Chapter 4

Reyna Clave’s POV I cannot help but feel like fate was making a fool out of me. Out of all the companies trying to buy out the only house and land that my mother left me, it had to be the company that Kade managed? Remembering him alone brought back the memories from three years ago. As much as I hated to admit it, I hadn't recovered fully from that. I took a deep breath. It had been years since I last encountered something directly related to Kade. But then again, it was not like he would be coming here in person so it should not be that big of a deal. My gaze landed on the amount. A small crease on my forehead formed. “$200,000?” I questioned as I met Gabrielle’s gaze. “Yes, for the land,” she replied. “That is not enough,” I insisted. “You can build a pretty decent home with that amount, especially that you do not have a family.” She smiled, a fake one I could tell. “You can sign at the second page, Miss Clave.” “I refuse. Whether I have a family or not is irrelevant to the amount you are offering. ” I handed them the documents. “If you are going to just look down on me… Please see yourselves out of my shop.” The two of them exchanged glances, clearly displeased with my decision. However, my decision was firm and I would not accept $200,000 in exchange for the property that my mother took care of until she breathed her last breath. That amount would only be enough to buy a small piece of land that was not even the same size as the land that they were buying from me. And $200,000 to build a house? It may be possible if it was a small house, but where was I supposed to build that house if I don't buy the land first? “Miss Clave, maybe I should reiterate to you that this is a million-dollar project. The warehouse that is to be built in this town will be a regional distribution center of Levanti Motors products,” Gabrielle stated, her tone of voice stern as if giving me a warning. “Seeing that it is the Levanti Motors, then shouldn’t the company offer a fair compensation for just a small portion of land?” “Miss Clave–” “Please, leave my shop now,” I cut off the attorney without a second thought. Gabrielle let out a sigh before flashing another fake smile towards me. She stood from her seat while the attorney fixed his briefcase. “Think things over, Miss Clave. We will come back after a few days,” the attorney stated before they finally left. My gaze remained at the door where they disappeared. They won’t stop pestering me until I give in to their demands. I certainly understood that they needed that piece of land to continue with the building of the warehouse, but must they really lowball their offer? THIRD PERSON POV In Valtemort City, the headquarters of the Levanti Motors were in a rush to fix several documents needed for the upcoming meeting with the CEO, Kade Storm. They were not expecting him to be present in that meeting, however, it was reported last minute that Kade just came back from his business trip overseas and was immediately heading back to the company. Hence, the tension in the air doubled, most especially when Kade finally entered the lobby. Everyone was on high alert as if one mistake would cost them their lives. Even their breaths seemed controlled upon noticing the slight frown from Kade as he entered the elevator. Meanwhile, one of the attendees of the said meeting that day received a call from one of the company attorneys. He immediately answered as he felt like it was an urgent matter. “What do you mean we cannot proceed with the groundbreaking on the assigned date?” he asked, his tone laced with immediate annoyance. He listened to what the attorney had said and not long after, a scoff left his mouth. “Unfair compensation? How is $200,000 an unfair compensation when it's just a tiny piece of land?” His voice raised a little higher. “We explained everything to her but she is adamant on paying her higher than what we are offering,” the attorney responded. The man clicked his tongue. If this matter was dragged on too long, the progress of the warehouse would surely be slowed down. He didn't want that. “Send me her details…” Just as he was about to speak again, he froze when a familiar voice came from behind that he instinctively dropped the call. “What problem did you run into, Mr. Philip?” Kade questioned. He stood next to him, clearly expecting an answer. Of course, Mr. Philip would not dare mention the slight problem since it was something he could handle. Hence, it was not worth mentioning to the CEO. He faked a smile. “Sir Kade, it's nothing worth your attention. I congratulate you for another successful business trip,” Mr. Philip replied, extending his hand towards him. Kade did not shake his hand. Instead, his piercing ocean green eyes were cold enough to freeze Mr. Philip in place. It only meant that he wanted to know what the call was about. He let out a nervous laugh. “I… I actually just received a call from Attorney Jackson Hagues. He said that one of the homeowners in Georgia refuses to sell her land. If she still won't sign until tomorrow, the groundbreaking ceremony will surely be postponed.” Just before Kade could speak, Mr. Philip’s phone received a notification. He wanted to ignore it since he was speaking with the CEO, but with the way he was receiving a warning look from him, he immediately fished out his phone from his pocket. It was from Attorney Jackson. He sent a file, most likely the details Philip asked for just a few minutes ago. Philip opened the file and the very first thing that came into view was Reyna’s picture and just next to it was her maiden name, Reyna Clave. Upon seeing her picture, Kade slightly scoffed. “Is she the one refusing to sell her land?” Kade questioned with a hint of amusement in his voice. “Yes.” “Just offer her a million dollars and she will agree in a snap.” “A… A million dollars? I-Isn’t that too much, sir?” Philip blinked a few times, wondering if he had heard the CEO wrong. “That woman can only be pleased with money. Give it to her so the groundbreaking ceremony won't be unnecessarily postponed.” Kade started to walk away, hand in his pocket. “Come to my office after the meeting to get the check.” Philip can only watch the CEO leave. No matter how he thought about it, he could not think of the reason why he would personally write a check to give to a woman he did not even know. Not to mention, a million dollars was overcompensating that woman. His gaze returned to the picture of Reyna Clave. “It's also impossible for him to fall in love at first sight for a face like this. She may be pretty, but not as pretty as those models running after him,” he muttered to himself. The meeting proceeded as scheduled, presenting to Kade the current progress and future goals for the warehouse to be built in Georgia. It was actually going well and if there were no unexpected problems, the project would be completed within two years just as planned. Kade stared at the date of the groundbreaking ceremony. It was just two weeks away so he signaled his assistant to approach him. “Do you need anything, sir?” David asked in almost a whisper. “Clear my schedule for the groundbreaking ceremony. I will be attending,” he said without sparing him a glance. David froze for a few moments, blinking and doubting himself if he had heard it wrong. But when he did not move away, Kade raised an eyebrow at him. This brought the assistant back to his senses. “Right away, sir,” he responded before focusing on his tablet to clear out the original schedule of the CEO. As much as he wanted to know why Kade suddenly wanted to attend the ceremony even though it was not necessary, he knew better than anyone else not to question his boss’s decisions unless he asked for his opinion. After the meeting, Philip headed to Kade’s office just as he was instructed to do before. However, instead of a check, the CEO handed him a sealed letter. “Give this to Reyna Clave.” He gave Philip a stern and cold gaze. “Only she has the authority to open it.”
