EVELYN’S POV The call from the hospital made my heart race. I didn’t expect Chloe to have my number as her emergency contact but since she had given me the responsibility I had to be there for her despite the fact that I’d have to face him twice in one night, I was sure going to regret this. “It’s alright miss Vans” I assured her mother, squeezing her hand a bit “Tiffany is sort of right, I’m not even meant to be her emergency contact. I mean, you’re all here” I forced a smile before leaving. she had a faint smile, permitting me to leave. Without much hesitation, I made my way for the exit. I needed not to be told, with the fiesty temper of that rich brat, I needed to escape. But just as I stepped outside the hospital grounds, I felt my phone buzz. I prayed deep in my heart that it wouldn’t be him calling to tell me to come back. To my suprise, the caller had no ID. Not thinking any of a random call at seven pm, it might be Anya, seeing as I haven’t heard from her throughout today I picked up the call “Hello” I said There was no response, just silence. I pulled the phone from my ear and stared at the weird caller’s number “Who is this? If you don’t speak up, I’ll hang up immediately” “Been a while Evie” his voice came off calm and haunting My eyes flickered like a dying lamp “Why are you silent?” He asked, sending my brain to spiral out of control. I swallowed hard, “How did you get my number?” I asked knowing so well that I had done everything to make sure he could never contact me “Wh..why?” That was all I could mumble in fear. “I wanted to know how you were faring. I don’t think it’s wrong for me to do that” he let out a soft chuckle and my grip on the phone became stronger “Is my baby doing okay?” He asked as though we weren’t estranged. “That doesn’t answer my question!” I persisted, almost at the edge of logical thinking. Right now, my best bet would be to throw this phone into a ditch and never own a mobile ever in my life. Yet, I stayed on the phone anticipating his answer. “Why don’t we cool down a lil bit?” He asked calmly “You yelling in the middle of the road doesn’t seem too good, does it?” He asked. “I just want to talk to you..it took me too long to get a hold of you and I’d hate to lose that again” his voice sounded clearer. I paused, turning to look around the exit where I stood. He was here or at least still here “I’ll just ditch this phone again and maybe never own a mobile for the rest of my life” I yelled angrily. “Then I’ll have to contact your little lover boy, Evans or is it even Elvin…no no. Elroy, right?” He let out a soft chuckle “The Vans would be thrilled to hear about me, about us. wouldn’t they?” He asked menacingly My heart spiked through the invisible roof. “That’s your problem. My past has nothing to do with them. Besides..you’re just my stalking ex, a memory I’d love to forget and everyone has that type of past” I said, trying to sound as calm as still waters when my heart and mind was confused on what to do. “Your casual fits were always something I liked about you..a grey sweatshirt and jogger pants. I always loved them” I could tell that he wanted me scared but this was an open space with people in every corner. He wouldn’t dare lay a finger on me and so I looked over my shoulder and headed back into the hospital, going home now would be more risky. “I don’t care Melvin, leave me the f**k alone or I swear I’ll just kill myself so we could both stop this back and forth” I threatened, breathing heavily. “Woah, woah. No need to get all suicidal” he paused “Just relax love. I mean, judging from the fact that I helped little Chloe over there get her attempt done, I could help you as well” he said. Suddenly I felt time stop as I placed my hand on the wall for support “What did you just say?” I questioned, my back against the wall on my way back in. “Chloe was having little problems so I..helped her” he answered. “You..you were the attacker!” I yelled, making the people around me pause for a second “You almost killed a little girl” the cold feeling of realization washed over me. “I used her to send a message” “Don’t you ever in your miserable life come close to her ever again” I warned “I swear on my life Melvin, I’m done playing your games..if you know what’s best for you, I suggest you leave the Vans out of this” “Oh but I can’t. It’s not my call to make, its someone else’s. So darling, it’s up to you, take the hint or well..watch me make their lives miserable” he hung up the phone. “Chloe…Chloe” I panicked and ran back to the hall. To where I could find her, I needed to truly make sure she was safe. Ignoring all the warnings in my heart, I raced to her side, pushing through the elevator buttons and making my way for her room and just when I had gotten close. I heard a voice from behind me. “Don’t you dare try to get in” I turned to look, it was Elroy, the last person on earth who could tell me that. “I want to make sure she’s fine” I answered “Please just let me..” “She’s fine..... Haven’t you caused her enough pain already?” He asked, Tiffany right behind him with folded arms protruding her breasts. “What are you talking about?” I asked in confusion. “You’re the reason she’s in there, I know the truth Evelyn”
