Chapter 24 Steigan held the lantern high trying to cast light as far down the hallway as he could. He stayed in the main tunnel, didn't take any of the ways branching off, and soon reached the end which had a short stone staircase leading up. A heavy latch locked the door and Steigan bore his whole weight on it to c***k it open. The hinges resisted opening, but gave way. Peering around the edge of the door, Steigan found himself alone in the basement of what looked to be a tavern. Coming out, he pushed the door closed. “Just like being home at Sim's,” he said, trying to comfort himself. Steigan moved a couple crates in front of the door, hoping it would be a good long time before someone noticed that it had been opened.
