CHAPTER 2

Lara waved her sister goodbye, but Sebastian didn't acknowledge her presence anymore, his frown deepening. Perhaps Elena's ring finger left him flabbergasted. Elena hurried out of the hospital, pulling out her phone to call Lucius and share the good news. Each attempt went unanswered. She reminded herself of his important meeting, but her excitement made it hard to wait. She wanted the pack to hear the news and solidify her position as the true Luna. Her phone buzzed with a notification. A message from Chloe explained that Lucius was busy in his meeting and couldn't take her call. Elena sighed, feeling a mix of excitement and frustration. She opened the car door, but a sharp pain suddenly pierced her heart. She gasped, clutching her chest, feeling the mate connection with Lucius flaring painfully. "Ma'am, are you alright?" Anna, her PA, rushed to her side, concern etched on her face. Elena's knees buckled, and she fell to the ground. People passing by stared, murmuring in confusion. The pain was intense, a bad omen she couldn't ignore. "We need to go to my husband's office. Now!" she demanded, struggling to her feet with Anna's help. The drive was agonizing. Elena clutched her chest, the pain growing worse. She felt Kira, her wolf, urging her to reach Lucius. Something was terribly wrong. They finally arrived, and Elena wasted no time, storming into the building with Anna following closely. Lucius' secretary tried to intercept her. "Miss Elena, Mr. Lucius is in an important meeting—" Ignoring her, Elena marched toward Lucius' office. She heard a familiar moaning sound just behind the door. Her heart pounded as she twisted the doorknob, revealing a painful and disgusting scene. Lucius was with Chloe, her best friend, in an intimate act that made Elena's blood boil. Lucius, seated on his chair, looked up in panic as Chloe turned to see Elena. They scrambled to gather their scattered clothes. "Lu-Lucius, ho-how could you?" Elena's voice trembled with disbelief and pain. Her heart felt like it was being ripped apart, but Lucius didn't share her remorse. Instead, he turned aggressive and defensive. "Who let you in here? What the f**k are you doing here?" he barked, his face contorted with anger. Elena's disgust deepened. Was he angry with her for catching him with Chloe? The betrayal cut deep, but his reaction made it worse. "Are you actually angry with me because I caught you with my best friend? How dare you!" she screamed, her voice shaking with fury and pain. "How dare who? He is the alpha and you are a failed Luna." Chloe's voice was venomous. "Let me just say it since no one wants to hurt your feelings—you are a failure as a woman and as a Luna. What kind of wife can't give her husband an heir? The whole pack talks behind Lucius' back, all because of your barren womb. They call you names like 'cursed omega' and 'epitome of failure.' I agree with them. You are probably nature's greatest mistake. The goddess should never have allowed your mom to birth you." Elena felt as if her heart was being torn apart. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she clenched her fists, refusing to let Chloe see her break down. "You shouldn't have come here, Elena. You should have stayed at your workplace or at home, as usual. Why did you visit me now, of all times?" Lucius sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. "You should just have behaved like the pretty little doll that you are. It's disgusting to see your face at times. A worthless Luna who can't even do something as basic as producing me an heir. It's almost as if the moon goddess cursed me with your barrenness, and I will not have that stain on my name as the alpha of the Crimson Fang!" His words were cruel, cutting deep into her soul. Chloe giggled cruelly, adding, "And that's why he needed someone to give him an heir. It's truly pathetic if you think he ever truly loved you. He has repeatedly told me how boring you are in bed." Her words plunged into Elena's heart like daggers. Rage and sorrow mingled within her, making her voice tremble as she spoke. "Lucius, how could you do this? What about our bond? The mate connection we share? The love betwee—" "The love we shared died the moment I discovered you were barren," Lucius interrupted, his voice cold and unfeeling. "The moon cursed me with a useless wretch like you, and it's disgusting to think I had any connection to you to begin with. The only good thing I'll thank you for is giving me your replacement." He grabbed Chloe's waist, pulling her close with a cruel smile. "Hear that, Elena? You're useless and done for. You can't blame the alpha of the Crimson Fang for wanting someone better. I mean, who could ever want you?" Chloe added with another mocking giggle. Elena's pain transformed into a burning desire for revenge. She refused to let them have the last laugh. Her mind raced, formulating a plan. "You know what, Chloe? If you want Lucius, you can keep him. I wouldn't want a man who doesn't know my deepest secret." Lucius narrowed his eyes. "Know what?" Elena smiled bitterly. "How terrible you are at lovemaking. You're quite horrible. I had to fake orgasms to satisfy your ego. I always had to find pleasure elsewhere. I was so relieved when I had my first o****m, thanks to that man." Lucius' face contorted with rage. Chloe, sensing danger, tried to intervene. "She's lying, Lucius. I have known Elena my whole life. She isn't capable of doing such things. She's probably just saying it to provoke you." Elena smirked, adding more fuel to the fire. "Do you know Sebastian Ashford? Tall man, about 6ft, with wavy black hair and more muscular than you—" "QUIET!!!!" Lucius roared, his eyes flashing yellow. He leaped towards Elena, closing the distance between them in an instant. Elena hadn't anticipated this reaction. She was playing a harmless joke, but it had turned into something serious. "How the f**k does a good-for-nothing like you know the alpha of one of the five leading families in the country?" Lucius demanded, his tone deadly. Elena squeaked like a mouse, scrambling to find an answer. "Ho-hospital," she managed to say, confessing the truth. Lucius sneered, releasing his chokehold. Elena fell to the ground, coughing and gasping for air. "We met in Ashford Hospital," she continued, realizing that the hospital bore his name and quickly took advantage of this to provoke Lucius further. "He's the owner of Ashford Hospital. I went to meet my sister one time and we met. He took an interest in me, and from then, we've been secret lovers." "You f*****g w***e!" Lucius snarled. "I can't believe this. So, you were cheating on me the whole time." The hypocrisy of his statement made Elena's blood boil. "And you were cheating first! You have no right to accuse me of anything." Lucius' eyes flickered with dangerous intent. "And that f*****g bastard, Sebastian. I will kill him. I will rip out his guts and feed them to my hounds. This is war. He just declared war on my pride, and he will pay for it." "No, Lucius... your fight is with me, not Sebastian—" Elena began, but a death glare from Lucius silenced her. "Trying to protect your new lover won't save him or you. Before, I was going to reject you once you found out about me and Chloe, but now, I am going to keep you around as my pet. You may reject me, but I will never accept it." Elena's gut churned. What had she done? She had dragged an innocent man into this conflict, and now he was in grave danger. Lucius was a dangerous man who wouldn't stop until he got what he wanted. "Let's go, Chloe. I have an enemy to hunt," Lucius said, leaving Elena on the ground in despair and sorrow. Elena contemplated her decision. She could tell Lucius the truth, that it was all a lie, but they would only mock her further. She could tell him about the baby, but she feared he would take her child and raise it with Chloe. Desperation and fear gripped her as she tried to think of a way out. Kira, Elena's wolf, disappeared from her consciousness. She couldn't feel her wolf anymore, leaving her feeling naked and exposed, as if abandoned and left to die. In a desperate attempt, Elena took out her phone and dialed a number. It rang twice before the receiver answered, but there was no voice on the other end. "Dad, are you there?" Elena said, her voice whimpering and tears streaming down her face. "Yes, dear. Is there something wrong?" The voice on the other end was warm and comforting. Elena's sobs grew louder as she tried to speak. "Dad, I need your help. It's Lucius. He's... he's betrayed me." "What? What do you mean, betrayed you? Calm down, Elena. Tell me everything," her father's voice was filled with concern and urgency. Elena took a deep breath, trying to steady her voice. "I found him with Chloe. They've been... they've been seeing each other behind my back." She sniffed. Her father sighed heavily on the other end. "Elena, you need to leave there. Come home. We'll figure this out together. Don't worry about Lucius. He won't be able to touch you once you're here." "I... I can't leave, Dad. Not yet. I'm pregnant. And I can't let Lucius take my baby," Elena said, her voice trembling. "Pregnant? Oh, Elena. This changes everything. You need to stay safe for the sake of your child. Come home, and we'll protect you both," her father urged. Elena nodded, though her father couldn't see it. "Okay, Dad. I'll come home. Thank you and Da......Dad, I love you." She whispered softly "I love you too sweetie." He said to her warmly. She ended the call, feeling a mix of relief and fear. She needed to get out of there, to protect her baby and herself.
