Groaning in frustration, I get out of my bed to turn off the alarm on my desk and the stupid thing won’t shut up unless I turn it off. I know, that’s how an alarm clock works but mine is just annoying especially because I have to wake up at 5 f*****g am.
Growing with wolves is so damn frustrating but this is my life.
I drag my feet to the bathroom to brush my teeth as I watch my reflection in the mirror. I have dark skin which is a huge contrast compared to the fair tan skin of the pack members. My hair is also dark, a deep brown color like creamed chocolate and my eyes are a shiny green color.
I wash my face, tie my hair into a messy bun, the thick curls neatly folded in place and I walk back into my bedroom to wear my workout clothes. As I put on my wristwatch, I check to see it’s already 5:15am and that means Lewis should be here in 5mins.
I head straight to the kitchen and as always, it’s bustling with omega wolves rushing to prepare breakfast.
“Here you go Laila” Mommy Casey says, handing me a cup of smoothie and I take a seat to drink it.
15 years ago, when an unknown lady dumped me at the pack borders, she was the one who fought tooth and nail for me. Uncle Roy says that I would have been living in cell if not for her tenaciousness and am grateful. She took me in and I became her second daughter.
Aside from me, her son Lewis and her daughter Avery are also treated wearily. They are hybrids, half witch and half wolf but unlike me, they at least know what they are and who their family is. Nobody dares to look down on them and they are feared by their peers.
“Thanks mom, am nothing without you” I reply with a smile before exchanging greetings with the rest.
“Don’t sweat it love, what are family for?” she replies with a smile before continuing with her chores.
I was almost finished with my drink when I feel him approaching so I get up and turn to face him.
“Good Morning, Lewis” I say, dramatically bowing as I lift an invisible skirt.
He shakes his head with a smile as his deep blue eyes shines with pride “Don’t tell me you aren’t ready yet.”
“Oh…I am” I say pushing the cup away as I stand to face him. He exchanges greeting with his mother, before we head out for my training.
My five-foot six inches frame looked quite short standing beside her six foot one inches frame. His skin is covered in sweat and he reeks of sweat too but that is something the wolves are proud of. They are beasts and they thrive in being wild hence this morning training to let off steam.
We make our way through the back down and break into a run, we run for about 20 minutes before walking into a small building. From the outside, the building looked like a small mall but on the inside, it’s a full-blown gym and an art studio specially designed for me, Avery and Lewis. It’s our little crib where we are free to be our true selves away from the prying eyes of the pack.
While the werewolves train in the town square every morning, I train here inside this building with Lewis. Our training started almost 5 years ago after I turned 13 and every morning since then, am training here. We can see the outside world from here but they can’t see through the tinted glasses or maybe they can, who knows?
In an hour, we are finished with our training and I can barely feel my bones. Each time I feel like I’m beginning to match his strength and speed, he somehow manages to raise the bar but today, I was able to keep up. I sustained a few injuries but they are all healed up now.
“Get up, the Alpha is waiting outside” I hear Lewis say and my heart skip a beat. Without a second thought, I pull myself off the ground before rushing out the door, Lewis slowing following behind me.
I rush to where he’s standing and greet him but somehow, my eyes manage to wander to his bare chest. He’s a very handsome man and honestly, it should be a crime to be this handsome.
His body is carved nicely and roughly like a god, his muscles are thick and strong and there are no traces of flesh on his upper body, just muscles. Standing next to him is uncle Roy, and Avery who waves at me. She’s stunning as usual, her brown hair neatly pulled into a ponytail as she stands there oozing confidence.
“How was training today, Cupcake?” he asked as he shifted the hairs that were sticking to my forehead. His touch lights like a spark on my skin and I almost close my eyes to enjoy the sensation when I recall he asked me a question.
“It was fine, no bones broken” I reply shyly when I notice that everyone probably noticed how shameless I was acting.
“Great, let’s go get you fed then.” He said before turning to uncle Roy as they round up their discussion through the mindlink. I hate it when they do this but I’ve learnt to just wait and ask mommy Casey later.
“Come one let’s go”, he says opening the door of his range rover for me to enter. He’s such a gentle man when he wants to be and I can’t help the flutter in my chest every time he gives me his undivided attention.
“What would you like for your birthday this time Cupcake?” he asks as he hops into the car. I turn to look at him and I can’t help being drawn to the hair by the side of his face, how nicely shaped his beards were and how badly I wanted to touch them.
As a kid, I was allowed to play with those beards but now, touching him is like threading an uncharted territory. I’m not a child anymore and a man can only hold himself back for so long especially when he’s a werewolf whose primal instincts is to rip my clothes off my body.
I lick my lips, swallowing hard before tearing my gaze away from him and looking out the window “I would like my own car.”
“Why would you want a car Cupcake?” he asks but am in no mood to answer truthfully. He would just go all Alpha mode on me again and I don’t want that, I just want to be with him and enjoy his company as much as I can before he is lost in his work.
“Nothing,” I reply and thankfully, he doesn’t push the conversation further.
We soon arrive in front of the pack house, it’s one of those huge castles with over 100 bedroom and mine is right at the top floor. I get out of the car and before I know what happens, a boy around my age bump into me. The force he hit me with was super strong and I let out a yelp.
The old me would have fallen to the ground but am stronger than that.
“I’m sorry Laila” he says but I don’t bother to accept the apology especially since I know he doesn’t mean it. He’s one of the jocks, the sons of the rich and influential men in our town. Their parents are noble men and women who hold important positions so they do as they wish, bullying the weak.
The next second, Arthur peels the boy away from me with a murderous look in his eyes before shoving the boy away. He was about to beat the boy up when I grab his hands saying “I’m hungry.”
As the amazing guy he is, he leads me into the house but from the corner of my eyes, I see Lewis dragging the boy away.
