Chapter 19

EVELYN’S POV The air felt perfect when we made our way to my dorm, I held onto his hand, the bruise still evident on his knuckles “Let me clean that up” I said Pulling him in so I can get the first aid kit and dress his injury. I walked into the empty apartment, switching on the lights before heading to the kitchen and taking up the kit. He stood in the living room, hands in his pockets. “Please sit” I gestured to the sofa in front of him I would need to be quick with this so he could leave and I wouldn’t end up breaking the rules that do in fact keep this place safe. I took out his hand, the bruises looked stale, it had already been hours since we met that psycho. Taking the ointment, I applied softly on his bruise when I felt him tuck a strand of my hair behind my ear. “Why do you always result to violence? It looks really bad” I mumbled, blowing onto his injury without looking up. “I can’t let someone make you uncomfortable like that…also he might’ve done something worse” he replied, his soft baritone sifting through my ears “I’m so glad that you’re safe and okay” he added. I didn’t bother to look at him, his eyes made me somewhat vulnerable. “Done” I said, packing up the kit “Thank you for today and I’m sorry I yelled at you” “There’s no need for that…I would do anything to protect you” he sounded gentle, the top of his shirt unbuttoned and his lips looked moist. Stop that Evelyn. Melvin is still on the loose and you’re thinking about his Lips?! I stood up from the sofa “It’s almost curfew, I think you need to go” I said hastily. “But Anya isn’t home yet” “She’ll be around getting a few things…I’m sure she’ll be home by then” I turned to the wall clock “But it’s time for you to leave” I said sharply, wanting him to leave quickly not because it was my wish but that was the rule. “I’ll see you tomorrow…I love you” he said. I didn’t know how to answer and so I stayed silent “Good night” he smiled before letting himself out. I let out a sigh of relief the moment the doors closed right behind him, my heart raced because I had been holding back. His touch, his warm breath, I wanted all of it, yet I could not be greedy enough to make him mine. So I turned around and prepared myself for bed. It would be a long day at school tomorrow, I just had the gut feeling that it would. The next morning came and my routine continued, I headed to class with little to no enthusiasm. Even when Anya had pleaded that I stay home because of what had happened last night, I couldn’t. Bills had to be paid, things had to be done and I had to uphold my standards in school. And so I slipped into my shoes and headed straight for the class. “Good morning Professor Reeds” the students said in unison. “Good morning” I answered back, opening my textbook as I glanced and pretended not to notice the absence of Elroy. “Open to page seventy four” I said aloud, letting my voice sound more confident than before when I heard someone from the door. “Good morning professor” she smiled, her hands clasped in front of her whilst a distant minded Elroy stood beside her. “You’re late for the lecture” I didn’t turn to look at them. “Well, didn’t our parents call the school?” She asked with a high pitched voice She sounded like a giggly villain, the worst kind of liars. How on earth am I supposed to know that “I was never informed about that, miss Sterling” I answered, turning to look at them She now had her hands wrapped around his arm but his eyes rolled at her gestures and he fumed. “Well, my family had an emergency and so I asked Elroy to pick me up, I really thought that my parents had communicated to the school” she said, her outfit blinged as usual. “Maybe they communicated and I wasn’t informed” I turned to Elroy “Take your seat and don’t disturb the class and miss Sterling, you may now head down to your class” I stated I noticed the sly smirk on her lips as I kept my composure, not letting it slide that I was indeed furious. “That’s the thing miss Reeds, I’m also in this class” she smiled “That’s why I asked if it was communicated” she walked in without permission “Hi everyone, my name’s Tiffany Sterling and as you all know, I’m the Sterling only daughter” she smiled The class had begun to whisper and gasps had begun to fly here and there. Elroy walked close to me, his eyes trying to send a message, I couldn’t do this right now. “Miss Sterling, how good of you to join the class” Dean Albright walked in His receding hairline and confident smile taking me by suprise. He never did that, smile and walk into my class. “Dean Albright, good morning” “Miss Reeds, her parents called about the emergency, didn’t I tell you?” He asked as though he had spoken to me all morning. I didn’t get flustered. “It must have skipped your mind sir” I answered The students stared in awe and some made an ‘oohh’ sound. “Well it didn’t, I got the call abruptly” he frowned “Miss Sterling is a new student for this class and she’ll be attending this class with her childhood friend, Mr Elroy Vans” he stated I wasn’t sure if it was to make me feel bad or just his way of being himself, a prickly geezer. “But I never got a request for th..” “Well now, go on and sit” he interrupted me, gesturing that she head to her seat. “Thank you Dean Albright” Tiffany smiled, pulling Elroy to the empty seat out back. “Meet me after your lesson” he whispered with anger I rolled my eyes, his antics were always the same, why bother. I continued the lesson without a hitch even when Tiffany would giggle and try to place her hand on an unnerving Elroy who deemed it obvious that he wasn’t enjoying her company in the slightest. After the lesson was over, I dismissed the students before staring at my notes, scribbling down whatever I could when I heard Tiffany from the door. “Who do you think you are?” She asked, I turned to her direction. “Excuse me?” My brows furrowed at the audacity. “Don’t try to act dumb” she continued, making her way towards me “Your eyes were only fixed on Elroy, my man” she said but it felt more like a warning. “Miss Sterling, I admire your audacity but it’s beyond foolish to make such accusations. I suggest you go home and think of how to improve your grades not how to confront another woman” I shot back, picking up my things and heading for the door. “I saw him try to talk to you and hold you so don’t act dumb with me Evelyn Reeds” she said I paused, turned to her with a calm expression. “Then I suggest you make his heart fonder of you then” rich brats aren’t the only ones who can make snide remarks.
