When Elena Carter’s father vanishes after stealing from the most feared man in the criminal world, she becomes the debt he leaves behind.

Lucien Devereaux isn’t just a mafia king. He’s the invisible ruler of an empire built on power, blood, and absolute loyalty. Men fear his name, governments avoid crossing him, and betrayal is answered with death. They call him The Wolf because once he marks his prey, there is no escape.

Elena refuses to become anyone’s possession. Fierce, stubborn, and unwilling to bow, she challenges the only man who has never been told “no.” What begins as a dangerous debt soon becomes a battle of wills, where every glance is a challenge, every touch is a temptation, and every secret threatens to destroy them both.

As rival syndicates rise, old enemies return, and buried family secrets come to light, Elena discovers that Lucien’s empire is built on lies far darker than she imagined. Together, they are forced into a war where trust is more dangerous than bullets, love is the greatest weakness, and every choice comes with a deadly price.

But in a world where crowns are stained with blood and loyalty is bought with sacrifice, even kings can fall.

Lucien has spent his entire life conquering cities, crushing enemies, and ruling the underworld without mercy. Yet the one battle he never expected to fight is for the heart of the woman who was never meant to belong to him.

With unforgettable twists, relentless action, sizzling chemistry, and breathtaking betrayals, The Wolf Who Owned the Underworld is a gripping dark mafia romance about power, obsession, redemption, and a love fierce enough to shake an empire.

Because sometimes the most dangerous monster isn’t the one who rules the underworld…

The King Doesn’t Knock
The rain fell in relentless sheets, turning the city’s glittering skyline into a blur of silver and black. Midnight had always belonged to dangerous men, and tonight was no different. Elena Carter clutched the envelope against her chest as she hurried through the empty hallway of the old apartment building. Inside was the eviction notice she had been trying to ignore for weeks. Her father’s debts had finally caught up with her, and no amount of overtime at the café could erase numbers that large. She reached her apartment door with trembling fingers. A strange silence greeted her. The lock was already broken. Her heartbeat quickened. Someone was inside. Every instinct screamed at her to run, but this was all she had left. Swallowing her fear, she pushed the door open. The lights flickered. Three men in black suits stood in her living room as though they owned it. One searched through a cabinet. Another leaned lazily against the wall. The third watched the doorway without expression. None of them looked surprised to see her. “What do you want?” Elena demanded, trying to keep her voice steady. No one answered. Instead, the men stepped aside. Heavy footsteps echoed across the wooden floor. Slow. Measured. Confident. A tall man emerged from the shadows, dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit. His coat was speckled with raindrops, and silver wolf cufflinks glinted beneath the dim light. His sharp jaw carried the faint shadow of a beard, and his icy gray eyes swept over Elena with the calm certainty of someone who had never heard the word “no.” He didn’t ask for permission to enter. He didn’t introduce himself. He simply looked around the apartment before his gaze settled on her. “So,” he said in a deep, controlled voice, “you’re Marcus Carter’s daughter.” Elena straightened her shoulders. “If you’re here about my father, he’s gone.” “I know.” His answer was immediate. “He ran.” A chill crawled down her spine. “Then leave.” The corners of his lips lifted into something that wasn’t quite a smile. “I don’t leave empty-handed.” She folded her arms despite the fear tightening her chest. “I don’t owe you anything.” The room fell silent. One of the men behind him let out a quiet laugh, as though she’d said something amusing. The stranger took one slow step closer. Then another. Until only a breath separated them. “You’ve mistaken me for someone who negotiates.” His voice was calm. That made it worse. “My name is Lucien Devereaux.” The name hit her like a gunshot. Every whispered story she’d ever heard came rushing back. The invisible king of the underworld. The man who controlled cities without ever running for office. The wolf no one survived betraying. She forced herself not to look away. “What do you want from me?” Lucien’s gaze lingered on the eviction notice still clutched in her hand. Then he smiled. Cold. Patient. Predatory. “Everything your father couldn’t pay.” Behind him, one of his men quietly closed the apartment door with a soft click. The sound echoed like the beginning of a prison sentence. The click of the lock echoed through the apartment. Elena’s fingers tightened around the crumpled eviction notice until the paper nearly tore. Every instinct told her to run, to scream, to do anything except stand there in front of the man whose name had become a warning whispered across the city. Lucien Devereaux. The Wolf. The King who didn’t knock. She forced herself to meet his gaze. “My father made his own choices,” she said, her voice steadier than she felt. “I had nothing to do with them.” Lucien studied her in silence. His expression revealed nothing, yet she felt as though he could read every thought racing through her mind. “You’ve been working three jobs,” he said. Her breath caught. “You leave for the café before sunrise. You tutor college students in the afternoon. You spend your evenings at the bookstore three streets away.” Elena’s pulse hammered. “How do you know that?” “I make it my business to know.” A chill crawled down her spine. He knew where she worked. He knew her schedule. What else did he know? “You’ve been watching me?” “No.” His voice remained calm. “I had you watched.” The casual way he admitted it made her stomach twist. She took a step backward. “You have no right.” A faint smile touched his lips. “Rights are a luxury, Miss Carter. Power is what matters.” Silence settled over the room. Outside, thunder rolled across the sky. Elena glanced toward the window, calculating the distance. Four floors down. No fire escape within reach. The front door was blocked by three armed men. There was no escape. Lucien noticed the movement of her eyes. “Don’t.” It was a single word. Not loud. Not threatening. Yet it rooted her to the floor. “I wasn’t running,” she lied. “No?” He tilted his head slightly. “I’ve seen enough fear to recognize it.” “I’m not afraid of you.” One of the guards chuckled. Lucien raised a hand without looking away from Elena. The room fell silent instantly. Even his men obeyed him without hesitation. “You’re either brave,” he murmured, “or an excellent liar.” “I’m just tired.” For the first time, something flickered in his eyes. Not sympathy. Recognition. He glanced around the tiny apartment. The peeling wallpaper. The worn-out couch. The stack of overdue bills on the table. The empty refrigerator standing slightly open. “So,” he said quietly, “this is what Marcus Carter left behind.” “My father left years ago.” “But he remembered you when he borrowed my money.” Elena’s jaw clenched. “I told you, I don’t know anything about his business.” “I’m aware.” “Then why are you here?” Lucien walked slowly toward the kitchen counter, picking up a framed photograph. It showed Elena at sixteen, standing beside a smiling woman with warm eyes. Her mother. His gaze lingered on the picture for a moment before he placed it back exactly where he had found it. “Your mother died six years ago.” Elena froze. “You really do know everything.” “I know enough.” The room grew unbearably quiet. Finally, Lucien reached into the inside pocket of his coat. Elena stiffened, expecting a gun. Instead, he placed a thin black folder on the coffee table. “What’s that?” “Your father’s debt.” She hesitated before opening it. The first page listed an amount so large her vision blurred. “This… this has to be wrong.” “It isn’t.” “There aren’t enough lifetimes to earn this much.” “I know.” She looked up sharply. “So why show me?” “Because your father signed something.” Lucien turned the final page toward her. His signature was unmistakable. Below it were a few handwritten lines. If repayment cannot be made, collateral shall be claimed. Her name was written beneath it. Elena stared at the page. “No.” Her voice barely escaped. “No… he couldn’t.” “He did.” “He can’t offer me like property!” Lucien’s expression remained unreadable. “He already did.” Anger replaced fear. She ripped the page from the folder and tore it in half. Then again. And again. The pieces fluttered onto the floor. “No piece of paper decides my life.” For a heartbeat, no one moved. One of the guards instinctively reached for the weapon beneath his jacket. Lucien lifted two fingers. The guard stopped immediately. The Wolf’s gaze remained fixed on Elena. Then, to everyone’s surprise… He smiled. Not because she had obeyed him. Because she hadn’t. “Interesting,” he said softly. “What is?” “You still think you have a choice.” Before Elena could answer, another suited man hurried into the apartment. “Boss.” Lucien turned. The newcomer lowered his voice. “We found Marcus Carter.” The room seemed to stop breathing. Elena’s heart leaped into her throat. Her father was alive. Lucien slipped on a pair of black leather gloves. “Good.” His tone was frighteningly calm. “Bring him to the warehouse.” The messenger nodded. “And the daughter?” he asked. Lucien looked back at Elena, his silver-gray eyes unreadable. “She comes too.” Elena’s face drained of color. “I am not going anywhere with you.” Lucien walked past her toward the door. As one of his men opened it, he paused without turning around. “I wasn’t asking.” He stepped into the storm. His men waited for her to follow. For the first time in her life, Elena realized the stories had been wrong. The Wolf didn’t need to threaten people. He simply expected the world to obey.
