Chapter One
"What's his condition?" "Vegetative, he's in a vegetative state." "We'd have more than enough time to carry out our job effectively." "Affirmative." "Inject him with another dose, we need to be extra careful. These creatures are unpredictable." "Yes." The nurse took an injection and took the arm of the young man lying unconscious on the hospital bed, she squinted her eyes to be able to locate his vein and when she did; she infused the contents into his body, the man jerked for a second, she almost flinched but relaxed seeing that it was a momentary reflex. Her job was done, all that was left was to hand over to the dissecting team, they would cut open the specimen and proceed with their experiment, she glanced at him one more time and felt a tinge of pity for the young man, he looked pale and lifeless, she had dedicated her whole life to helping humanity but she was left with no choice for he was a threat to what she believed in and fought for. "He's all yours, my shift is over." The nurse announced. The stoned face man nodded his head in acknowledgment and scoffed as he glanced at the specimen. He scrutinized his nose as if a stench was invading his nostrils but the immobile specimen of theirs lay still on the hospital bed, he waved his hands and two able-bodied men who wore matching uniforms walked in immediately. "Take it to the table." The man ordered. The men nodded and began to bundle the young man from the bed and transferred him to a large table, the table shook slightly as they dumped the weight on it. "Bloody strong creature." The man cursed under his breath. He wondered what made the creature in front of him a better person than he was in terms of strength, he secretly envied his physique which was far off better than his, his bones were almost visible as they threatened to rip their way out of what remained of his skin which had seen better days. Though he had been operated on severally and starved for weeks yet his skin still had an alluring glow to it, his face was well chiseled and though he could easily be passed off as dead yet he looked heavenly, how could a human be that attractive even in a helpless condition. The man eyed the figure in front of him both jealously and disdainfully, if he had his way; the bastard would have long been gone about then again; he wasn't in power, five people walked into the brightly lit room, three males and two female, just a glance at them were enough to deduce that they weren't just normal people. Their aura was that of no emotions and judging from their outfit; they were prepared for surgery. "Marcus, are all the necessary preparations made?" A grumpy voice questioned. Marcus looked at the speaker with both respect and fear in his eyes, he was Devin; the head surgeon, and he was known to show no mercy to whoever crossed him. "Yes," Marcus replied briefly. "Okay, let's begin then," Devin said briefly. His accomplices nodded in agreement and the next few minutes were spent preparing the tools needed, one would think they were to dissect a wild animal with the gigantic blades they brought but it was for the helpless frame lying in front of their peering eyes. Devin wore a pair of surgical gloves and stopped a nurse who was trying to inject the specimen. "What's in that syringe?" Devin questioned. "Midazolam." The nurse replied. "Midazolam?" "Yes, for total sleepiness and partial loss of memory for the patient." Devin chuckled and laughed mirthlessly, the nurse was confused as almost everyone sneered at her, how was she to know what she did wrong? After all, she was a new staff there, though she had worked there for a decade and a half yet she had never been allowed to work hand in hand with such dignitaries, this aspect of the organization was top-secret and not everyone was allowed. Devin ceased laughing and stared daggers at her. "I know what Midazolam means, don't administer that to the specimen but propofol, pentobarbital, opioid, thiopental, adjuvants, and BDZ instead." The woman nodded her head. "Dose?" She asked briefly. "The whole bottle," Devin replied dismissively. The woman did as she was told and their specimen didn't as much as flinch, it was time to get down to the real business hence they dimmed the light and only switched on the overhead lamp which focused directly on the table, they had better facilities but would rather not waste it on one specimen alone, after all; they had more in store. Facemasks on, gloves worn and dissecting sets ready; the team of five got down to work and a few meters away were a few people who stood as guards, at the corner of the room were CCTV cameras installed which watched their every move. Devin ruthlessly slit the lower abdomen of the specimen open, blood still gushed out of the open wound which was quite strange as the body had turned cold already, Devin reached into the open flesh but it healed and closed up. "That's new," Devin muttered. "Normally it wouldn't be that quick for the wounds to close up." He continued. He sighed and continued to cut open the flesh, and this time; deeper, suddenly he felt a cold sensation on his right palm, he lifted his head to see the specimen holding his hands, and Devin instantly flinched and jumped backward. The alarms went off and blared indicating that a situation had arisen, in the blink of an eye, what was a specimen in front of them a few seconds ago came alive, there were few strands left on his head and he looked like a zombie as blood still seeped out of his freshly open wound, gunshots were fired and bullets flew around the room. "Emergency at Zone four!"
