LILA The air in the attic felt thick, like it was pressing down on me. My fingers tightened around the necklace, a cold dread creeping into my chest. I had to get out of here. The walls seemed to close in, each breath becoming harder to take. My heart raced, a frantic rhythm that echoed in my ears. I couldn't ignore what had just happened, couldn't pretend it was nothing. The way the necklace had practically called out to me, the sudden wave of familiarity mixed with fear—it wasn't normal. I wanted to believe I was overreacting, that it was just my imagination running wild. But my heart was tired of being forced down an unbelievable lie. I knew better. Something was very wrong. I took off the necklace and shoved it into my pocket, my hand brushing against the journal I'd found earlier.
