The Dragon Diaries

My life never seemed to be my own. I lived my life on a whim of the thoughts and subjections of others. I always thought that when I am all grown up, though, I will finally leave my naïve, submissive life behind. Well… life has a way of biting you in the ass at the end and make you see reality. I was not yet an adult in my thoughts, just 17 years old, the stage in between but I was shoved off the plane without a parachute into the desert to learn my way around when none of the decisions has been mine from birth. My name is Ariella Jordan and this is my story of struggling through adulthood, friendships and enemy’s and unsuspecting bumps on the road. "mum! I can't find my black pumps, have you seen them? Mom! I'm going to be late for work" s**t, s**t, s**t, s**t… out of all the days to be late, it just has to be today when it is my first day…sigh Deloris will definitely give me a heavy load but I don't really mind, I love animals and how hard is it to walk dogs etc. I have never had a pet to look after but I have always longed for one so this job is a dream. "mum!" "find some other shoes, I put them in the washing" urgh! So, I spent so long looking for nothing and wasting time. Walking the short distance to the dog care centre had me in nerves but all the lights were off and it was only ten past four so I was only ten minutes late but they close at five to half past five so the lights should not be off and it was quiet and although I knocked and looked through the window, there was no one so I just went back home and sent a message to Deloris. "Ariella? Is that you?" "yes mum, the centre was closed" "but they close at five, it is only 4:25" "yeah but I sent Deloris a message, she will get back to me" "ok but baby, your dad and I would like to talk to you after dinner when he gets back" "ok sure, what's for dinner?" "potato fry" Dear diary Today has been the same as any other, I was the same wallflower in school, going through unnoticed until I get embarrassed or needed for something. Today was also my first day at work but they seemed to have closed and I was really looking forward to looking after the dogs but I have to wait another day. My seventeenth birthday is coming up in a few weeks as well, and mum and dad said that we will be going to actually spend my birthday with family who I have not seen much off, or any actually, so I was surprised and a lot nervous but am also quite excited. Mum and dad said that they are extended family and they don’t get along because of some long ago disagreement… Well, I hear dad so I better go shower before supper… mwahzzz "hi dad, how was work? Mine was closed when I went" "hi honey, sorry to hear that but there is always tomorrow, work was slow today, although… there was this customer who had his whole computer copied and wiped out and something just doesn’t seem right about the rash story he gave me plus the hacker’s style seemed familiar to me though I can’t think of why" "well, if anyone can figure it out, it is you dad… oh err just wondering; can I go to the park tomorrow after work? I’ve never really been to the park so they won't allow me to walk the dogs there" "yes but make sure your cell-phone is charged and message us when you finish work and when you coming home. Let us go eat, your mum is sending daggers our way, most probably because she's feeling left out that I have all your attention" I roll my eyes at my parent’s antiques. "baby, we want to tell you a story and it is very important but do not ask any questions until the end, ok honey?" my mom said, so I just nodded, they always use to tell me stories to put me to sleep but I'm not a child anymore and neither are we in bed… "there once stood a village far from any civilisation and they use to be farmers. Farmers always had problems with predators killing and eating their animals, but at this village that was so close to the rumoured volcanoes of stone valley, they had dragons that preyed on their livestock, legends speak of these dragons that will protect those that look after them and for generations after generations, this villagers fed the dragons and keep their secret and was saved by the dragons in many ways, but this story is about when the son of the chief who hated this small village and dreamed of the bigger villages and travel and riches… he thought with his knowledge on dragons and a few dragon scales for proof, he will be rich. So, he packed his bags and traveled to the edge of the volcanoes to search for dragon scales and set forth to the big villagers. It took a long tiring walk to even reach the first village that was brave enough to be even that far from the stone valley. He went through until he met with the chief and told him all about the dragons and even showed him the scales, the chief was shocked and excited and the boy had no idea what trouble he has caused for not only the dragons but his family, the chief was excited because the dragon’s scales were made from a variety of crystals and so he allowed the child to stay and he learnt what he could and behind the child's back, crafted weapons and crates for the crystals. It was almost three moons when the child felt sad because he missed his family and friends and he did not meet anyone new besides the chief and his wife and so he grew suspicious and one day sneaked out only to see the place was vastly different from when he was last here, the crops and animal life was slowly dying and the people were building weapons… and that is when he knew he made a mistake and decided to run back home and warn them but at the end he was a coward and could not, so instead he went back to the chief and asked what is the meaning of this, the chief just laughed "boy, the so-called dragon scales you brought us is actually crystals, worth a lot, thank you for the information, we intend taking over the village" and then he cut off the boy's head, still shocked. There was a girl of fifteen who heard this and was shocked and scared, she used to play with a baby dragon once but never saw her again, so she knew they were real and could not let this happen so she set forth to stone valley. The girl went to the chief and told him of a boy that told her chief of dragons and their scales and that she as a child played with a dragon and had no intention for their harm so she came to warn them and the dragons, but she was disappointed to find no dragons but the chief called a meeting and told the girl to stand out so when she started to get bored and walked around, she saw a dragon made of white crystals and ran up to it without thinking of the dangers but just that it looked so much like the dragon she use to play with "hello, is that you Dra? It’s me Sofia" the dragon looked up from its meal and growled, frightened and unsure, she moved back but the dragon continued to look at her then started to move towards her but still frightened, she just moved back until the dragon sat down and gave ramble kind of noise so she slowly moved up and tried to pet the dragon, and when the dragon allowed her, she sat and told the dragon the news she brought, the dragon abruptly got up and flew away. When she went back to the village, she saw a boy a little older than her watching her with daggers than moved away, she did not know why he looked at her so and sat waiting for the chief. A while later when the meeting was done, the chief and elders left and instructed those to get ready for war just before dragons flew overhead and landed in around the village, people gasped in awe and fright and in relief but had little time; for the other villagers were coming. Everyone was a little ready thanks to the girl and the dragons were here because of the girl as well, but there was not enough for the Army that was coming and in the end, the dragons and the villagers died, the girl was on her death bed as well but her dragon gave her life essence to save her and the girl awoke in a bed with others of her clan, her chief not knowing that she ran away to tell their enemy what was to happen so she went back to her family but only her mother was alive. The girl was sad and depressed that the dragons and her father did not make it and she did not know how she managed to survive, the boy that glared at her was the one that nearly killed her. She started to hear a voice not her own in her head and she thought she was going crazy but the voice explained that she was the dragon that saved her by giving her life essence to her. She noticed she could do strange things after that but what topped it was one day when she mistakenly fell off a cliff, she shifted into an emerald dragon. She knew she could not stay now so she left her village and wandered far to another, there she stayed and revealed nothing of what happened in her past until she fell in love with the chief's son and married and had a child, it was the child's seventeenth birthday that strange things happened to her and she asked her parents, the father said they did not know but the mother knew and spoke of her past for the first time in a long while, it was then that she went out and shifted for the second time ever. The daughter learned to control her powers and shifted when she turned eighteen, she travelled and soon saw another dragon, not her mother's since this was a greyish colour, the dragon saw her too and fell in love with her pinkish colour, they met up a few times and when the day came where she had to move with him, she told her parents of her adventures with another dragon shifter and wishes to move to his tribe but he was not a chief or chiefs son but just a warrior so they called him to be the next chief in this village and told him that the village will keep their secret.” “Honey, the story we told you is actually true and we are descendent from that tribe, we have dragon blood in us, we do not shift anymore because it is dangerous and we do not use our powers for the same reason but honey, we are dragon shifters" I was speechless, I wondered why I was hearing this story but I just didn’t think this would be it. "you can ask us anything but it is getting late and we know you would want to think this through so you can ask us tomorrow, we leaving to our family's lodge next Friday" I got up and washed and got ready for bed still thinking this must be some joke, they love fooling around.
