I was left alone in my shop and it wasn't silence Kade left with me to think about. It was a threat.
Faustina...
She never mentioned about getting hired in Levanti Motors company. I wasn't against it, knowing that such an opportunity was a good chance for her to expand her horizon.
However... Faustina had just become Kade's leverage against me. He was well aware how I greatly treasure Faustina. Knowing him, he was a man of his words.
My hands clenched. I could feel my nails digging into my palm. Damn it... It took me several minutes to calm and collect myself before driving back to my new home.
I thought all I needed to worry about was the compensation of my parents' properties. But why must I need to be involved with Kade again?
That night, I didn't pack my things to go to Valtemort City. Why would I go back to the very place that witnessed how I was wrongly accused? People didn't forget that issue. Three years may had passed, but people just wouldn't forget about it.
Just thinking about how they would point fingers at me and curse at me... It scared me. Back then, I was unable to defend myself as I was already here in Georgia when the news spread like wildfire in the city.
Now... I wasn't even confident enough if I could defend myself.
My thoughts stopped me from getting any decent sleep. Hence, I was still wide awake even though it was five in the morning. I could only drag myself to the kitchen to make a simple breakfast.
Before I could even take a bite of my toasted bread, a knock interrupted me. My eyes darted at the clock.
5:30 AM.
Who could be here at such an hour? I took careful steps behind me, grabbing the nearest knife.
Another three knocks resounded in the room. I slowly approached the window where I could see whoever was at the other side of the door.
"Reyna..."
I froze.
Kade. Again.
Out of instinct, I covered my mouth and didn't make a move. This man... How could he come here at such an early hour?
"Reyna. Open the door. I know you're awake," he added.
I still remained quiet. From the window, I could see his silhouette. He reached something from his coat, which looked like his phone.
"David, go to the HR manager upon clocking in today. Tell her to replace the newly hired–"
"What do you want?" I cut him off after opening the door.
He didn't even try to hide the mirth in his eyes as he put his phone back in his pocket. Without permission, he shamelessly stepped inside the house despite seeing the knife in my hand.
I turned.
Kade looked around, examining the place with careful eyes.
"Where's your luggage?" he asked without even sparing me a glance.
"I am not going back to Valtemort," I replied.
This time, he faced me. A small smile tugged at his lips as he approached me.
"Shouldn't you be excited to go back there now that Faustina will soon be working in that city, too?" He bent a little just to draw closer. "Not to mention, I might just give you your desired compensation for the house and land."
"You..."
He raised his hand and clipped a few strands of white hair behind my ear. I glared at him before slapping his hand away.
"Fine. I will go back to Valtemort with you." I looked him straight in the eyes. "On three conditions."
Kade chuckled.
"I'm serious!"
He nodded as he sat back on the couch. My brows almost met at the center of forehead when Kade took out a lighter and a cigarette. Didn't he already quit smoking when we were together?
"Fine. Let's hear those three conditions." His gaze landed on my hand. "But after you drop the knife."
I simply left it on the table before standing across from him.
"First, I want fair compensation of the land that your company took from me."
Kade puffed out the cigarette smoke as he nodded his head a little.
"I will do that after you are done with the project I will give you," he commented.
"Second, our divorce should be finalized before I return here. After what happened three years ago, we just parted ways without even legalizing our divorce."
He met my gaze while wearing an unreadable expression. It was hard to tell if he was relieved, happy, or what. But it was immediately replaced with a smug look. The cigarette on his hand made another contact with his lips before giving me the signal to continue speaking.
"Third, reopen and reinvestigate my case."
A beat of silence came after I said my third condition. Kade shifted his gaze at me, puffing out that annoying cigarette smoke. A slow and small smile tugged at the edge of his lips.
"That case is already resolved. You should be thankful that you weren't imprisoned for that—"
"I want my name cleared so you would stop pestering me for something I did not even do."
This time, Kade stood and walked towards my direction.
"Fine. But if it's proven that you are not innocent as you claimed to be, what's in it for me?"
I stared daggers at him, but he merely lifted my chin to look up to him.
"Once it's proven again that you're guilty, you shall be at my beck and call until I am satisfied. Is that a deal?"
"Deal."
I slapped his hand away from me before rushing towards my bedroom with clenched fists. If only I knew it would come to this, I should have completely cut ties with him three years ago. If only I had the money back then... If only I did not hope that Kade would come and take me back, then I could have been living peacefully today.
My vision blurred as I shoved my clothes into my luggage. The frustration that I couldn't tell anyone just turned into tears.
After packing up, I dragged my luggage out where Kade was already waiting near his car. He took my things and placed them in the backseat, where his other belongings were. Hence, there was no room for me aside from the seat next to him.
Kade did not bother to fix the backseat, and he just headed right to the driver's seat.
This guy... When did he become such an intolerable person?
Beep!
I flinched when he suddenly honked. The window at the passenger's seat rolled down, showing that he was already glaring at me.
"What? Are you going to come in or you can take a seat at the hood of the car?"
I rolled my eyes and opened the car door. I did not spare him a glance or even spoke another word the moment we made our way back to Valtemort City.
Staring out of the window and watching the town of Georgia slowly fade into sight, my grip at the seatbelt tightened.
I just knew Valtemort City won't be as kind to me as before.
