8. BUBBLE BATHS

-LUKE-

My meeting was running late and all I wanted to do is get back to Kailee. We talked about her medicine and I agreed that she shouldn’t take it anymore. I wasn’t sure how long it would take to wear off before she would hear her wolf again. At least she knew what was happening this time but I wanted to be there when it happened.

Once the meeting was over, Kyle and I drove back to the pack house. I linked my father to find out if the attorney reviewed the contract. I doubted the Reynolds would dare come after the girls about their contract after today, but I wanted to be prepared if they did. He linked back that the contract looked to be legal although the morality of it was not and could possibly be used against the Reynolds.

There was a lot to uncover and pieces were coming together, but as much as I wanted to get to the bottom of this, I thought Kailee needed the night off. I planned to take Kailee and Meghan around the pack grounds so they could know their way around. Thankfully, Kyle agreed to join us.

That evening we used the golf cart so we could make some quick stops along the way. We showed them our pack school, the shops, and the hospital. Wolves can heal themselves pretty quickly so the hospital was rarely used except in extreme cases and to birth pups. We ended up at my parent's house at the edge of the packland. Father wasn’t Alpha any longer, but he still wanted to protect the pack. He chose to live on the edge to be the first to intercept any rogues that might threaten us.

We didn’t stay at their house for long, just long enough for them to welcome Meghan and for Mother to plan on going with the girls to shop tomorrow. We went to one of the restaurants and then the ice cream shop. I hoped they felt more comfortable as they met more of the pack members. Our pack was different than others. Our warriors were strong and disciplined, one of the largest of all packs. Yet our pack was welcoming and kind that is, until we weren’t. It was a great combination.

My wolf! The voice I heard was actually my wolf. I wondered who my wolf was. I hoped she wouldn’t be mad that I suppressed her all this time. It was starting to make sense that today when Zane came out, she wanted out too. He was her mate just as much as Luke was mine and she wanted to be right beside him. It also made me even more mad at my parents for abandoning me. If they hadn’t, I wouldn’t have felt like such a misfit all of the time. I would know what was happening with me, with my head.

Meghan and I talked all afternoon. We also ate so much, it was all just too good to stop. I explained everything that I had found out and she listened for maybe the first time in her life. She was excited to live somewhere new and meet the pack members.

That night we went out with Luke and Kyle. It was so much fun and not full of interrogating questions. Laura said she’d go shopping with us, which I was grateful for. I knew she had far better taste in clothes than I did and she knew the budget we would need to stick to. We finished the night out at the ice cream shop. Everyone was so nice and welcoming to us. We had never experienced that before.

We said goodnight and Luke and I went to our room. I asked Luke if I could take a bath. He smiled “of course, you can do whatever you’d like.” I grabbed my pajamas and walked into the bathroom. I stood there looking over everything. The bathroom was bright white with lights you could dim. The showers had a pad with buttons that I dare not touch as I was sure I'd flood the place. There were bath salts and a bottle of bubble bath next to each other inviting me to use them with fresh flowers next to that. I wondered if that was a regular thing or if Luke did that for me. The water was warm and I got in slowly. It was so relaxing and I promised myself never to take bubble baths for granted.

I thought of Luke being just steps away from me while I lay here naked. It was so hard to resist the temptation to invite him to enjoy this bath with me. I thought of my future here and what it included and for a moment I thought I might just be able to do this. I can study wolf packs and become the Luna I was destined to be.

After my bath, I laid on Luke’s perfectly chiseled chest listening to his heartbeat. “Can you do that weird mind link to anyone?” I asked him. He laughed “Yeah, I mean anyone in our pack.” “And how do you join your pack?” I asked. “Well, you’re either born into it or we do a ceremony to add you as a pack member,” he replied. My eyes were getting heavy now as my last question came out “Can I join your pack, Luke?” “Absolutely Kailee, I’ll start planning the ceremony in the morning”, Luke said. He was amazing.
