Rena nodded. "Follow me, Carl," she said.
Emma lay quietly in her bed, like usual. She looked peaceful, and her hair was neatly combed. If no one was told that she was in a vegetative state, it would look like she was just taking a nap.
Carl sat next to her bedside and held her hand. "Long time no see," he said softly before he lowered his head and sighed.
The way Carl spoke saddened everyone in the room.
Carl started to massage the hand that he held, and a few moments later, some tear drops landed on Emma. Carl had started to cry.
Rena exchanged a look of confusion with everyone present. She tried to remember what happened between Carl and her mother before that would cause this reaction.
