The atmosphere around her seemed to come to a static halt as his hands slid around her waist; the feel of his fingers against her skin made her nerves ignite in a way she desperately didn't want them to.

"Asmeria." The name seemed to glide off his tongue, his voice warm with desire. "Why are you hesitant to be close to me? Are you afraid to be near me?"

The pad of his thumb brushed against her cheek and her trembling blue eyes stared up at him, vulnerable and anxious.

"Are you afraid to touch me, Asmeria?" he asked, his hand now meeting with her shoulder as he gently slid the strap of her dress off.

"Is it that you are afraid to feel me against you?" Her dress dropped to the ground and her breath hitched as she felt his rough hands glide against her naked body.

His lips, now dangerously close to her lips, parted as he asked, "Or… are afraid to fall in love with me, Asmeria?"

A shiver ran down her spine and she felt her cheeks heat in embarrassment. Yet, she pushed him away from her, "I'm scared to love you again for the second time. I don't want to be hurt again—you're dangerous, Thorian."

"B–but, I can't seem to resist you." she looked up at him again, "I still want you, Thorian. Badly."

PROLOGUE
Life doesn't seem to get any easier for the poor, no. In fact, it seemed as though there was never any reward for their hard work. So, why did they even bother? Nevertheless, Asmeria's parents would always say as long as there was life, there was hope. So despite the fact that they lived in a rickety, nearly–dilapidated house in the heart of a secluded forest, with barely enough to feed them once per day, the couple were still hopeful that life would eventually change for them. And they held onto that belief strongly. But life doesn't have a big, shiny red 'instantly get rich’ button you can simply activate, and even if it did, Omega wolves wouldn't dare have access to it. And eighteen–year old Asmeria knew that. … It was a cold and dreary evening and the late night wind was gentle and calm – almost too calm, and that couldn't mean anything good. The kitchen was filled with the aroma of the last traces of stew simmering in a pot. Ma and Pa sat at the worn–out wooden and sad excuse for a dining table with tired eyes and heavy hearts. Asmeria looked on from the doorway, emptiness gnawing in her stomach. Tonight, the stew would run out, leaving them with nothing to eat after this meal. She stared at her parents; Ma and Pa were so emaciated and looked far older than they actually were, sorrow and suffering had erected a permanent mansion in their life. Yet, they still had hope. Hope. Asmeria hated that word with all of her life. She clenched her fists at her sides, merely thinking about it made her livid. The whole of their pack discriminated and hated them because of their omega status. Nobody wanted to associate with them, they were rarely given jobs or employment, neither where they were allowed to live where others lived, they couldn't even walk freely amongst others without getting dirty looks from the passers-by. Yet, her parents still wanted her to hope. Bullshit. “We don't deserve to live like this Ma, Pa, and we can't continue in this way.” her eyes moved to the simmering pot once more and her jaw tensed, “In fact, why are our lives filled with so many bad things? Why did we have to be the unlucky ones in the whole of this pack to be called omegas? At this point, we’re better off as stones or logs of wood, at least they don't get treated unfairly.” Ma and Pa exchanged a sympathetic glance, after all, that was all they could do. They understood her pain and deeply regretted that they couldn't give her the best life. But they had nothing else to tell the girl. What had she not heard before? What have they not told her before? Was it the reassurance that things would get better? Or to urge her to keep on praying to the Moon gods to finally favour them? These days, she threw a tantrum at least once a week and they were completely out of words to motivate her to keep hoping. Even they themselves were getting tired of hoping. The small, rundown house they called home was suffocating, and the meager light coming from a flickering candle illuminated just how poor they were. The air was heavy with the event of stale bread and desperation. Asmeria's belly growled aggressively once more and she looked down at it, clutching it with her hands as she shut her eyes. When was it going to end? "I'm tired. I'm tired of everything. Sometimes, I wish we could all just die and get it all over with, instead of living and suffering!" Her eyes welled up with tears as she yelled at her parents, her voice trembling. When her words came back to her in echoes, she realized that they may have been too harsh. She regretted them immediately, but it was the truth. What she didn't know is that those words of her traveled ahead, about to become a reality. Ma and Pa looked at her with concern, Ma was about to speak, but Asmeria had already turned away and was rushing to her room. Tears blurred her vision as she slammed her foot shut, feeling a heavy surge of helplessness and frustration overcome her, it was almost crippling. She glanced around her room, which was sparsely furnished with a shabby bed and a small wooden desk. It was a stark contrast to the life she had once imagined for herself—a life filled with adventure, love, and happiness. But as an Omega with no mate, no wolf and extremely poor, such dreams seemed out of reach. In the solitude of her room, she let her tears flow freely, mourning not just the lack of food, but the loss of hope in a life that seemed destined to be one of hardship. -:- Ma and Pa sat downstairs in silence as Asmeria stormed up to her room, the slam of her door reveberated snd seemed to shake the poor foundations of the house, startling the old couple. Ma’s hand rested on her chest as she let out a heavy sigh. The crackling of the pot behind alerted her and she tilted her head towards it, it seemed like it was about to burn. She got up on her feet and went to quickly attend to it. "It's done." She said, placing the pot before she and her husband with a weary smile. They both stared at the small portion with concern – this was barely going to be enough for one person, talk less of three. Both their minds wandered to Asmeria, the girl had gone to bed without eating and she hadn't eaten much yesterday either. If all three of them were to share the meal, Asmeria's serving would barely be enough for her. "Dear, Asmeria can't sleep on an empty stomach. We can't let her go to bed hungry." Ma reasoned, murmuring her words in sadness. Pa's eyes met with his wife's, their gazes communicated and agreed on the same thought. No words needed to be said for them to know that a sacrifice had to be made. He got up from his seat and placed a reassuring hand on his wife's shoulder, "Don't worry, we'll find something to eat tomorrow, but tonight, she should have all of it. I'll take it to her." "It's alright. But you don't have to worry yourself, I'll do it." She said, mustering up a small smile. Pa gave a nod and stepped aside, giving way for Ma to pass and go over to one of the kitchen cabinets. She took out a morsel of bread and then carried the small pot of stew, and then she made her way to Asmeria's room. She slightly hesitated when she arrived at her doorstep, but then she heaved a deep sigh and gave a soft knock. "My darling, it's Ma. You went to bed without eating, so I had to bring you some stew." Asmeria wiped her tears away as she heard her mother's voice, "Okay Ma, thank you. The door is open, you can come in." The door opened with a creak and Ma revealed herself with a small smile on her lips. She then placed the pot of stew on Asmeria's desk. Her voice broke the silence, "Asmeria, dear." She looked up at her mother, their gazes meeting. "Make do with this tonight, please. Tomorrow, your father and I are going to the Town Hall's construction site. We will labour there. Hopefully, we will be paid something, and then I'll use the money to prepare your favourite meal. Asmeria's eyes brightened at the prospect. Her favourite meal, roasted boar with mild mushroom sauce and freshly baked bread, was a rare treat they could only afford on special occasions. The thought of savoring the delicious dish made her mouth water, and a glimmer of hope shone in her eyes. "Really, Ma?" She beamed. "You'll prepare my favourite food?" Ma nodded in affirm, "Yes, my dear. So, you manage the stew tonight, and tomorrow we'll work together to create a feast fit for a princess." "Thank you, Ma. I love you and Pa, so much!" Asmeria grinned. Ma smiled wide, a laugh airing as she did so. "Your Pa and I love you too. And we will always be here for you, no matter what." Oh, the irony. With those words, Ma left the room, leaving the door slightly ajar. Asmeria sat there for a moment, clutching her tattered blanket. A small smile hinted at the edge of her lips; despite everything, she loved her parents deeply and knew they were trying their very best. She wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. Unless the world took them away from her. Which it did. Unfortunately, Ma and Pa left to work at the construction site the next morning and never returned home again. Hope? A f*****g evil bastard.
