9. A SHOPPING TRIP FOR DAYS

-KAILEE-

Meghan, Laura and I left after breakfast to go shopping. Luke made Andy and another warrior named Devin, accompany us. Half way through our trip I felt sorry for Andy and Devin and I felt a little sorry for myself as well. I definitely was not a shopper but Laura and Meghan did that job exceptionally. We had a late lunch and then continued shopping. Our security team took turns to make several trips to the SUV to unload the bags they were carrying. When I was almost too exhausted to continue, Laura and Meghan got me into a changing room and it quickly became overwhelming. Every time I thought I was done, another slew of clothes were thrown over the door for me to try on. I came out of the changing room to show them the outfit I was in and, exhaustedly said “ladies you all are pros at this and I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but do you mind if this is the last of the items that try on?” They both laughed and agreed we could start making our way home. Today I found out six hours of shopping was my absolute max that I could take.

When we got home, Andy and Devin took our bags to our designated rooms and drove Laura home. Luke and Kyle joined us for dinner in the dining hall. The food melted in my mouth. When Julia came out and asked how the food was, I told her it was what dreams were made of. “Well, if either of you ever want to learn how to make some dishes, I’d be happy to show you” Julia said. “We’d love that” replied Meghan. It was true, no one ever taught us how to cook but we always wanted to and at the diner we were always too busy to learn.

After dinner, we said goodnight and went to our room. I smiled at Luke and he knowingly nodded “see you when you’re out of the tub” he said. When I got into the bathroom, the tub was already filled with hot water, bubbles and rose petals. I’m pretty sure I won the lottery with that guy.

I started the morning by asking my father to join me so we could review what security could find on Kailee. When he got there, he was excited to let me know my sister, Danielle, would be joining us later today. She had been off at college and was coming home now that she had graduated. I had the perfect job for her to do and I knew she would love it!

We reviewed the file and it turned out that Kailee had been left at a fire station in town when it was just 48 degrees. She was so young her umbilical cord was still attached. They thought she wouldn’t make it. Just as she told us, she was bounced from foster home to foster home, not staying for more than 6 months at any house. To make matters worse, there were several accounts of abuse in her file. I threw the file on my desk and it landed with a thud. Those that were found to have abused Kailee would be punished. I linked Kyle to get the names and handle them accordingly, which he gladly agreed to do.

Around lunch time, Andy linked me to “Alpha, you may have to send reinforcements. I’m not sure my arms can hold this many bags.” I laughed out loud “I’ll be sure to double the security for your next outing” I linked back. I was glad Kailee was safe now and they were enjoying themselves.

A little later, there was a knock at the door and in walked my sister, Danielle. I was happy to see her after so much time away. “Look who decided to join us” I exclaimed as I walked towards her. “Not by choice” she laughed and gave me a big hug. “So Alpha, where is this mate I’ve heard so much about” she asked. “She’s currently out shopping with mother” I replied. “Oh goddess, better her then me” she laughed. “Actually, I have a favor to ask if you” I said. “I’m here a few minutes and you’re already asking for a favor Alpha” Danielle teased. “Kailee wants to join our pack and I thought you’d be perfect to plan the ceremony” I told her. Danielle jumped up in excitement, running around my desk to hug me. “Yes! Of course I’ll plan it! I just need to meet her first and get to know what she likes and…” she rambled on but I interrupted, “you’ll love her. I would like to wait until she gets her wolf so they can both be part of the ceremony and I don’t know when that will be. Dad can fill you in on that part” my father nodded in agreement. “I’m hoping that will be in just a couple of weeks, so let’s plan for three weeks out but wait to send the invitations until we know for sure”, I suggested. Danielle walked out of my office already searching things up “I’m right on top of that” she said as she left.

That night we ate dinner and I linked Layla, Julia’s daughter asking her to fill our bathtub and place rose pedals in it. She happily accepted the job. Layla was in her early 30’s and lived with us, helping Julia with the upkeep of the packhouse. Without a Luna here, we needed a pack house manager for the time being. Julia and Layla filled that position for us.

As Kailee walked into the bathroom I could feel her happiness. Our bond was definitely getting stronger because I felt her wanting me to join her as well. “Knock on the door and see if she needs some help”, Zane said. “She doesn’t need help” I responded. “Well, maybe you can ask if she’d like to dessert with some whip cream!” He insisted. “Zane we will do all those things when the time is right” I insisted back “let’s just let her enjoy getting use to us” I replied. “You’re a loser” Zane said as he went to the back of my mind. I couldn’t help but laugh at him as I got into bed and waited for my mate. There was no doubt every part of me wanted to listen to him though. When a wolf finds their mate, it is common for them to mate and mark them the same night, especially an Alpha and Luna. I knew it would all work out in time, in her time, and I was willing to wait however long that was.
