To end a Love who's not really there...
MONICA'S POV Today is very tiring as well. I had to work overtime just to impress my god damn boss. I hope he approves my 2 days leave soon. Standing in front of my door, I suddenly got a bad feeling. “Why is my door open?” I asked myself. Did Mrs. . Aurora leaves the door unlocked again? I just have a small unit in this third-floor apartment with only a few pieces of furniture like a couch with side tables, a coffee table, and a small television. There was nothing valuable in here so how come my door is open? I walk to the other door but hear a loud sound of television coming from Mrs. Aurora's place. She's an elderly woman and also my neighbour. She's kind but often forgets things so maybe she left this unlocked after visiting my cat, Mica. She's very nice, that's why when she offered some help to take care of my cat, I gave her my spare key. Though, I may have to ask her to give it back if this happens again. I shrug and just enter my apartment. “Mica? Mommy is here, come here, baby.” Soon a snowy white cat ran towards me and rubbed herself furiously against my legs. I picked her up and was about to give her a kiss when a voice came right behind us. “Sure, the cat gets all the love.” I froze. I know that voice. I slowly turn around only to see Gavin sitting on the couch. His blonde hair spilled messily on his forehead and his blue eyes were bloodshot. He's drunk, again. And yeah, he's my boyfriend. “Gavin,” I said quietly. “What are you doing here?” “Waiting for you. Since you took your sweet time getting home, I got a little curious.” He raisd a brown leather journal. My eyes get wide as he waves it in the air like he owns it. That's my diary! “Very interesting reading.” He says. “How dare you! That's private!” I stand and put Mica to the floor to grab my journal but still very careful not to damage it. “I can see why. Troy this, Troy that.” Shit, he really did read my journal. I have always kept this journal since I was fourteen. But how did he find my journal? “Did you dig my closet?” He just shrugs and opens the book. “I especially like this entry.” He read: Troy and I fell asleep while watching the stars. When we woke up it was two am. The boy was angry with mom and dad. They grounded me until the end of the school. I know they hate Troy, but that just isn't fair. I'm so furious. I didn't know that I could be this mad towards him. First he lost his job that I worked so hard to give him. Second, he entered my apartment without my permission and he's holding my journal. “Give me that,” I demanded, advancing myself to Gavin. I tried to reach for it but his long arms held it out. “So all this good-girl stuff you've handed me is a load of crap. You put out for this Troy guy, but you won't with me.” “It's not crap. Nor is it any of your business.” “I say it is.” Gavin grabbed my arm and jerked me down to his lap. “You've been telling me ‘no’ for months now. Know what? I'm tired of it.” Knowing what he meant, I tried to detach myself from him but couldn't, he's way too strong for me to handle. “Let me go!” “Give me a kiss,” he said, trying to get closer to my face. “No! Let me go or I'll start screaming.” I tried to push him away as I smell the stale alcohol puffed from his breath and pores. He sneered. “Who's going to hear you ha?” “The neighbours.” “That old bat next door is almost as dead as a stump. Come on, baby, just give me a kiss.” Gavin once again pushed himself on me, he cupped my breasts with his hands and pinched my n****e through my dress. Stuck on his lap, I don't know what to do. I can't push him with this state but I must stop him. Then I clamped down his lips with my teeth. “Damn!” Gavin protested, pulling his head away and rubbing his lips where I bit him. I took that as an advantage to jump off his lap. I grabbed the lamp on the side table of the couch, I didn't mind that our pictures shattered to the ground. What matters is how I'm going to control myself from wanting to hit him with this lamp. I'm breathing hard but that doesn't stop me. “Get out!” Gavin glares at me. “b***h. We're through.” “Go on. And I'm not going to say this twice. Get. Out. Now.” He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand as he stands up. “I see how it is. You can slut around with this Troy guy, but your boyfriend is another matter. You're just a c**k teaser.” “Correction, ex-boyfriend. Get out now! And don't bother to come back or I'll call the police.” Gavin looked at me completely shocked by my new whole reaction. I wouldn't be like this if he didn't touch my journal. I can be kind to him but touching my journal is another matter. As the door slammed I knew that he's gone. I put back the lamp on the table. My eyes start to cry. I always thought that Gavin was a good guy until he lost his job. He became jealous and possessive and controlling. I'm afraid of that. A soft knock sounded on the door. I roll my eyes. If it's still him I will surely hit him with this lamp now. I don't wanna hear his insincere apologies. “Who's there?” “It's Mrs. Aurora.” I open the door. It's indeed Mrs. Aurora, she’s seventy three, very thin and her hair is in a bun top. She usually wears dresses but she always wears a full apron. “Is everything okay, dear?” she asked. “I heard you shouting.” “Gavin and I broke up.” “Oh, I'm sorry, sweetie.” “I’m not.” She looks at me as if she's ready to cry. “But I let him in. He said he wanted to surprise you.” “Well, from now on he's not allowed in my apartment.” I sighed and forced myself to smile at her at least. After all, it wasn't her fault. “Is Mica okay?” “She's fine. You can come inside if you want.” “No need dear.” She replied. “I see you need some time alone now. I'll see her tomorrow.” “Thank you, Mrs. Aurora. See you tomorrow.” Mrs. Aurora closed the door softly, leaving me still standing in front of my door. Mica walks toward me before jumping on my clothes. I pick her up and let both of us sit on the couch. I stroke her hair as I close my eyes. I feel sad. Not because Gavin and I broke up. He never had my heart. And that was the problem. In a way, I couldn't blame him for being angry with me. I always kept him, and If I'm honest, every man at arms length. No one has locked my heart except that man… Troy. Troy is my first puppy love, first boyfriend and first kiss. We promised to get married until my parents shattered that dream and also my heart.
