A Baby

"Why'd you pull us all in here?" Jade asked with folded arms as she leaned against the doorway of the library. "Well," I took a deep breath and looked down at the crumbled parchment in my hands, "I have some news." "Good or bad?" Maximus asked from his place at the table. He's the only one that took a seat. Jasmine and Potts stood in the opposite corner from me. "Just...news," Felix said with a shrug before turning towards me expectantly. "So," I said and placed the parchment on the center of the table. Everyone stepped forward to look at it. "A baby?" Jade gasped. "Bearing my same mark," I said as I held out my arm to reveal the swirl scar, "I thought I was the last true leader but apparently not." "Do you know where the village is? Where the 'dragon riders find death'?" Maximus asked. I shook my head as I looked down at the page. They claimed that I have been there before but I haven't found death...but I did see Erin's betrayal, I just didn't know it. Didn't they say that I would see others deaths if I wanted? "The MaChay mountains," I muttered as I stepped back. The mirror. "Ma what?" Maximus asked. "The mountains," Jasmine said as she stepped forward. "Please enlighten the rest of us," Felix said. "Well," I said, "when I was with Erin, Fergus and...Maxwell, they took me for an initiation type thing in these mountains. There was this building with a mirror in the middle that showed me Erin's betrayal. Not that I noticed. But it also had the ability to show me someone's death. Hence the 'dragon riders find death'." There was silence until Jade cleared her throat. "And?" She asked. "What?" I asked. "Are you going to pick up the baby?" Jade asked. "I..." I started before clearing throat, "I was hoping to figure that out. With everyone because we are a team. I may be the leader, but I wouldn't be anything without you guys." "I agree," Felix said, "this isn't a small thing. Another dragon leader...well, that could change a lot of things." "How?" Potts asked. "We can begin to rebuild the league like it was meant to be built," Maximus said with a grin. "Exactly," I said, "it is believed that with a true dragon leader, the clan is that much stronger and connected. This could be a game changer with the fight against Erin." "It's only a baby," Potts interjected. "Yes," I said, "however, we don't know how long the fight is going to last. The wars of old have often taken many years." "Can I point out something?" Jade asked with a raise of a hand. "Go ahead," I said with nod. "This is too good to be true," she said, "what if it's a trap? Carmen said it was from a man. She wouldn't say it was Erin if he paid her enough money." "But what if it's not?" I asked, "and he finds it first?" Jade sighed and rubbed her eyes. "We need to plan this out," Maximus said, "she does bring up a good point, however, we can't pass up this opportunity." "Of course," I nodded and watched as they all started of the room. Whoa. A baby. A new dragon leader. What's my next surprise?
