‘STRANGE ROOM’
Guess what? There is a room. Precious life is saved. The room is scary sometimes. But if lucky, you will be saved. Life is birth, saved and sadly sometimes lost. When I got to this room, on the first day, my stomach had butterflies. How am I going to get through this in the next 3 days, little did I know that the doctor would keep pushing days. Today, on day 13, I looked outside the ward window; all I could do was to make wishes. I want to bask in the sun. I want to walk out there. I want to be free. I see medical students aspiring to save lives; I see airplanes landing, people scrambling to come visit their sick loved ones. Doctors are walking around with files; I guess patients' files. Back to this room, Ward 9B Bed 34.I lay on this bed, wondering how the platelet transfusion would take place. The doctor comes, examines me, and says very few words. The treatment starts. I am anxious to go home, but I can see from the doctor’s expertise, he doesn’t want to rush the process because there is a life he needs to save. He carries out a few tests; some basic, some complex and scary. But the question is, how do I handle this???? I pray for God to get me through this. In a split of a second, I just feel strength and a powerful feeling flowing through my veins. I stand strong in faith, knowing that God is on my side. I receive friends' and family visits. I get encouraged. I feel my spirit is alive. Little did I know, I am actually lucky to be in this particular room; having the right friends and colleagues. I belong to the right family. My discovery, the patients in the room are powerful. We exchange a few words and experiences. Strong prayers are said. Most of the patients get discharged and go home. That right there gives me hope that I shall walk out of this room too. I pressure my doctor on the discharge, but as I said, my doctor is organized and concerned with saving a life; not how long the treatment takes, but how restored the patient is. On this day, I am grateful for this particular room. I know the medics are anointed to save my life. Amen By, Faith Nyanchera Omari
