Darkness fell, the moon came and went. Helena found she could not sleep. Her first night in the jungle, there wasn’t a sound. Now the forest seemed alive with noise. It was like a veil had been lifted from the area. News of the Spiders’ removal must have spread wide, and the animals returned to their homes once they didn’t have to worry about being eaten.
Ajay came and sat next to Helena. “You have not left?”
“Should I?”
“That is your decision. We will fight off the British alone if we must.”
“Because some things a person has to do alone?”
