The Death Of Selene Ross
Selene's POV The air was filled with different scents, the moon casting its glow over the forest. The wind was flowing through the trees, making the leaves fly all over the place. The ground was cold as I walked on it with my bare feet, each step broke a twig and many hit stones. But I didn't stop running. I couldn't, I could never. A branch broke behind me. My heart dropped as fear was in my body. I put my hand over my swollen belly, my heart beating twice as fast. *_They're Coming_* I moved forwards, ignoring the pain in my legs, and my gasp for air. The darkness ahead seemed endless. My mind told me to stop, that there was no use running, there was nowhere left to run. But my heart said another. **_You have to survive. For you, For your baby_** I heard a sound from the left, I turned, my heart beating faster. I saw a shadow in between the trees. I wasn't alone. Then, he stepped into the moonlight. Jake. He was the only man I loved, the man I had trusted . And he was the man who betrayed me. I couldn't say anything as I looked at his intimidating blue eyes. He stood, his dark hair styled in the direction of the wind. He looked just as I remembered, strong, confident, his aura showing the power of an Alpha to be. Except now, the power wasn't mine to stand beside. I couldn't stand near him. Not anymore. I took a deep breath, a very shaky one, my heart still beating faster. "Jake..." I whispered. "Please." His expression looked stern. "Cara, don't make this harder than it is." I was shocked at his words. His tone was cold, it wasn't what I knew. It didn't have the love he confessed everytime. I heard a soft laugh behind me. The laugh was filled with mockery. It was Evelyn. She stepped forward, her golden hair long and amazing. Her blue eyes were filled with amusement as she laughed slightly. I had spent my entire life in her shadow, enduring her hatred, her cruel ways, her maltreatment. But nothing had prepared me for this. For her to take everything from me. "You should have accepted your fate, dear sister." She laughed, her voice filled with mockery. "Did you really think you could escape?" I folded my hands into a fist. "Why?" My voice was filled with tears. "Why are you doing this?" Evelyn signed, like the answer was glaring. "Because you were never meant to have anything, Selene. Not a mate. Not a title. And certainly not a child." She looked at my belly. I put my hands around my belly, as I saw a laugh of satisfaction on her face. "You took Max from me," she continued, her eyes looking more furious. "Father may have chosen you as his Luna, but you were never worthy. You were weak, wolfless. Nothing but a disgrace,Selene. You were a disgrace to the Moon light pack." She stepped closer, she now whispered. "You never deserved him." My heart dropped. It had never been about the pack. It was never about the honor. It had always been about Jake. I turned to him, looking for the man I once loved in his eyes. The man who once held me in his arms, who kissed me every morning, and whispered promises of forever. But there was nothing. I saw nothing, that had all changed. It had been replaced with emptiness, and coldness. Jake signed slowly. "Selene, don't fight this. Just accept it." "You love me." My voice shaky. "You told me you did." Jake paused, but Evelyn was quicker. She laughed. "Oh, poor Clara," she said, stepping between us. "Do you really think Jake wanted you?" She looked at him, putting a finger on his arm. "He was mine, he was king before you came into the picture. He was just playing his role, the role he was given. I shook my head, still trying to understand what was going on. "That's not true." Jake let out a deep breath, he looked almost tired. "It is." Evelyn laughed loudly again. "You poor thing. You're still holding on to your fairy tale." I stepped back, my body shaking. "I trusted you," I whispered, my voice almost like a whisper. Jake looked at me, but his expression was cold. No warmth. No remorse. "That was your mistake." Evelyn's laugh turned into frown. "Enough of this. Enough of this rubbish." Something shiny was in her hand. It was a dagger. My heart stopped. I moved back, I could feel my heart in my ears. "Evelyn, don't......" She used it. I felt immediate pain in my side as the blade ran deep into my flesh. My hands immediately went to the wound, as blood gushed out, soaking my dress. Evelyn twisted the dagger, her eyes filled with satisfaction. I screamed. The pain was none like ever before. My vision became blurred, my legs shaky. I collapsed on the forest floor, the scent of blood was intoxicating. Max crouched beside me, watching me as I ran out of breath. "Goodbye forever, Selene," he whispered. Evelyn knelt, leaning in, until she was close enough to my ear. "Enjoy the afterlife, sister, I hope you suffer as much as you did here." The next minute was filled with darkness. ********* I felt no pain. There was no pain. No cold. No fear, nothing but silence. I was floating in an endless place, I had no weight, and I was no longer in mortal form. I should have been dead. But no. I felt something. A soft feeling of warmth surrounded me, it felt like that of a mother. It was filled with energy, but soothing and powerful all at once. Then I heard a voice. It was Soft, yet it was commanding. "Do you wish to live?" My eyes immediately opened and suddenly I was no longer in darkness. I stood in another space, it was silver and shiny, the ground was glowing. And there she was, she stood before me. It was The Moon Goddess. She was beautiful, growing. Her silver hair flowing, she had golden eyes, we were told they were filled with ancient wisdom. She radiated power. Power strong enough to shake the heavens. I fell to my knees, my body trembling. The Moon Goddess stepped forward, her voice was soothing. "You have been wronged, child." Tears filled my eyes. "I...I don't want to die" I stuttered. "Please." She looked at me for a long time. Then she smiled. "And if I gave you a second chance?" I was shocked. "A second chance?" "To take back what was stolen from you" she said. "To seek revenge." The word sent a chill down my spine. I could make them pay. I could finally make them pay. I could protect my child. I felt a sudden feeling of hope. "What must I do?" I asked. The Moon Goddess' golden eyes were filled with something I couldn't recognise. "You will be reborn," she said. "But there are conditions." I listened, still confused as my heart beat faster. "You will inhabit the body of another," she continued. "You will have one hundred and fifty days to find your true mate and be marked, or your soul will vanish." I stood there "And," she said, her voice firm. "You must never reveal who you truly are." A chill ran down my spine. This is the chance I have. "I accept" The Moon Goddess placed a hand over chest. The last thing I heard was her voice, soft, yet powerful. "Rise, Emily Davis." And after that, everything went dark. I gasped. And my eyes immediately opened. But something was different, I wasn't in my body anymore.
