Chapter four : Messing with the Boss' Life

1819 Words
Narrator's POV Who would've thought that a thief could possibly wake Mr. Wilder's senses up? The man who never once had a care about anyone started to worry about a certain person's life, not to mention, a person who never knew about the words mercy and pity. He was holding the frame from where his wedding picture was attached, and had his eyes locked on his deceased wife. What just happened to him seemed like a premonition. Because just like how he and that unknown thief crossed paths, he and his ex-wife met in that kind of situation. He was on a mission and an undercover agent who was ordered to spy on a syndicate, but then an operation from where a Police Inspector named Briana Lockheart was assigned, happened to cross paths with him. Ms. Lockheart thought that Mr. Wilder was a suspect for robbery because he was simply not wearing his uniform and most of all, he was currently holding black luggage that was somewhat suspicious to her. On the other hand, being a spy pushes him not to reveal his identity, because he believes that admitting his real agenda is like considering his mission failed. That's the reason why they ended up having an argument. An argument that began to bind their hearts together. While sitting on a couch inside his office, one of his closest friends, who owns a gun store, asked him, "Hm… What could be the reason behind Mr. Lucas Wilder's unusual silence?" At that moment, Lucas was currently drowned in the memories of his late wife and that woman. Even though Gunner was doing some sort of things to get his attention like wagging his hands in front of his face, checking his pulse and more, Lucas still remained like that. "Luuucaaas. Yuhoo! Am I still visible?" Gunner fretted in a moderate sound of his voice. He took a deep sigh the moment Lucas finally put his gaze in his direction. Lucas' face was completely blank and Gunner thought that maybe Lucas didn't really feel his presence. "You're here." Lucas uttered while looking at him. He took a deep sigh once again and nodded his head, "Yeah, actually, I nearly thought I didn't exist in your world anymore." He told him as he sat back on the couch in front of his seemingly clueless and cold-hearted friend. "What kind of nonsense is that?" Lucas uttered after letting out a smirk. "Anyway, what brings you here?" "That was the only thing that mattered earlier, but then…" He paused for a while and then he continued. "It seems like there's more that we need to talk about right now. Tell me what is currently bothering you?" Lucas stood up and faced the glass wall of his office. From there he could see tons of tall buildings with colorful lights, but none of that could ever draw his attention away from a particular thought. His mind was filled with the flashback of what happened to him while he was on his way to find Mr. Smith's daughter. Gunner could see the reflection of his friend with such a long face. He already had something in his mind about why Lucas was acting like that, which is very unusual. He isn't used to being bothered by something. Because he was there throughout the years when Lucas was starting to change his personality from a warm-hearted policeman to a cold-hearted Mafia Boss. "We need to find her," Lucas uttered with a very deep voice. He was referring to the girl he bumped up with earlier and his friend had no idea about it. Gunner's eyebrows began to furrow. From staring at the wine glass he was currently pouring, he stopped and threw his gaze into Lucas' direction. "What do you mean? Who are we going to search for?" "That woman. That thief." He responded. He was tightening his fist at that moment. He then began to tilt and stretch his head right before facing his friend. Gunner couldn't help but to laugh about what he had just heard. He stared at him with such a happy face and seemed to have teary eyes. "You mean you have been snatched?" Lucas started glaring at his friend, which made Gunner refrain from laughing over that kind of matter. He didn't have any intention of teasing him even though he thought about doing it countless times. It's just that he was really surprised about the fact that there is still a stranger who is brave enough to mess with the mafia boss' life. "Call Search. Tell her to find this woman. I have no time to spare, so tell her to be quick." He uttered to Gunner. While showing him the sketch of a woman that he drew with his own hand. Gunner nodded his head and took a deep breath. He started smiling, thinking that he could finally relax and enjoy the wine he was currently holding at the moment. He was right about to take a sip when Lucas interrupted, "Now." Actually, he really has a choice, whether to obey him or disobey him. But then Lucas, as well as his friend's family, helped him a lot of times, whenever he was in trouble. They became really good friends. Gunner wasn't a supplier of ammunition to start with. He was actually a mechanical engineer who owned a manufacturing company. But then, like how the changes hit Lucas, the same thing also came to him. He had decided to go on the same lane, even though he knew that his loyalty towards his friend would only bring him into danger. Gunner and Lucas weren't the only ones who built a strong friendship. Search, a woman who had a high knowledge of electronics and computers since birth, was also their childhood friend and their alliance up to the present. She has been in love with Lucas since they were young and Gunner, who truly loves her, was the only person who witnessed all the favors she did for Lucas just to get the man's attention. While inside the car, Gunner took his phone out and pressed the number one button to call Search. The phone rang about two times right before she finally picked it up. "Yes. Gunner?" The woman on the other end greeted him. "What's the problem?" She asked him. He chuckled and responded, "You always say that whenever I call you." "Sorry. I'm really busy right now. Could you please go straight to the point?" The woman on the other side fretted. She was currently tracking some other person due to someone's request and couldn't explain it to Gunner. "Why are you so annoyed?" Gunner mumbled. "Anyway, Lucas wanted you to look for someone. I'm on my way to your place, to give you the sketch." "What? Now?" She uttered with a loud voice. Gunner took a deep breath and said, "It's not my will to bring it to you right away. But Lucas seems to be in a rush to find this woman." Search suddenly dropped the call and started packing things up. She wasn't at home the moment Gunner called him and, due to the rush, she didn't get to hear the last few words that Gunner uttered on the other line. Gunner was actually used to Search's cold attitude, but the thing that bothered him was that, even though the said woman was always cold at him, he never ever thought that she would drop the call just like that. Especially if it's about Lucas. It took Gunner almost an hour to reach her place. Without ringing the doorbell, he started barging into the woman's house, using the code that only him and Search knew. He secretly laughed the moment he figured out that the girl still hadn't changed the password. "Where could she be?" Gunner wondered as he got inside her place. It was clean as if no one was actually there. He headed towards Search's room and ended up seeing her in her bath towel. He got his eyes widened and then he turned around after that. "What's that?" Search smirked. "As if you guys see me as a woman. Come here, tell me what it is all about." The moment Gunner turned around, Search was already sitting on the bed. She was putting some lotion on her legs while Gunner shook his head to wake himself up. He wanted to stop himself from thinking about some dirty things just because he was really turned on at the moment. "Hey. Gunner. Are you still there?" Search uttered while wagging her hand in front of what seemed to be a dumbfounded childhood friend. Gunner finally came back to his senses. He took a deep breath and said, "Go put on some clothes first. I'll wait for you outside." Search pouted her lips while watching him leave her room. She was completely clueless about why he suddenly acted really weird, as if he was very uncomfortable in that situation. After a quick change, she went out and saw him sitting on a couch. Gunner was already drinking the wine she had just bought on her way home. "This tastes really good!" he exclaimed. "Enjoying yourself?" She uttered as she sat beside him. "That drink costs way more expensive than your shoes." Gunner began creasing his forehead and then he asked, "So, are you charging me for this?" The woman shook her head and responded, "Of course not. Just want to brag about that." She chuckled. Gunner let out a short laugh and had another sip. "Give me some." Search told him while holding a wine glass. Gunner poured some wine on it. He didn't feel worried about her getting drunk because he knew that the girl could hold her liquor much more than he could. Search, on the other hand, took a sip from her glass and started asking him, "So, what is it again? Lucas wants me to search for someone?" Gunner nodded his head and said, "I guess you didn't get to hear it. So, yeah. He is actually searching for a woman." "Woman?" She asked. Gunner could clearly see how Search's emotion changed from being calm to being surprised. "Here." Gunner uttered while handing him the sketch that Lucas drew. Search quickly took the paper and stared at her. "Did he tell you why he wanted to look for this woman? He even bothered sketching her face." "I'm afraid he didn't. But according to him this woman is a thief." Gunner responded. "He must be in a rush to find her because we didn't get to talk continuously after he ordered me to deliver this sketch to you." While continuously drinking her wine, Search couldn't move her gaze away from the sketch she was holding. She couldn't stop her curiosity about why Lucas would be interested in this kind of woman.
