Kade didn't move for a few seconds after I slapped him. I wasn't sure if it was the look of surprise or anger that crossed his expression in a quick second before he fully turned to me with a grin.
"What was that for?" he asked, his voice low mixed with amusement and annoyance.
"We never had an agreement about you taking me here and announcing back to the elite world that I have returned to the city!" My voice raised. "You have no right to do this to me!"
"Reyna, it seems like it keeps slipping out of your mind that you're still my wife legal—"
"I stopped being your wife when you chose to drive me out three years ago!" I cut him off, tears finally staining my cheeks.
A lot of thoughts crowded in my minded, wanting to be voiced out. However, I noticed some lingering people around us. My mouth shut before I got inside the car and wiped away the stray tears.
Kade occupied the driver's seat afterwards. He turned on the engine and drove with only tension hanging between us. I thought we were on our way to the Levanti Motors main office, however, the familiar neighborhood came into sight.
"Why are we here?" I asked.
"It's more secure for you to stay at home while you work on the project," he replied without sparing me a glance.
After parking the car, he just got out and brought my luggage inside. I merely followed him behind despite wanting to protest because I did not really want to stay in this house since it only reminded me how our marriage fell apart.
"Your car is parked in the garage. You can start working on the art project whenever you want to," he said. "Choose any room that you want and if there is anything else you want, just call me."
No words came from me, but it seemed like he already expected it since he just turned his back on me and was headed back to the main door. He then stopped for a while without looking back.
"You have the whole house all by yourself," he added before leaving.
I had no idea how long I just stood in the living room. Three years had already passed and yet... Everything looked exactly the same way I left it before. It felt like that our falling out just happened yesterday.
Wait...
I shook my head. This shouldn't be something to think about. Kade and I were long done. I dragged my luggage towards the guestroom and found it still the same as before. What only changed was the curtains. They used to be light blue, but they were beige now.
It took me about fifteen minutes to unpack before heading to the kitchen. The moment I opened the refrigerator for a bottle of cold water, my jaw dropped.
It was almost close to empty. There were only five bottled water inside, making me question if a human being truly occupied this house. Either way... I needed to fill it with my stocks since I would be here for a few weeks.
Letting out a sigh, I called Faustina. If what Kade said was true, then Faustina would be starting her work in Levanti Motors just a few days from now.
After a few rings, she finally answered.
"Where are you?" she immediately asked. "Your shop is closed and even your new place is locked. No one kidnapped you, right?"
A small smile tugged at my lips.
"Sorry, I did not tell you sooner that I am back in Valtemort," I replied.
A long minute of silence went by. I had to check my phone just to confirm that the line was still connected.
"Faustina?"
There was no reply.
"It happened so suddenly so it's an unplanned trip. I have an art project and I think it will be completed maybe after a month and a few weeks." My gaze landed on the clock. "By the way, Kade said that you can start work on the first day of next month."
"Reyna... I..." Her voice was soft and I could feel the guilt laced in it. "I'm sorry. I did not tell you about that."
"Faustina... It's not a big deal. Besides, it's not every day that an opportunity like this comes by. Want to meet up soon?"
"Of course! Though I have to rely on you because I am not familiar with Valtemort. It would be my first living in such a big city."
After our brief conversation, I headed back to the guestroom to rest as the fatigue from the trip was finally catching up. The next morning, Kade was nowhere to be found. There was not even a hint if he came back home yesterday or not. Maybe he was keeping his word about letting me have the house.
After getting everything ready to draft the art project, I heard some commotion outside. Someone's voice was raised, clearly angry at something. I was not one to snoop into other people's business, but the area was a private place so no one would be able to get in and out so freely. My feet brought me to the main gate where I saw Blaire.
"I said let go of me! I am Kade's fiancee so I have the right to enter his house!" she claimed as she freed herself from the touches of two guards.
Blaire was a woman with great confidence and conviction, honed by her experience as a successful model internationally. That was why it would not be a surprise if she was indeed Kade's fiancee. Her success and undeniable gorgeous genes were something Valentina looked for in an ideal daughter-in-law.
I was about to head back inside the house, when my name was called.
"You really have the audacity to come back here, Reyna," she snarled despite being intercepted from taking another step closer to the house. "Let me in. Let's talk. Woman to woman."
Knowing her as someone who would stop at nothing until she gets what she wants, I could only nod. My gaze shifted to the two guards and told them to let Blaire inside. Only then did they stepped aside.
Blaire rolled her eyes and strutted her way inside the house. Seeing how she seemed to know the layout of the house, I could only think that she had been visiting Kade after I left.
She sat on the couch comfortably before setting her gaze on me.
"You disappeared for three long years, Reyna. Why are you suddenly back? Is it because you spent all that billion dollars you have stolen?" She scoffed. "How much do you want so you can vanish without a trace like before?"
"Kade insisted that I handle an art project. After I complete it, I will be leaving," I replied.
Blaire smiled, but it clearly wasn't because she was happy about my answer.
"Art project..." she muttered. She stood and walked towards me.
Her piercing gaze didn't leave me even though I was not looking her way. I just did not want to escalate things. A groan left my lips the moment she gripped at my jaw and forced me to look her in the eyes.
Her icy blue eyes sent a shiver down my spine.
"Divorce him, Reyna. I will even pay you to do it. Stop holding him back from settling with a happy family," she said, her voice sharp and firm. "Just name your price."
I forced her to let go of me.
“How much can you offer?" I asked, which made her eyes grow wide for a few seconds.
Then, a laugh came from her as if she was in disbelief that I even asked that question.
"One hundred thousand dollars. I will give it to you the moment your divorce finalizes."
“Fine."
