LILA A shiver ran down my spine, but I nodded, not trusting myself to say anything else. I closed the door behind me and crossed the room to the second door, pushing it open. Sure enough, there was a narrow staircase that led down to what looked like a small garden. I half walked, half ran down the steps, trying to stay as quiet as possible. The fresh air hit me when I reached the bottom, and I could see the gate up ahead. Relief flooded through me when I noticed it was already open. I slipped through it and stepped out onto the street. Parked in the corner, hidden in the shadows of a towering tree, was Callum's car. I recognized it immediately and walked over, feeling a sense of safety wash over me. The driver stepped out and opened the door for me, a small, polite smile on his face.
