Sebastian’s POV
I manage to hold in a curse as pain shot through my entire body. I over did it during the fight against the orcs and pain had become a part of my day since then. It’s only been three days and I’m still in the same amount of pain since waking up after the fight. I had been trying not to move around much because of the pain but it’s hard when I’m trying to be a productive member of the pack. Falling flat on my ass I curse and can’t find it in me to try to get up again. I should have talked to Mana at least to see if there was anyway to fix this.
“As I thought.”
The voice startled me and I turned to find Fern there. He had his arms crossed over his chest and was giving me a disappointed look.
“I feel like I’m being judged by a parent.” I say because this is honestly what it felt like.
“Good, you’re a fool Sebastian. You overexerted yourself with your magic. It’s an easy fix but if left untreated you risk serious injury. If not for what Sandalphon gave you you’d already be permanently injured.”
I watch as Fern knelt beside me to begin working his own magic over my sore body. I let out a sigh of relief as I felt the pain slowly ebb away. I almost collapse from the relief I was experiencing.
“Next time I’ll speak up.” I swear because this was horrible.
“You’re a grown man, I know you’re not stupid so why didn’t you speak up sooner?” Fern asked, his gaze focused on what he was doing but I’m certain he’d prefer to be glaring at me.
“Because I’m a grown man, I can handle pain. I didn’t think it was so serious.”
Fern made a sound of disapproval.
“This will not happen again. My daughter loves you, if you’re stupidity gets you killed I will find a way to raise you from the dead and make certain you regret your choices.”
My eyes widened but not because of the threat.
“You think Mana loves me?”
Now Fern looked at me and I was beginning to worry if I was really that stupid. I’d never been called as such before.
“She loves both you and Levi.” Fern shook his head and began muttering what sounded a lot like insults about me but I didn’t care.
When he finished he insisted on coming with me as I went to find Mana. I’m almost certain he thinks I’m going to do something else foolish. I pause and decide to change course, I head out to find Samantha. She was in the pack house talking with the wolves that were in training. I heard they were being taught by several of the stronger warriors though Samantha liked to keep up on how things were progressing.
“Samantha, you have some time available today?”
She turned to look at me with a curious look.
“I’m just finishing up here, what did you need?”
“I need to go into town, I want to buy a gift for Mana.”
She gave me a nod before she finished her conversation. Fern had apparently decided I was in good hands because he turned away with a wave of his hand in my direction. Samantha gave me a questioning look as she came with me.
“So what prompted you to get a gift for your girlfriend?”
I shrug.
“Just realized I haven’t really done anything romantic for her recently.”
Samantha made a face before telling me to wait a few moments. She returned with Levi who gave me a look that said I had realized something he should have sooner. With the two wolves shifting and me taking a seat on top of Levi we headed towards town. I had no idea what to get Mana but that was the beauty of seeing what the market had to offer. It was always different and I know something will stand out as perfect for her.
Once in town we began searching the market. Levi kept sniffing the air, good being sold had caught his attention. Samantha nudged him towards a food stand to get him something to eat before he starved. I almost laughed at the sight of Levi protesting as the she-wolf pushed him. I returned to my search only to find myself the sole target of another’s attention. I glance towards the woman watching me intently, she was a succubus it seemed. It was easy to tell with her wings, tail, and horns. She came over to me with a seductive smirk that would get anyone’s attention but I’m a taken man.
“Hello darling,” She purred as she leaned closer to me. “I saw you came here with those wolves. Don’t suppose you could introduce me to that delicious looking she-wolf.”
My eyes widened; I hadn’t been expecting that.
“I can when she’s finished bossing Levi around.”
The succubus smirked.
“Perfect, now what are you looking for handsome?”
“Not sure, I wanted to get my mate something. Any suggestions for a mage?”
The succubus smirked and pulled me along by my arm. I stumbled at first forgetting how much succubus usually touched everyone and anyone. I tried not to stare at her rather large chest that was barely covered by her top. I had heard both incubus and succubus rarely wore much and liked to show off their bodies to attract mates or in most cases, food sources.
“Here you go darling, perfect place for finding gifts for the magically inclined. So how do you know that beauty?”
I look at the talismans and magical amplifiers, it was so rare to see a stand like this because usually they were only found in big cities. No doubt this one was here as the owner was just passing through.
“I’m associated with the pack Samantha belongs to. My name’s Sebastian.” I offer while studying the items available.
“A lovely name darling. You can call me Selene.”
I glance at the succubus. She was beautiful as expected of a succubus but more than that she seemed naturally friendly that had nothing to do with her species. Her silver hair was long and held in a ponytail, her eyes a deep blue that matched her tail and wings, her horns a shade darker than her hair. Her skin was a unique shade of blue green.
“A pleasure to meet you Selene. Which of these two do you think is better?” I ask pointing out the two that drew my attention.
“Oh this one is beautiful, any woman would love to receive this.” She said pointing out the magic amplifier that was designed as a beautiful bracelet.
I pay for it and am pleased by the choice. I had hoped Samantha would be able to give me some insight for getting a gift for Mana but Selene was a great help. When we walked over to where Levi and Samantha were eating they looked at us with mixed expressions. Levi was confused and Samantha was looking Selene over from head to toe.
“Hey guys, this is Selene. She helped me pick out a gift for Mana.”
Selene quickly made herself comfortable beside Samantha and wrapped her arm around the wolf.
“I just had to come meet you but I didn’t want to interrupt your conversation.” Selene said leaning to whisper the words in Samantha’s ear. A full body shiver went through the she-wolf before she turned a hungry look on the succubus. Levi was quick to get to his feet and drag me away.
“Believe me, when she gets that look in her eyes you don’t want to be nearby.” Levi explained before I could ask.
Once we were out of sight of the two he began leading me through the stands. He paused a few times but was quick to move on. He grumbled, no doubt not finding anything that appealed to him. When he did finally stop it was in front of a stand that sold rare fruits that weren’t found in this region. He bought a few dozen and happily took his bag of foods.
“She’ll like them.” I say with Levi nods looking smug at his choice.
We head back without Samantha which I didn’t question only because Levi knew her far better than I did. Knight and Mana were waiting for us likely having seen us coming. Mana frowned slightly at the sight of the things being given to her by two grinning men. I couldn’t help it, I was pleased with my choice and hoped Mana would like it.
“Oh an amplifier and a beautifully designed one to. I’ve never seen these fruits before.” She said looking at the gifts. “Thank you.”
I was happy she liked them but when she gave us both a kiss my face had to be just as red as Levi’s. I didn’t think at my age I’d still be able to blush like this and for a simple kiss no less. Mana seemed oblivious to this fact as she walked away with her gifts whispering to herself about where the fruits might be from. Knight looked at us with a slightly raised brow.
“Did you need something?” Levi asked, recovering first of the two of us.
“I was just going to inform you we will be having a guest arriving in the next few days. A vampire friend of yours.”
Levi gave a nod of acknowledgement and took Knight with him to make preparations. I decided to see if I could be of any use to the warriors training the younger wolves.
