Chapter 3

593 Words
Elise couldn’t help but feel a tiny bit smug when she entered the office the next day. After everything, after all the angry stares and rude comments Adam had thrown her way, he still wanted to kiss her. He still wanted her that close. But Elise had given in as well. She had kissed him back, had let him pull her over the desk and touch her waist while she just moaned into his mouth. It was a little humiliating, if she was being honest… But Adam was so big and tall and handsome that she couldn’t help but give in. Still, she definitely felt like she had the upper hand. He kissed her, after all. He started it.             When she pushed open her office door and saw Adam at her desk, she smiled at him.  “Good morning, Adam,” she said sweetly. “I hope we’re not going to have a repeat of yesterday.”             Adam kept his eyes on the computer screen, his fingers still typing away at the keyboard. “Huh? What are you talking about?”             “You know. That kiss. You seemed a little antsy. You a little sexually frustrated or something?” she asked with a giggle, sliding into the chair.             “What kiss?”             Elise rolled her eyes. “Oh, please. You’re gonna act like it didn’t happen.”             “Like what didn’t happen?”             “You kissed me, Adam. Right here in this office. You kissed me.”             “I don’t remember it happening that way,” Adam said with a cocky laugh. “From what I recall, it was you who kissed me. And no offence, Elise, but you came across as a little desperate.”             She slowly shook her head at him. He sounded so goddamn ridiculous. Did he really think he could turn it all around and make her seem like the one who started it? “You must have memory issues, Adam.”             “Whatever. Either way, I kinda forgot about that. You still thinking about it? Did you go to bed last night thinking about kissing me or something?” chuckled Adam. He still wasn’t looking at Elise. His ocean like eyes were still stuck on the computer screen.             “Why would I think about it? You were the one who kissed me. You were the one who started it!”             “Look, all I’m saying is that you’re the one who’s sitting here talking about it. In fact, it’s the first thing you talked about when you saw me. If I had to guess, you’re the one who’s a lot more invested in the kiss then I am. Maybe you care about it more than I do… In fact, I’m pretty sure you do.” Adam stood up at that, holding a couple of files that he soon tucked under his arm. He walked past Elise, sending her a wink and a smile before he exited the room.             Then she slumped down in her chair. There she was, thinking she had all the power, thinking she could still control some part of Adam, but it seemed like he had no interest in the kiss. Despite all the passion she had felt last night, none of it lingered in the office the next morning.             Elise had felt something she was sure she had never, ever felt: rejection.
