EVELYN’S POV
My body refused to move, I fell onto the sofa, Anya’s phone leaving my hands, I heard the door open and there she was rushing towards me “Evelyn..Evelyn, are you alright?” She asked, helping me up.
I pointed to her phone which faced down, almost broken “He…he called you, I don’t know how he found your number or how he’s doing all of this” I sobbed, this was becoming worse than I had imagined.
“That’s it. I’m calling the police” she said, grabbing her phone and dialing the number.

I spent hours in silence, my body stiff as she talked to the cops, I didn’t bother to listen to whatever they said, my heart still raced at the thought of his voice, it felt like he was close to me, closer than before.
“Evelyn” someone called out to me, I turned to look, it was Elroy, his knees on the floor next to me, his eyes searching mine, his hands on mine, his breath sounded heavy.
“Wh..what are you doing here?” I asked, my voice muffled from the sobbing.
“Anya called” he cupped my face in his hand, they felt warm, safe “There’s nothing to be scared about, I’m here” he said softly, pulling me in for a hug, I didn’t resist as tears poured.
I had successfully dragged him into this pile of mess I had made “It’s going to be alright” he kept on muttering as his hands caressed my hair and patted my back. He was soft, gentle and kind, nothing like Melvin.
“I’ll just leave you two” Anya muttered softly as she showed the police officer out the door.
“I was so worried when your phone wasn’t available” he breathed “I know you hate me for being selfish and I’m really sorry I did that”
“You don’t have to apologize, I also overreacted”
“I stalked you and even though I didn’t mean to do it, I wanted to know what was happening…I didn’t know it was this bad” he replied, my secret was no longer left to me alone, he knew about Melvin, maybe about all of my past and even though I should be mad at him, I couldn’t be.
I wiped my tears with the back of my palm, my eyes caught the hands of the clock “I think you need to start going home now, Mr Vans” I pulled away from him, trying to hide my tears.
“But I want to be here with you” he made a plea “I can’t leave you like this, here, with that criminal still roaming around” he persisted, as much as I wanted to feel his warmth, his parents wouldn’t have him coming to check up on his ‘professor’
“I’ll be fine, I promise” I said, pushing him towards the door “Your dad will be really curious of your whereabouts”
“I’m not a child Evelyn” he said softly, his eyes locked on mine “I need to be here, for you, I won’t rest if I’m far away” his words slipped into my ears, but I couldn’t let them control me.
“I’ll be fine, Anya’s here and the cops too, they’ll keep me safe” I said, knowing deep down that I had no sense of safety anymore. “Just go home, please for my sake” I pleaded, pushing him out the doorway.
You can’t let your heart control you Evelyn.
After closing the door in his face, I let my tears roll, letting the thoughts of my past cloud my senses.

The next day, I clutched onto my schedule notes, fidgeting at every shadow and unfamiliar figure at the corners.
But when it came for classes, I swallowed hard, let the clack of my heels lead the silence and my lesson stayed interrupted, I averted his eyes, questions and his strong scent of verde and musk. This was no time to be fixated on the color of his eyes and the way they pull me in.
After classes, I rushed to the grocery store close to the dorm, I needed to get supplies before it was too late. The cops had gave us instructions on where to go and what to do, I held onto my pepper spray with one hand as I took my toiletries on aisle five.
Rushing up, I took hold of a few groceries, fruits and toiletries at the counter, biting my nail as they ran my items through. I stared at the sides, trying to clear my mind when I noticed a face from the corner of my eye.
A man in a dark hoodie, a smirk on his lips, his eyes on me.
This is a figment of your imagination Evelyn, he can’t be here
I tried to assure myself as I waited for the slow cashier to move her hands faster, she didn’t.
“It’s 140.99” she said, I didn’t bother to look at her, my eyes were fixated on the man. “Ma’am” she called out again, drawing me back to reality.
I let out an awkward smile as I pulled out my cash from my purse and handing it to her and taking my items and heading out the door as quickly as my legs could move, my hand still on my pepper spray.
When I rushed through, I walked even faster as I heard footsteps from behind me, I didn’t look back, that would mean confirming my fear. But whoever was behind me, he was persistent, taking each turn and each pace.
I can’t let this go on!
I turned to the mysterious man and pressed my defensive item right in his face.
“F*ck!” He screamed in pain “What’s wrong with you lady?!” He asked, his voice was unfamiliar
“You were the one stalking me” I answered, not waiting for him to regain himself, I rushed back home when I hit something at my last turn, making me fall.
“Sorry..” he mumbled,
“Ou..I’m sorry too” I said, looking back to check if that psycho was still after me
He extended his arm, i took it without looking at him, I let myself up.
“Thank you”
“You’re welcome Evie” he answered
