open in a soft smile, and before I could make a sound, I covered my mouth with my hand. “Oh my goodness, she has a boy in her room?” I whispered to myself, surprised because I haven’t really seen her interested in a boy recently. Although, Jenna never told me she was having a guy over tonight, not that she had to tell me anything. We might be best friend but we sure have boundaries. I’m just really happy for her, but if she had told me, texted me even, I would have just gone somewhere else after work to tide over time instead of coming home this early like this. Well, at least one of us was getting some. I wasn’t. I do have a boyfriend, but I was not having s*x with him, yet. I just wanted to focus on everything first, then I can start thinking about that. Jenna could afford this, she deserved it even. She was from a rich well to do family, so she had nothing to worry about, so she could have fun. As I started to turn away from the door though, I heard it, and I froze, just like that. “Oh Peter, just like that.” Jenna moaned. Peter! That couldn’t be Peter, my boyfriend right? It wasn’t possible he was the one right? I mean, there were so many Peters in the world and in Brooklyn as well, so it certainly couldn’t be my Peter. I was just been paranoid, or so I thought, then he spoke in response to her request. “Yes, honey. I know what you need.” I swallowed, standing there and afraid to yank the door open because of what I knew I would find. Should I just walk away from them and leave, or should I let them know I saw them? I peered from the crack in the door to see Peter on his knees fishing for my best friend’s orgasm between her legs. I couldn’t see Jenna but I definitely could see her legs held up over Peter’s shoulders with Peter licking away like a cat liking off some milk. My hands pushed the door open and I looked at the both of them as they stared at me wide-eyed. The sound from opening the door had caught their attention, and now they know I’m here. My body shook, but I stood there as if I wasn’t affected, as if I didn’t want to vomit out the content of my stomach from the nausea, or cry out my eyes. Peter was my boyfriend and Jenna was my best friend for goodness sake. Never had I thought they could ever do this to me, in fact, before today, I had always thought that a boyfriend cheating on his girlfriend with her best friend was a cliché. Well, point well proven, thank you very much.
