Chapter 29

Evelyn’s Pov The smile etched on his lips made the class roar with excitement, everyone seemed entertained when he introduced himself All except Elroy, who raised a brow, scoffing at his introduction and glaring so hard someone would think he planned to kill him. “Settle down students” I said loudly, trying to grab their attention and they did calm down but only after their muse had gone, and had waved them goodbye. The class continued but then it kept on getting hitched by none other than Tiffany who had her hands around Elroy and kept trying to get his attention whilst the lecture was ongoing. “Anything you wanna share with the class miss Sterling?” I asked with my back turned to them as my marker left its marks on the board. “How do you know that I’m the one talking?” She asked obnoxiously, I could tell that she just rolled her eyes further “It might be someone else, professor” she made an in-depth enthusiasm on the title. “No one has such a voice and would use that tone in class..that’s how I know” I responded, turned to face her and noticed the glare she had constantly placed on me. I wasn’t new to this, infact, to me, this is a routine, she always glared like I was the villain trying to ruin her life. “You can sit down now, miss Sterling” I stated, seeing as she stood up to draw attention “Your project for last evaluation is coming, so take up your books and turn to page eighty” I announced with a stern expression whilst Tiffany still stood in place, her face reddened with anger. “Sit down Tiffany” Noah urged, placing his hand on her wrist. “Leave me alone” she whisked his hand away, fury in her eyes. “Could you please sit down Tiffany?” Elroy finally asked but it felt more like an order because his voice was deep and somewhat angered. “Everyone’s at page eighty?” I asked, ignoring her tantrums, she was truly problematic and I intended to ignore her existence if possible. “Why do you always take her side?” I raised my head to look at her. Complaining in class was one thing but trying to put me in the wrong spotlight was just intolerable. “Quit your intolerable attitude miss Sterling or leave my class!” I announced, at this, Elroy pulled her down, making her sit hard on the chair, thankfully, she had a pillow on it. “Ou!” She exclaimed, I couldn’t be bothered. “Page eighty comes with a guide on the assignment and project, choose two partners to work with and after that, we’ll have the field trip before evaluation” I said, almost immediately, giggles flew right in the air and people started rushing to different sides to pick their partners. “That’s all for today” I announced as I made my way to leave when my eyes caught someone with a sling backpack running towards me, his eyes low and tired. “Ev..miss Reeds” Elroy called out, I didn’t turn to look at him, instead, my eyes focused on my bag and the items I shoved in “I need to speak with you” he ordered. “Is your sister alright?” I asked first “I wanted to apologize for leaving abruptly…I had to go home” I stated. “Yeah..I saw” he said sharply, pulling his bag harder as the look of anger clouded his face. “Alright then. I’ll talk to Mrs Vans later. I called during the weekend but the butler told me she was resting, hope she’s okay?” I asked, my eyes fixated on my purse, away from his eyes. “She’s fine..even though you walked off with that…what is he to you?” He questioned, I could hear the rage in his tone but this wasn’t the time or place to do that. “I don’t need to tell you anything Mr Vans” I answered quickly “You have to hurry to your next class and so do I” I turned to leave when he held me, not watching who would see. Luckily, everyone was leaving through the back door and going on about who they would choose as partners. “Please talk to me” his gaze softened but this was the worst time to do this. “About what?!” I asked, whisking my arm away “Look Elroy, not everything and everyone revolves around you and your family and right now” I turned to see Tiffany who started moving with her crew towards us, probably because of him. “It’s not the best time to ask me questions. Your girlfriend and her posse are right here” I whisked my arm away and headed out through the front door. Rushing through the hall, I made my way to the teacher’s lounge where I was interrupted from my thoughts to head to the Dean’s office. “What does he want this time?” I mumbled under my breath, dropping my bag on the desk. “Just go in and see..lucky you” Philpa teased with a smile. What on earth was she going on about? Heaving a haughty sigh, I made my way towards his office, I opened the door to find a calmly motioned Ryder standing with his arms folded, protruding his toned muscles. “Hey Evie” he waved. How on earth was he always so jovial. A faint smile crept on my lips. “Dean Albright, good afternoon” I greeted, my hands clasped in front of me to hear what he had to say this time, probably to reprimand me as usual and in front of a new recruit. “Afternoon miss Reeds. I suppose you’re both acquainted” he didn’t ask, well better for me, I didn’t want to be asked. “Since you both have similar situations, courses and…demeanor” he started. I was sure demeanor wasn’t the word he was trying to find but whatever, I wanted to head home for a shower. “You’ll tutor him on how to do his job” he said, my eyes widened with shock and I wanted to protest, but I stayed quiet, it would do me no good. “And he’ll accompany you to the field trip next week” he said “That is all, you can leave” he dismissed us almost immediately. My eyes watched him like a hawk but I refused to say anything, my body just went through his door without complaints and Ryder followed after me. “I guess this is fate Evie” he chimed, I didn’t, fate wouldn’t come knocking at my door when I didn’t want it in the form of the guy who gave me a love confession years ago.
