I look through the cupboards and fridge for food. Since it is usually just me here, we don't have a lot in terms of groceries. I pull out bread, butter and cheese. Guess we are making grilled cheese, same thing I ate last night for dinner. My cooking skills are not the best but I manage. I start to prepare the grilled cheese when Davin grabs me by the hips, fire raises in my groin. He pushes me onto a chair telling me to sit and takes over making our grilled cheese.
“Can you even cook? Don't you have people for that sort of thing?” I tease him.
Davin lifted our grilled cheese from the pan and placed them on plates. “I can make a decent grilled cheese Sadie, you aren't going to die of food poisoning if that’s what you are worried about.”
“So you don't have people for that?” I raise an eyebrow at him in question.
“No! Everyone who lives at the pack house chips in one way or another. I don't cook but I could if I needed to.”
“You totally have people that cook for you!” I laugh. “What was life like growing up in the pack house?”
“Growing up around so many families you never felt bored. My best friendships were formed in that house the four of us we were inseparable. Cade, Logan, Max and I were all born relatively close together, the moms hated it we caused so many problems not my dad though he loved it we were bonding, creating something that one day would lead the pack. I've always just been groomed to be alpha never had much time to be just a teenager.”
“If you had to choose, who would you say you are closer too, like who is your BEST friend, Cade, Logan or Max?”
“Oh Logan for sure.” He says licking some ketchup off his thumb. “I mean all four of us close but Logan and I have just always got a long better. If Cade wasn't a damn good beta I would have asked Logan to step up. It's why he gets away with so much crap from me.”
The front door opens, thinking it must be James I call out that I am in the kitchen. He enters followed by Sebastian. Davin stands blocking Sebastian from seeing me in my tank top with no bra. Probably not the best time to mention he has seen me in nothing so this tank top is technically a step up.
“Go put something else on!” He growled.
Sebastian looks between us then down to the floor. So much for not being awkward around each other. I head upstairs in search of something to throw over my tank. No way in hell am I putting a bra back on. I return to the kitchen wearing an old sweater of James but pause at the bottom the stairs. I can hear them talking.
“Don't worry we will stay downstairs just in need of some guy time.” James reassures Davin. I hear Davin's snarl and quickly make my way to him. I lean into his side. His body relaxes against mine. James mind links me “Alpha. Nice!” I try hard to hide my smile.
After clearing our plates Davin goes to the couch sitting and pulling me onto his lap. I switch the television on, turning it to any random channel. Who can focus on television while sitting in the lap of this man? I tease him placing small kisses on his neck up, his jaw, nipping at his ears. His hands grip my waist. I wiggle shifting in his lap rolling my hips over the thing I crave most. He goes still. His face gone blank. It's a look I know. The look that means he's leaving.
“I am so sorry Sadie, I have to go!”
I walk with him to the door, he places a small kiss on my lips and leaves. I miss him as soon as the door shuts behind him. I am on the verge of tears. Can you really cry over a man you’ve spent less than 24 hours with? My heart says that I can. Is this what it will feel like every time he leaves? We haven't even fully mated and yet I feel hollow without him.
Davin's POV:
It takes all of my strength to leave Sadie. My jeans feel like they might explode from how tight they have become. Sitting her in my lap probably wasn’t the smartest move on my part but I just wanted her as close to me as I could get her. Not like her in my lap is the cause of this; just breathing the same air as her causes my d**k to throb.
I was in my own personal heaven and hell as she placed kisses along my neck. Teasing me. Her lips sent jolts of pleasure right down to my already hard d**k making it pulse. I grip the steering wheel of my black Audi turning my knuckles white. f*****g Cade had to ruin it.
He mind linked that there was a breech. Two rogues got in through the pack border. They caught one a female. I had to leave it was my duty as alpha. As much as it killed me to walk away from Sadie, beautiful downright sexy Sadie, somehow I did.
I pull my car into the driveway of the brown brick pack house. Ten families live here with room to spare so it’s quite a large house that sits on at least a hundred acres with a border along the tree line. I park and run inside heading to my office. Cade my beta and Logan my third are already waiting inside for me.
When I took over as alpha at sixteen I had no clue what I was doing I made a lot of mistakes. The decision of asking Cade and at the time fifteen year old Logan to step up and stand beside me is one I never regret. Usually your parents pass on the role to you when they decide to step down, my father and his beta did but Logan’s father wasn’t sure, Logan was still three months out to his sixteenth birthday and his father feared he was just not ready for that type of commitment or power yet. He proves he was and more every day.
“Nice of you to show up.” Logan says with a stupid smirk, I’d like to wipe off his face.
“What do we got?” I ask ignoring him as I shred my jacket and throwing it on my chair.
“The guards caught her just inside the north border. Davin, we believe she is one of his.” Logan said.
At the mention of him my body goes cold.
“I put her in a cell but thought best to wait for you to question her. We tried to hunt the other but we lost him, we aren’t sure if he is still on land.” Cade explains.
“YOU LOST HIM? How does a team of trained wolves lose one rogue?”
“Alpha, he is skilled. Has some form of training. It’s almost like he knew exactly what to do, where to go. We believe she might have just been a distraction for him. He was looking for something.”
Of course he knew where to go. Their “alpha” knew this territory like the back of his hand. It’s been a year since I’ve even thought of him; not since the day he told me I was dead to him and he left. So what is he planning?
“Send a team out, have Will run point. I want this land searched! Anything he finds comes back to me immediately.” I order. “Now shall we go see what our rogue has to say?”
The cells sit on the far side of the property closest to the guard tower. In total we have ten cells not that we ever fill them but you never know when the situation may arise.
Inside the first cell a small woman around mid-twenties sits on the floor her knees brought to her chest. You can practically see her bones through her skin, her clothes are ripped and worn out. Her brown hair rests unwashed on her shoulders. She produces a foul odor.
She stands as we approach the bars, rushing to make her case. “Alpha. I mean no harm. I was just on a run.”
“Please, then why enter pack territory? Do you have a death wish?” I snap.
She doesn’t jump, not even a flinch. She’s completely unaffected by my harsh tone. Rogues don’t care for authority. I see right through her. I am no alpha to her.
“I got lost, didn’t realize I was so close to your pack until your men ambushed me” she argues.
“AMBUSHED YOU! YOU ENTERED MY LAND!!” I shout. “You didn’t come alone though did you, you brought a friend. Who is he? What is he looking for?”
“I brought no one. If someone else is here they came alone.”
“We will find whoever it is and we will kill him on sight.”
Her eyes widen. Fists clench.
“Ah… so you do know him.”
“I was on a run. I came alone.” Her voice is becoming a bit more frantic, she speaks a bit quicker. She tries to hide the look of horror on her face.
“I don’t believe you. You know something. NOW WHERE IS HE??”
Her face blanks out, she can mind link with him. Then she laughs. She actually f*****g laughs at me. “You will never find him and I will tell you nothing.” She spits in my face.
“Kill her! Leave her body in the woods close to where they entered. Her friend will find her.” She laughs again clearly unafraid of me. She should be.
I’ve prided myself in only using violence when necessary. She isn’t going to talk so she is no use to me. Killing her is the only solution. It sends a message not only to other rogues but to him! I want them to feel afraid. They can’t come onto my land and there be no consequences. I am not a weak alpha.
Will returns with nothing. His team picked up the other ones scent just north where this one was captured. They hunted but found no permanent trail. He was smart, ran off in multiple directions to confuse us. They are certain he is no longer on pack land though.
After we dispose of the rogue’s body just outside the pack borders, I head to my room exhausted. Crawling into bed does nothing to relax me. Ever since finding Sadie I hate my room. I don’t smell her. I don’t get to hold her as we fall asleep. Feel her body shiver as I touch her skin. f**k this. I grab my keys and leave.
Sadie’s POV
I crawl back into bed, hugging the covers tightly around my body. It doesn’t feel the same, they aren’t Davin’s arms. I toss and turn in bed for hours. I can’t sleep. I miss him. I don’t even know what he is doing. Where he went. If he is okay. We aren’t connected that way yet. I can’t stop the tears as they fall from my eyes. I curl into a ball. I don’t even hear my door creak open until Sebastian comes into view sitting on the floor beside my bed.
“Sadie? Sadie are you okay?”
I peek my head up to look at him. His face blurry through my tears. I can see the worry on his face. I never was a pretty crier. My skin gets all red and blotchy and I can feel how puffy my eyes are. They burn. He reaches up to wipe away a tear that has rolled down my cheek but stops dropping his hand to his lap.
“I don’t know the rules here Sadie.” He looks to the floor. “I am trying to be here for you but I’d also like to keep my limbs intact. I can’t play football with no arms or legs.” He jokes.
I can tell he is trying to make light of the situation. To make me laugh and brighten my mood. A small laugh escapes through my tears. “I don’t know the rules either plus it would be a shame to have your limbs ripped apart.” I joke wiping my tears and forcing a smile.
“I am still here for you, and alpha or not I will kill him if he did this to you!”
I shake my head. “I just didn’t expect to feel so much! I hate that I feel this way. But I think I love him, sorry if that is the last thing you want to hear but I do. I know he is the alpha and he has a duty to this pack but he left and I don’t know where or if he is okay and I miss him.” My tears return. I begin sobbing.
“Aww Sadie!” He reaches up. Pulling me into is arms. I bury my head in his chest and I just continue to cry.
“Sadie please don’t cry! Should I get Lucy? Tell me what to do?”
I shake my head. I’m sure I look like a mess. I can feel his shirt getting wet from what I pray is my tears and not snot from my nose. I can’t stop. My heart hurts. Sebastian rubs my back telling me it will be okay. How does he know? Did he recently get a mate and now completely understands the pain I am in? We can’t be mad at him Sadie, he’s comforting us. Great now my wolf is chiming in on my feelings. Go away.
I’m unsure of how long we sit there, but my tears have stopped. I think I have mostly cried myself out. I know its late my window reveals a pitch black sky not even the moon is shining light out there. My eyes hurt. I should try to sleep. I look up to see Sebastian staring down at me.
“How you feeling?” he asks. I shrug my shoulders. His shirt is soaked. Oh god. I cover my eyes.
“It’s okay!” he says pulling them from my face. “I think it makes me look tough.” He smiles at me. Sebastian smiles doesn’t do anything for me anymore. My body doesn’t respond the way it used to.
“I think it makes you look sweaty and disgusting. That’s just my opinion though.” I laugh a full body laugh and smack him in the shoulder.
“GET THE f**k AWAY FROM MY MATE!!!” Davin stands in my doorway looking furious as he takes in the sight of me sitting with Sebastian, his arms wrapped around me.
“Davin! Please wait!” I quickly stand. My hands reach for him but he pulls away. His eyes turn black zeroing in on Sebastian.
“YOU DON’T GET TO TOUCH HER!!!” he roars.
His hands grab Sebastian. Sebastian’s feet leave the floor as Davin throws him through my doorway. Glass smashing as picture frames that once decorated the wall fall to ground. James comes out of his room wearing nothing but boxers. His eyes widen as he takes in the sight of Davin throwing his friend around and my tear stained face.
“Alpha, I swear nothing happened.” He dodges a punch.
Davin pushes knocking him off his feet and sending him down the stairs. I smell blood. Sebastian’s blood. “DAVIN STOP!! YOU’RE GOING TO KILL HIM!!” Davin doesn’t stop.
