THIS STORY WILL NOT BE COMPLETED.

Sampson Sterling is the Alpha of the Stone Rivers Pack. He lost his mate in a war with an enemy. So he definitely didn't expect to find his second chance mate when he went to dinner for his thirty-fifth birthday...or the fact that she is young enough to be his daughter. So what happens when he explores the relationship and finds out who her adoptive parents are?

Prologue
Sampson's POV 'Anyone have eyes on them?' I linked as I ran around the pack grounds. I quickly took care of a wolf as my Beta, Omar linked me back. 'They ran around the side last I saw' he said. 'On it' I replied as I took off towards the back of the house. Just as I reached the back I saw a large fire and could smell their scents in it; I ran closer just to be sure. Thankfully I could see two bodies being burnt to a crisp on the ground and the enemies Alpha and Luna's scent permeated all around. They were truly gone. I ran back to the front of the pack house and almost all of the enemy wolves from Dark River were dead. There were still a few, probably trying to now avenge the death of their Alpha and Luna. I was about to assist Edison, the mate of my Gamma, when I felt her death. I immediately stopped in my tracks and searched for her. Once I saw the wolf's muzzle dripping with Skye's blood I lost it. Rage completely took over and I stopped at nothing to kill that wolf. Once they were dead I shifted back and cradled my mate in my arms. Skye's beautiful blue eyes were empty but I still stared into them. Tears freely flowed down my cheeks as I placed one last kiss on her cold lips. I placed my hand over her eyes and gently shut them as our foreheads touched. I don't know whose but someone placed a hand on my shoulder, I'm guessing to try and offer some comfort. I just lifted my head and let out an agonizing scream however it wasn't a scream. It sounded like a zombie alert. I looked around confused, face still wet from crying. I tried to scream again but the same sound came out. 'Sampson' I heard a voice say. Whoever had said it, they weren't next to me or anything. It was like the voice completely surrounded me. 'Sampson' it said again, I just kept looking around trying to find it's origin. 'SAMPSON!' it yelled and I jolted awake. I stared at the ceiling breathing heavily at the nightmare. I slapped my hand aimlessly around my nightstand to shut off my alarm, the zombie alert sound that had came out of my mouth. I sat up and rubbed my face feeling the tears still fresh on my face. I sighed as my legs moved to the floor and I rested my head on my hands. 'Sampson wake the hell up!' My Gamma Caroline linked to me. 'Sorry I'm up' I replied to her. I got off the bed and went to get dressed for training. Normally I would shower and grab some breakfast with my friends before we all went out for training. However today was always the exception, it was the anniversary of her death. I got to the training yard and saw all of our warriors warming up. They gave their head nods to me as I passed and I returned the gesture. I finally made it to the front where my ranked members were training. My Beta, Omar, was sparring with his wife and mate Eva. My Gamma, Caroline, was having a plank contest with her mate Edison. "I'm so going to last longer than you" I heard Edison say confidently as I approached. "Well that will be a first" Caroline said sarcastically. One of our warriors near by choked on his water while Eva and Omar laughed hysterically. I couldn't help the smile that grew on my face as well. Edison blushed but held onto his form and stayed in his plank. Once I reached my friends they all stood up. "Morning Sam" Evan said pulling me into a tight hug. I gladly returned it and sighed. "Morning" I said before giving them all a hug. I turned to the rest of our warriors as they gathered around for the session to officially begin. "Good morning warriors" I said with my alpha voice. "Good morning Alpha" they all responded. "Thank you for warming up before I got here. We all know what today is" I said looking at each face. They all knew they would be pushed harder than ever today. That's how it always was on the anniversary. "Let's start with ten laps around the land perimeter. Five in human form, then five in wolf form" I instructed then turned and started my run. I could her thunderous feet behind me as they followed suit. By the time we reached our fifth lap in human form my lungs were starting to burn. However I kept pushing through, this pain was nothing in comparison. Once we reached the training grounds we all quickly shifted into our wolf forms and started running again. This section of laps went faster because of our wolves. When we got to the front of the pack house we all shifted back and got dressed again. "Five minute water break" I called out to everyone. With swift nods they adjourned to where ever they left their bottles. Once the five minutes were up we all gathered again for the next phase. "Okay half of you will go with Omar and Eva for sparring, the other half will go with Caroline and Edison for strength training" I said. Everyone got into their groups and went to their destinations. I joined with Omar and Eva's group first because I really felt the need to punch something. We all did our training and then switched groups so everyone had a fair amount of everything. Then after the time was up we repeated the ten laps around the pack lands. I had noticed a couple of the warriors falling behind and slowed my pace to match them. While everyone else ran ahead of me I stayed with them. "You guys can do this" I encouraged them. They didn't respond just simply nodded their heads and pushed themselves a little more. "That's it we're almost through" I continued. When we all shifted I continued to stay with them as well. We were only as strong as our weakest link. Finally training was complete as we all went our separate ways. I went to my room and quickly showered before getting ready for my day. Everyone knew not to link me today. I drove to my first stop of the day, where my mate and I had first met. I would just sit there and people watch mostly as well as reminisce. That's what I did at all of our spots. Finally I was on my way to the grocery store to pick up Skye's favorite bag of chips and soda. I walked into the store and browsed the aisles. I hated the new lay out of the store. It had been rearranged a couple of months ago and I didn't come here enough to remember it. "Move your ass Odessa" I heard an angry voice say somewhere in the store. I had finally found the correct aisle and stood there searching for the right bag. "You are so pathetic" I heard a male voice say in the next aisle over. I didn't really pay much attention though as I continued looking. "I'm sorry Daddy" I heard a little voice say. Okay now I was paying a little more attention. I found the bag and grabbed one before making my way down the aisle. "Get that damn jar would you" I heard the man say in an angry voice. He was also slurring his words, great he was drunk. I just made it around the corner when I heard the jar break. "Look what you f*****g did!" The man said loudly then I heard it. A loud smack followed by the little girls cries, I was there in an instant. The little girl was on the ground with a hand clutching her cheek, fat tears rolling down her chubby little cheeks. She had fallen amidst the broken jar of cherries on the ground and I could smell a little blood. The mans head snapped in my direction. "What the f**k are you looking at?" He asked. I didn't respond though, I simply bent down to the little girl to calm her. "It's okay sweetie" I said with a kind smile and moved her hair away from her face.  The little girl flinched but when she saw I didn't mean her any harm she put her hand down. Her cheek was bright red and it seemed like there might be a bruise later. "Get away from my daughter!" The man yelled and tried to pulled me away. I didn't even look at him, just shoved him hard and he stumbled back into the shelves. I looked at the little girl who was wearing a sweater despite the hot weather outside. "I'm not going to let him hurt you okay" I said in a gentle voice. She just nodded her head and I picked her up. She had to be around five years old, this poor child. "What's your name?" I asked her. "Odessa" She whispered quietly and I smiled. "Nice to meet you, I'm Sampson" I said. Her tiny head rested on my shoulder, she's smelled like peaches and cream. I gripped her fathers arm tightly and pulled him up so I could drag him to the front of the store. "Excuse me can you call the cops please? This piece of" I started to say but side eyed the little girl in my arms "Of uh doodie slapped his daughter" I said. The woman's eyes bulged before glaring at the man. "Absolutely" She responded before making the call. Luckily there was some store security there so they were able to restrain the man. Soon enough the cops got there and took the little girl from my arms. I was in line to pay for my items and picked up a little stuffed wolf toy for the girl. When I got outside the police were putting the dad in the back of their arm while the little girl was in a car seat in a different car. I approached the social worker who was there. "Are you Mr. Sterling?" She asked me and I nodded my head. "Well it seems like there's a history of abuse. Her arms are covered with bruises in the various stages of healing" The social worker said. "What's going to happen to her?" I asked nodding my head to Odessa. "Well it seems she doesn't have any family left. Her mother passed away during child birth and no aunts or uncles. Grandparents are gone so she'll be put into the foster care system" The social worker explained. "Okay well you have my phone number if you have anymore questions" I said. "Would it be okay if I gave her this?" I asked pulling out the wolf from my shopping bag. The woman smile and nodded her head. "Yes I think that would be wonderful" She said. I walked over to the back seat and opened the door. Odessa was sleeping soundly, her tiny mouth open and snores coming out. She was so adorable. I gently lifted her arm and put the wolf there for her. She instantly snuggled it closer and the snoring stopped. I know she wasn't a wolf but I lifted my eyes towards the sky and said a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess to watch over her. Once I was free to go I went to my mates grave and recounted the story to her while I ate her favorite candy and drank her favorite soda. Once night fall hit I let my wolf, Artemis, out so he could spend time with our mate as well. Just like every year he let out a pain filled howl and settled in right next to her grave resting his head on top as he fell asleep.
