Chapter 1
Tyler called upon Kim’s father, Mr. Adam Kamani, who has been the family’s chauffeur since he was little. The conversation began as he spoke to Mr. Kamani with great respect about the proposition he had for him. The air in the room was burning with tension as Tyler faced Mr. Adam Kamani, Kim’s father, whose gaze showed a mixture of authority and expectation. "Mr. Kamani, I understand the tradition and honor behind arranged marriages, but my heart yearns for a connection that moves beyond any sort of obligation." Tyler spoke with a tone of respect and apprehension, his words echoing throughout the entire room. Mr. Kamani, a man of few words, regarded Tyler with a slight gaze, his eyes showing a mixture of experience and wisdom. "Tyler, the union between you and my daughter Kim is not just a matter of tradition, it is a merging of two families, a bond that carries the light and the weight of generations." His voice resonated with a touch of joy and sadness. In the fancy room, bathed in the warm glow of flickering candlelight, Tyler sat before Mr. Adam Kamani, his voice steady yet filled with a hint of vulnerability, and met Mr. Kamani's unwavering gaze. "Mr. Kamani, I hold dear the traditions that have shaped our families, but within my heart stirs a longing for a connection that divides obligations." His words were filled with a delicate balance of respect and longing. Mr. Kamani, not wanting to disappoint Tyler right away, answers, “Tyler, I have worked for your family for over twenty years now. I watched you grow up into the fine man you are today. I would want nothing more than for my daughter to be a part of this beautiful family of yours, but the decision isn’t mine to make.” Tyler held his breath for a minute, then said. "Mr. Kamani, I come before you not just as a suitor but as a man willing to defy convention for the chance to honor a love that knows no limits. I offer you not just my hand but a promise of unwavering devotion to Kim, a commitment that transcends expectations. I will give her the life she deserves. I love Kim, but I know she has only ever regarded me as an older brother." His words are a symphony of passion, conviction, and sadness. With a gaze that held the weight of unspoken truths, Mr. Kamani regarded Tyler, then said. "Tyler, I can’t assure you that Kim will be entirely okay with this offer of yours. I, on the other hand, would love for our two families to be intertwined, but I have to support my daughter’s decision. But not all possibilities have been explored. Your offer, though bold, speaks of a love that knows no price." A blend of contemplation and a hint of approval was in the air. In that moment, Tyler, with his heart laid bare, made an offer that shimmered with both audacity and sacrifice. Many questions passed through his mind, such as, “What would he think of me if I told him that I was ready to pay him off any amount necessary just for him to agree to this union?” “Will I be forced to show him my darker side and blackmail him into accepting my offer?” Then a spark of defiance ignited in Tyler's eyes, a silent plea for understanding and acceptance in the face of a proposition: "Mr. Kamani, in exchange for the blessing to marry Kim, I offer not just my love but a gesture of sincerity that knows no bounds. I am willing to pay a sum that reflects the value of a love that defies convention, a sum that speaks of my commitment to honor and cherish Kim for all eternity." His words, laced with a mix of reverence and determination, hung in the air like a delicate promise waiting to be fulfilled. Mr. Kamani stared at him, his brows wondering what he met by paying a sum. “Tyler, what do you mean? What are you talking about?” He replied, his voice breaking and his words coming out like a stutter. Tyler smiled mischievously, ran his hand through his hair, and stood up, walking towards the mahogany table at the center of the living room. Mr. Kamani watches him as Tyler writes on a piece of paper, tears it, and looks back at him, smiling. Tyler walks back and occupies the seat he had been sitting on. He looks at the piece of paper he was holding again and stretches it towards Mr. Kamani, who takes it with both his hands. “That's a cheque for $10 billion.” Tyler said with an air of pride. Mr. Kamani’s eyes are wide open in shock, and his mouth is slightly open as if he were about to scream. “T-T-Ten b-b-b-b-billon?” He asked Tyler chuckles "Yes, sir. Ten billion.” “Who owns it?” Mr. Kamani takes a sudden, sharp breath. "You, sir, your name is on it. Look at it.” Tyler laughed and stood up again. He walks towards the bar section of the room, pours two glasses, and hands one over to Mr. Kamani. “It's a wine called Cognac from France. I got it from my last trip there.” Tyler said as he raised his glass to his mouth. Mr. Kamani looks at the glass with interest and swirls it to observe its color. He sniffs it and hesitates before taking a sip. “This is nice, really nice!” He exclaimed “I knew you would like it. I got two bottles, so you can have one.” “Really? Thank you, Tyler.” Mr. Kamani replied, smiling and showing the dimple on his left chin. “Don't call me Tyler sir, call me son-in-law. I am your son-in-law, right? Or am I not?” Tyler asked, his gaze focused on the man in front of him. “Yes, yes, you are correct.” Mr. Kamani replied as he continued to sip his wine, savoring every drop that touched his lips
