Devland is the kind of guy you avoid at a party. Just one look at him, and you know he's bad news. When he was five years of age, his father, the long ruling Alpha, had been cast out by his pack. His beta and many others had decided that he was too cruel, merciless and unjust. They had come together to do what had been unheard of in any other pack in their region. They were going to overthrow the Alpha and banish him from his own pack. With permission from the king, the beta and the rest of the angry pack members approached the Alpha and showed him the declaration that said: 'By the king's rule, Alpha Conor is to be banished and may henceforth be known as a werewolf whom is unfit to be anything more than a simple and lone rogue forevermore.' And with that, former-Alpha Conor left the pack and has not returned, the former-Beta taking his place.
After Devland's father was overthrown, the fear that surrounded the pack had ceased and everything was done fairly and by the rules. But something had broken inside the young pup. His father was forced out of his life. He looked up to his dad. He never saw the cruel and unjust leader everyone had said he was. He never understood how they could just kick him out and leave him with nowhere to go. Devland had stopped going and playing with all of his friends. He would sit by the window and watch as they went on like nothing happened. He became angry towards his pack. His mother began to worry.
The next summer, his mother told him he needed to go outside and make friends. He was hesitant but went out and tried his best. He met Laelynn and Callan and the three pups instantly clicked. Laelynn was so kind to him despite barely knowing him. And of course the two boys got along because they could wrestle to their hearts' content. When Laelynn had to go home for dinner, the boys would sit and just watch her. They were amazed by what they saw in her. They could see that there was something truly amazing about her and they would talk about how great she was and how great she would be one day.
Unfortunately for the three of them, the time had come for them to start school the next year. The last day they played together before their first day had been the best day ever. They played for hours, only stopping for lunch and bathroom breaks. When the sun had begun to set, they were called by their parents to go inside. Laelynn left first, as always, the boys said their goodbyes and Callan ran home. Devland walked his way past both their houses. Seeing though the window of Laelynn's house as he walked by, he saw her and he stopped. He could see her and her father in the living room, having fun and play wrestling. This tore Devland apart. All the anger he had oppressed when he became friends with Laelynn and Callan suddenly came rushing back, but with all of the hatred and resentment aimed towards her. She has no idea what's coming her way, he thought, walking home.
At school the next day, he steered clear of Laelynn and Callan. He had no intention of getting into a conversation with the two. "Devland!" called out Laelynn. His anger immediately emerged, he wanted to punch her in the face. He held back his thoughts and kept walking, not turning around or stopping. "Where is he going?" She asked Callan, who could only shrug in response. They continued to try and get his attention throughout the day to no avail. When school ended, they headed home. They went outside to play together, but Devland stayed inside. This same cycle continued for the next few weeks until Laelynn had decided she'd had enough. She was going to ask him why he had disappeared on them.
