Wendy was filled with anger as she walked ahead of Thomas. Her weekend with Thomas didn't go as she had expected. And now as she walked ahead of him her one thought was to break up with him.
"Wendy, wait," Thomas told her. Wendy was moving fast making Thomas run just to catch up with her.
"Stay away from me Tom. Just stay away!" she said angrily. But Thomas caught up with her and grabbed her with both hands.
"Tom, let go of me;"
"Wendy wait, just listen."
"And what more awaits me?" She asked with tears in her eyes.
"Look, I'm sorry the weekend went this way."
"How could you do this to me? How could you,Thomas?" she asked wiping tears from her eyes.
"Look, I had to Wendy. I had no choice but to bring you in." he said defending his actions.
"Why?" she asked
"When they brought your file, I was convinced they had the wrong person."
"And yetI thought I was coming over for an enjoyable weekend." she laughed
"I set out to prove to my colleague that you were innocent. But she wouldn't believe me."
"Did she call the vans to pick us up?" she asked
"That was my idea." Thomas said.
"Oh great." she said rolling her eyes, "so meeting you wasn't a coincidence right?"
"True Wendy I wanted this relationship as much as you did," he said
"So why didn't you tell me I was a suspect in a murder case while we were in the house?" she asked . Thomas sighed running his hand through his hair.
"I mean..I didn't even know..I mean.." Thomas didn't know how to tell her Diane had come to the house and had given him the file.
"So?" she asked. He sighed undecided if he should say it or not. But one look at her told him there was no use lying.
"Diane came to the house and gave me the file." He held his breath waiting to see how Wendy would react.
"Diane." She bent her head on hearing Diane's name.
"I mean, well she called me, past midnight and I asked her to come over,"
"I told you I wasn't going to stay if you had work to do." she sighed
"I know but I had to get to the root of the story and she told me there was new evidence,"
"I get it, my past records, right?" Thomas nodded.
"I found the file in the safe by accident." she said. Thomas stared at her in disbelief. How did she know I have a safe in the house? he asked himself
"I was looking at the portrait when I found it. You didn't lock it." she said.
"Sorry you had to see your past records." he said.
"Sorry, for what? About my past or my present?" she asked smiling.
"You tell me," he said.
"I sleep with a man I'm finally making a comittment to and what does he do? He frames me for the murder of some guy I've never even heard of before." she said
"Sleeping was the good part. Framing you? I'd never do that." He chuckled. Wendy looked at Thomas in such a manner that made him feel she had taken the decision to break up with him.
"Take me home Thomas," she said. Thomas quickly called for a taxi to stop and they got in. When they got to the house Wendy started packing her bag. When she was done she told Thomas to call a taxi for her.
"Wendy it shouldn't end like this," he told her.
"I think this is the best way to end it seeing you can't stay away from your colleague." Thomas laughed. He hadn't thought she would be jealous of Diane. But her words was telling him she was jealous.
"She's neither my girlfriend nor my lover. She's just a colleague,Wendy."
"Well I'm leaving the scene for her. Seeing she loves you, take advantage," she said as Thomas walked her up to the front door. Thomas hugged her and waved goodbye to her when she got into the taxi. Thomas watched as the taxi drove off. When it disappeared out of sight he nodded.
"I'm not finished yet, Wendy. I'm still coming after you again."
